I hadnt checked on these little guys in a few days and they are coming up fast! I thought I had spaced them out appropriately but apparently not. Should I thin at this stage or see how it plays out?
I wouldn’t thin them. I plant mine pretty dense and always have way more than I can use.

I'm under the impression thinning is not super necessary. That they throw a taproot and can thrive with 2-4 inches of space. "They like climbing on each other" is the advice I've always gotten.
In fairness, I only started with snap peas this season. I have them 3 inches apart and they're doing just ok. But I sowed them late, so it's hard to say the cause.
I’m gonna stick some more in the ground tonight thanks to this comment. I was never that impressed with my harvests last year so I should probably just go crazy.

Personally, I deliberately crowd mine - I feel like dense planting keeps the soil shaded/moist when it starts getting hotter and they die off more slowly. They regularly grow past my 6ft+ trellis and we grow more than we keep up with; if that’s stunted, it works fine for us.
This year I’m not thinning because I’ve seen people say not to thin peas and beans…so far they are all growing very fast and steady and mine are about triple your size and I’m seeing great growth everyday currently and they are about as packed as yours are. I think it will be a great experiment and I think you should experiment too.

That’s about how close i plant mine deliberately. I plant mine circular clusters though… always have high yield. Seems to choke out weeds and they help support each other.
Do half and half and see what happens. You'll know for sure for fall or next year's planting
I sow three per station with 15cm/6 inches per station apart and 45cm/foot and a half between rows. Between each double row I put a pea net down for them to climb.
As long as you water them well when they are in flower I think they would still be fine. Or you could thin every second one for pea shoots, which are great in a salad

This is neither here nor there, but I planted about 48 little snap peas and have been lovingly watching them come up (as I do with my seedlings) and Friday went out to lunch and got this delicious chili garlic pasta that the chef topped with a pile of fresh pea shoots.. somehow I got a tinge of guilt shoving them in my mouth 🤣😂 just nomming on the babies that I was so lovingly caring for at home… 😂

I would leave them and put a bit extra nutrients in the soil. They will shade each other. They look happy!
I do 3” apart and haven’t had issues.
I didn’t thin mine at all and some became dominant and are now 8ft tall and some stayed lower. I’ve been picking snap peas like crazy the past couple weeks!
Not as critical as other veggies…especially since you are growing vertical..
As an aside note: When my daughter was about 10 years old I planted lots and lots of peas. She made sure that many of those peas never made it into the house. She would just sit out in the garden and eat them fresh off the vine. LOL

I do 3 seeds per hole. 3 inches between holes. I don’t thin. And I get tons of peas.
Theyre fine if you plant them this close. Just make sure your trellis is strong. Mine was too weak and I currently have some bent pea shoots
You should thin them out a bit for sure. If you don't, their roots will compete for nutrients and they will not grow to their full potential. They'll grow to half size and produce fewer peas.
If they are in a garden bed in controlled soil, I typically thin them out so they are twice as close together as the seed package states. (6" versus 12" for example). At this stage I'd thin yours out to one every 2-3", then consider thinning again in a couple weeks.
I am growing 12 pole beans in a container that is 28" x 15".
Not sure why the downvotes. While peas are more tolerant of dense planting I find they become a giant tangled mess and don’t grow as vertical as they do when given a bit more space. Plus their leaves are delicious
