Depends on circumstances. If someone had to bring an older child with them because it's necessary then it's reasonable.

At a relatively normal 10K miles per year you're probably looking at spending £3K on fuel which is 70% of what your loan payment is.

Realistically your monthly running cost is going to be closer to £700 before depreciation

After 5 years and 50K miles (so guessing around 80K) it's going to be worth around £18K. Which we can approximate to £150/month.

I think overall the total running cost is around £850-950/month which makes it a poor choice

When we were having our house built there were two main methods trades used once we needed to keep the inside of the house clean. The tilers, painters, floor guys all had indoor shoes which tended to be crocs or similar. They were spending their time inside. The guys who were coming in and out of the house would put down covering from the door through to where they were working.

Chain restaurants are uniformly crap in every country I've been to, it's not a UK thing.

The appeal of chain restaurants is nothing to do with the quality of the food, it's about a consistent experience. When people eat in a chain restaurant they know they're going to get a similar experience, quality of food and level of service as they've had previously. They know the menu will have been tweaked with focus groups to appeal to the largest number of people and can be confident that if they like that style of food them almost everything on the menu will be to their taste.

No one is going to a chain restaurant for good food. They're going for food which they will consider to be better than they could reheat at home and a pleasant dining experience.

They have economies of scale which independent restaurants don't due to more locations and generally more covers. Outfitting a kitchen for a 40 cover independent vs a 140 cover chain isn't vastly different. Managing payroll etc. becomes significantly cheaper per person once you have many employees.

Independents run on lower margins, are far more affected by negative reviews and rely more on word of mouth and passing trade (which is harder as they can't afford prime locations nor advertising).

For most people if they're putting the Office365 suite on your phone then you should be provided with a work phone as most company policies enrol your phone into their estate and allow for remote wiping.

My child when he was four was a pretty good walker, but realistically around 10-12km would be his limit for a day in hilly terrain and he'd be asleep early. I can't imagine what he'd be like on days 2 thru 12.

A few months ago when he was 5 we did an out and back of 8K and 700m climb. He made it, but at the top he ate six pastries and as soon as we got home he fell asleep on the sofa.

My youngest is very different in the playground to her brother at the same age. I'd she's at the top of the slide and there's another child coming up she clearly says to them "wait, boy" and in other places "hey, hey, hey - careful"

The competition she has from her sibling along with our encouragement to robustly assert her position helps her

Step back and not interfere. A big bin of duplo/lego/blocks is a free for all. You take what you need and if another child has a part you need you negotiate with them or change your plan.

This is a vital part of children learning to deal with conflict between themselves. Children need to learn to advocate for themselves "hey, that's my block", call on other children for support "you're not being fair" and compromise "OK, you build the fire station, I build the truck"
