I mean… with the exception of roughly 97-‘03 or so, that’s Bob for the last 30-35 years.

This is my recommendation for anyone “just getting into 1971.” In fact, it’s a top rec for anyone “just getting into the Dead.”

We were there the last 3 days. Zero action going on there. No work whatsoever. I’ve started calling it the Hood Ornament. Looks neat, but ultimately it’s completely useless.

When I realized our new car we bought last year didn’t have a CD player, it was like a death in the family.

You could go watch the Fabulous Mint 400. In some circles, the “Mint 400” is a far, far better thing than the Super Bowl, the Kentucky Derby and the Lower Oakland Roller Derby Finals all rolled into one.

It's the richest off-the-road race for motorcycles and dune-buggies in the history of organized sport - a fantastic spectacle in honor of some fatback grossero named Del Webb, who owns the luxurious Mint Hotel in the heart of downtown Las Vegas

All of 74 (and 73 especially fall and on) is absolute Peak Dead to me. I love it all of course, but holy shit. I wish they’d never taken that break.

Hah when I think of Brent I say “his vocals, yeah… but that B3! It cuts!” 🤷‍♂️

Try the first Mahavishnu albums (inner mounting flame, birds of fire, lost trident sessions, skip Apocalypse, and pick back up with visions of the emerald beyond). Not a hell of a lot in common with the dead, but if horns aren’t really your thing, give this a try. It’s radically aggressive for the era. For any era really. Especially the first 3 albums. Inner mounting flame is a little more raw, kind of the prototype for birds of fire.

Dig into some live Jerry from the early/mid 70s like with Merl Saunders.

That’s why fuel was so cheap during the later Trump era in the run up to and during the pandemic. They drilled and produced too much. So there was a constant glut of oil. Before the pandemic it was bad, but during there was a period of time where the price of oil per barrel was NEGATIVE. Oil companies were paying for people to take it off their hands. It goes bad relatively quick. They can’t just shut off the rigs overnight. They’ll never make that mistake again, rest assured.

I am serious. And don’t call me Searly.

Yeah it didn’t last long. It’s an instant directional pointer when I hear a track and don’t know the year (like the dead.net November name that year/venue thing) to say well, this is almost certainly late 79 or 80.

Face Stealers. Keep your distance. They probably have a whole trunk of faces in there somewhere.
