Hello,
Quick question about hotels/itinerary. Going with tweens who love to hike at end of August. I have 5 nights I can spend in the park, coming from Bozeman. Should we do 2 nights at the OF Snow Lodge and 3 in Canyon Lodge....or any other recommendation to split the nights/stay based on location/driving.
TIA.
I’m assuming you are using those two options because they still have openings for during your trip?
My take? Staying in the Old Faithful area comes with some major conveniences when you aren’t out and about in the park, as you’ve got the geyser basin to walk around in after dinner and stuff. Canyon is a more convenient for wildlife watching, as it shaves an enormous amount of time getting to Hayden Valley and Lamar Valley. If you can split your stay it can give you the best of both worlds, albeit keeping in mind sometimes weather might change your plans and you might end up driving further from your hotel if conditions merit it. I’ve done split stays about half my trips and done single spot stays the other half. Snow Lodge and the newer Canyon hotel units are some of the newest rooms in the park, I don’t have a preference between them in terms of rooms, but we have always preferred dining in the OF area over Canyon for a variety of reasons.
