Diving Mask in Pools

I’m trying to decide if I should “invest” in prescription diving masks (like the Promate mask recommended in some posts) for an upcoming beach trip. I did a search for wearing diving masks in indoor pools but the top links are all warnings against wearing full snorkeling masks which isn’t the kind that I’m considering.

Just wondering if I can stretch the use of these prescription masks to more common uses or if they are strictly for snorkeling/diving.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello. I hope this is an okay place to post this question as I couldn't find another subreddit or megathread catering to visitor questions, and I didn't want to create a top-level post lest it distracts from other more on-topic discussions.

In short, I love Irwin mangoes but live in the NE where mangos found in supermarkets tend to be anemic/unripe. I would love to take a mango-eating trip this summer to Florida but I am not entirely sure where I'd go to ensure the best supply, and/or if there's an especially good week to visit in June or July if my priority is stuffing my face (with mangoes).

Thanks in advance!

I'll let others comment on possible routing options as there are many (most of which require a stop in Seoul, Tokyo, HK, or Taipei but you may already be too late for some airlines if you aren't looking to book T-14--I normally look around the first week of February for travel around the end of January for the following year), but I just want to highlight that... LNY falls on January 29 in 2025, so if your schedule is inflexible you might want to book something with a generous cancellation policy while you search/wait (though in years past I've seen last minute J availability on New Year's Day). Good luck!

I think most loyalty programs, including Emirates, require that the name on the card initiating the transfer match the name on the receiving account. You can have your family member make a small transfer to your account to test this out.

If you have access to another non-fixed VoIP phone number (i.e., not Google Voice number or equivalent), you can try using that to verify the account: When choosing a verification method, select "text me a temporary code (select an existing number or verify a new number)," then on the next page select "or use a new mobile number" and enter that alt number. You may want to try this in Incognito mode or clear the cache.

Good luck!

I shared my experience with a recent repositioning flight in a post here (https://www.reddit.com/r/awardtravel/comments/1cwf4xi/comment/l4wlo6m/? ) but as the experience is still fresh in my mind, I'd recommend booking a backup flight in case your intended flight gets cancelled. Cancellations tend to have a domino effect so unless your other flight is insured or there are limited consequences to your missing the flight out of IAH, it really couldn't hurt to book a refundable/cancellable option for the repositioning. I hope your trip goes well!

This is very good advice.

Just encountered this myself. Had to reposition from EWR to SFO for a transpacific flight. Made the mistake of only booking one flight (as UA had multiple EWR>SFO flights a day, I thought at worst will just get rebooked on one of many other direct flights departing that day if something were to happen). 5PM Flight was cancelled at 8AM and I made the mistake of being offline for about two hours before seeing the notice, leading to a frantic scramble to find a replacement flight as UA automatically booked me on a 2-connection flight for the following day (all other direct flights departing that day from EWR/LGA/JFK were long gone by the time I noticed the flight cancellation) that wouldn't get me to SFO until two days after my transpacific flight departs. I was lucky to be in the tristate area with access to five airports in a 90-minute driving radius and managed to find something that got to SFO in time, but it was needlessly stressful. Don't be me.

ETA: This happened on a cloudless day in May in the NE so weather didn't even have much to do with the cancellation.

Thank you again for your thoughts. They definitely want to visit Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP at some point but I was finally able to persuade them to reduce the scope of the trip and just stick to RMNP. Will make a road trip out of BCGNP next time.

Thanks for your thoughts. I realize it's a lot of driving, but I appreciate the warning--especially about the extra time we should be prepared to spend to get in/out/around RMNP. Will also try for an earlier entry since we are all early birds to spend more time in the park. Will definitely look at lodging options in Granby and take your advice on the hike>drive>dinner picnic, it sounds wonderful and something I think we can manage. Thank you again for taking the time to consider the questions. :)

Thank you again. It's helpful. Will share your thoughts with my parents and see if I can sway them on just sticking with RMNP and surrounding areas on this trip.

If our schedule permits we may check out Zapata Falls (https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/colorado/zapata-falls-trail) but there's a far more challenging hike (https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/colorado/south-zapata-lake-trail) that u/Normal-Landscape-166 may be referring to. In any case I appreciate the warning and would want to err on the side of caution given my parents' age and also appreciate your sharing your experience with the trail.

Thank you for your thoughts. I will remove Mt. Princeton from the itinerary--however, my parents really want to see two national parks on this trip so I think we'll keep GSDNP on the itinerary for now as I believe the other two will require even more driving. If you have any suggestions for lodging near Estes, I'd appreciate it.

And sorry for propagating the sensationalistic headline--I certainly don't mean to perpetuate the fearmongering, just haven't been in several years and don't know if there are additional precautions that I should take beyond the normal, common sense-guided ones. Will remove the link.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my questions.

I have Google Mapped the itinerary and do realize the distances I will be covering (was capping driving at 6 hours a day assuming free-flowing traffic--which I've done before on a few consecutive days); I guess what I wasn't sure about is traffic conditions, and if I needed to budget more time and make adjustments to stops along the way. Will be making a few tweaks since I understand the point that you and others are making. I appreciate your taking the time to respond.

Thank you and u/NoCoCampingClub for your thoughts. Will skip Zapata Falls--had added the stop at the 11th hour on a friend's recommendation when she heard that I was planning to visit GSDNP. Will see if I can sell my parents on just focusing on RMNP this trip, but they were insistent on seeing a second national park on this trip. I appreciate your taking the time to respond.

Thank you for responding. I appreciate the help. Will change my flight to give myself an extra hour or two to navigate the re-checking of bag situation.

Thank you for responding. Apologies that my search terms did not immediately yield the links you shared. I found the international connections page on the SFO website (https://www.flysfo.com/passengers/travel-tips/international-travel/connections) but it did not show a Terminal "I" and I was a bit confused by a different thread I found which said that Terminal "1" (one) is also international (https://www.reddit.com/r/bayarea/comments/13g1t8p/how\_do\_i\_get\_from\_terminal\_3\_to\_terminal\_1\_in\_sfo/ ) Will check gate information on travel day.

Thanks again for the help.

Domestic (UA) to International (CI) Transfer at SFO

Resolved!

Either walking or Airtraining will likely work with ample connecting time from Terminal 2/3 to International gates.

UA policy on checking bags through from their website:

For most trips that include a connection, your checked bags will follow you to the last stop on your ticket. You'll need to go to baggage claim and re-check your bags if:

You have a layover

You make a connection that involves an overnight stay

Your connecting flight departs more than 12 hours after you arrive at the airport

You’re connecting to a trip on a separate ticket and the flight is not with a Star Alliance™ partner airline

You’re traveling internationally but connecting to a domestic flight in your destination country

Usually, we keep checked bags on the same flight as the traveler. If we can't, we send your bags on the next flight with available space.

Thanks again.

Do you still see these rates? I checked dozens of dates in June for SEA-TPE but can’t seem to replicate these rates. Thanks for sharing the deal!

Thank you! I don't know why it's never come up before for me that Japan and Taiwan are considered two different regions by ANA. Appreciate your help with my question.

Thank you so much! And keep up the excellent work!
