A lot of people already fucked up as a teenager and pay for it the rest of their life.

Not a good, private, four year like OP is describing.
- Does it need to be? 2. Yes, even a good, private, four year. I did it as an international transfer even. It really wasn’t difficult at all.
I meant "top (ie top30 nationally)" as I infer that is what OP is talking about. Top privates don't accept more than a handful of domestic transfers, let alone international ones.
Which, to get back on track with the initial point, going to those schools specifically isn't easy even if you try your hardest in high school, so it's still irrelevant. Also, it is not necessary to attend those schools to have a decent life. That's crazy-talk to suggest otherwise.
I don't think OPs argument is that you NEED to go there for a decent life, but it sure makes it easy, which is true. Even 20 years after college, a harvard degree is a harvard degree.
But going to Harvard isn't guaranteed even with hard work in high school. OP is saying making mistakes like not trying in high school ruins any chance of a successful life
Well it's impossible if you DON'T work hard, even if your name is Timmy Harvard the third. I don't think it's impossible, but it's hard to deny that working hard in highschool is going to do anything but help you.
Ops whole post is about how it's some death sentence to mess up in high school. That's just objectively untrue
