I’ve done a little bit of reading in this area, but I was always curious how much credit Chinggis Khan as a figure is given by the academic community.
I know that the (sparse) historical sources paint him as a driving force behind the growth of the Mongolian empire, but I’m sure the posthumous lionisation makes it difficult to clearly assess.
I was curious to learn what other factors were at play, and how much his own policies (decimalisation, unification of the nomadic tribes, recruiting experts from conquered nations) can be pointed to as evidence
