Edit: ya know what’s crazy? In the last 5 years we’ve had 1 legit Calder winner in Kaprizov. This year we had 2 potential Calder winners in Rossi and Faber(Faber won in my mind). And if Boldy played a full season in his rookie year, he probably would have won the Calder.

Just bananas to have this many young guys on the Wild outperforming other teams rookies.. we got a bunch of young high level talent people, the years to come will be good to us.

I personally think Faber was more deserving considering the role he played for the Wild. That said, everyone knew Bedard would win because he's one of the poster boys for the NHL and points matter more than overall play.

Since you’re making an argument based off stats, Connor Bedard had 14 more points in 14 fewer games (a clip of .9 ppg vs Fabers .57).

Bedard had the highest point total on his team, Faber was 5th.

I have no idea, I am just a guy. But IMO, someone giving Fabes a fifth place vote has to come from a place of bias. There was not 3 other rookies better than him, not by a long shot. To me, Bedard was the only one objectively better, +/- not withstanding. But again, it's just regular dude's (possibly a little Homer) theory.

Our young guys make me excited for the future of the team regardless of whether they're winning awards or not. Still a team game. Even Bedard couldn't lift the Hawks out of the basement.

Nah, not robbed at all. Honestly pleasantly surprised with how many points he got - there was a huge gulf between him and Hughes. Only person not named Bedard to get first picks, and took a quarter of them.

Any rookie who scores at a PPG pace is going to have the Calder as their's to lose.

I'm not mad because I knew it would have been happening. Putting up point is more impressive than consistent defensive play while leading your team in TOI, posting the most TOI in a single game in the regular season (and 4th most ever by a rookie since the stat is tracked) and not being injured.

It is also true that Bedard led the Hawks in scoring while missing time and the Hawks were a shitshow so maybe he could have potted, say, 100 points if he played on a semi decent time while not missing time. But this also sparks the argument "if you're gonna lose, it doesn't matter by how many" that says that Bedard was basically free to do anything he wanted because Chicago sucked regardless and he scored points without caring for any other aspect of the game. This is an exaggeration but his +/- speaks this story, even if it is a debated stat.

All in all I expected a tighter race, I didn't really expect Faber to win. The best I can take is that there aren't enough rookie goalies to call for a trophy split because this season Bedard was clearly the best rookie forward and Faber was clearly the best rookie defenseman but it's hard to find conclusive argument for one to be better than the other.

Bedard’s should have won this. It’s a points based award, and Bedard’s is way more impactful than Faver. 61 points in 68 games compared to 47/82 for faber (which is great especially for a rookie d man).

Im a wild fan. Guys the mn bias here is crazy. I love Faber and he is a stud. Bedards best teammate is Jason Dickinson. He is 18 years old on a horrendous team. He played outstanding and you can blah blah blah all you want on his + - but he deserves it. Faber at least has a competent team with a decent d corp with brodin and spurge and a few good forwards. Bedard has noooobody. Anybody who really thinks bedard is undeserving of the award is completely minny biased.

As a wild fan, Faber got robbed. As a hockey fan, both of these guys played insane Calder worthy seasons. You can’t say popularity didn’t play a role, along with the difficulty of comparing a strong defenseman and a dedicated points scorer. However, both players deserved to win. I would be on team best defensive rookie and offensive rookie being different awards.

Taylor Hall played 10 fucking games this year. Faber had a decent dcorp, I said decent not good. Bedard had a broken jaw and got to play with Philip kurashev. Yes his popularity definitely played a role but he deserves it just as much if Faber won it.

If you think Bedard deserved it and Wild fans are biased for thinking otherwise, then make a coherent argument about his individual proficiency compared to Faber. Team situation is the smallest piece of the puzzle when the award is specifically about individual proficiency. I could easily argue that Bedard would have spent a lot more time on the bench on a more competitive team, like we saw at the WCs.

To take nothing away from Bedard and his extremely bright future, I personally think that Faber was a much more effective player in the NHL this season and had a greater positive impact on his team.

Player awards should be voted on by players, not by writers with preconceived biases. I'm not saying he's undeserving, nor that Faber was robbed. I just dislike the fact that he was crowned before the season started.

Disappointed for sure BF didn't win the Calder! I think part of the problem was he did not get a lot of attention early in the season. The real attention came in the last 1/3 of the season it felt like. By then it decided Bedard was winning.
