Should I use the "free domain" from my hosting provider?

I want to use hostngr to host my website. They claim that I am able to register a domain with them for free for 1 year.

I know that every provider wants your money really badly, so I am kinda scared that it wont let me transfer the domain after that year or that they charge me extra for the certificates or other stuff.

Should I risk and register a domain though them or just use a different domain provider that I have to pay for upfront but that also has a better establishment?
