I am scheduled to leave from Tulum Friday morning and fly out of Cancun on Friday afternoon.
When I ask the resort or airline they say there are no issues/cancellations and not to worry about anything.
How likely is that there would be no issues to be able to take the shuttle to Cancun and not have the flight cancelled?

Slim chances of “no issues” I think. I’d leave now personally. My Mexican friends just a bit further south are evacuating.
"Leave now" is a less-than-helpful suggestion given that there are no available flights out tomorrow or Thursday that we can find. We can't figure out how we're supposed to evacuate if no airlines can get us on a flight before Friday? Any suggestions?
Yeah sorry, didn’t mean to sound insensitive. There’s 400k tourists that shouldn’t be there right now really. My Mexican friends are traveling inland to wherever they have family or can afford.
On the flip side, such a powerful one at this time of the year was not expected from what I have read.
Oh for sure. The strongest storm ever for this time of year in that area. But models have been saying it’s gonna hit QRoo for over a week and people have still decided to take their chances flying in.

Beryl only started life as a tropical depression on 6/28. It intensified rapidly because the ocean is 4 degrees warmer which is why it seems sudden. The early onset and intensification are both record breakers. It may downgrade but there is less wind shear so no one knows what will happen.

Take the ADO to Merida and fly from there.
Good luck with that. Merida is preparing as well. Very common in Merida is massive flooding, no electricity or water.
Try getting a flight out of Cancun. Or go to a larger resort that is built to handle hurricane weather. Hard Rock or Moon Place could be options. We moved our flight to Thursday and it shows its on time so far! Good luck!

Southwest finally, this morning, allowed us to change our outbound flight from Cozumel to Cancun, which is where everyone is getting evacuated to. We still couldn't get an earlier flight, but we were able to rebook on a flight on Friday afternoon. So we're leaving tomorrow morning for Cancun and will stay overnight there (and have an additional night reserved, just in case). I hope you were able to work something out with your airline!

It was just announced that the mayor is closing the Tulum airport 24 hours before the hurricane landfall (2am Friday by predictions).
So it’s a high probability that flights on Thursday will be canceled.
Resort now tells me that they will have an update from the local government tomorrow and they ( all the local resorts) enact measures based on that, if needed.
So my airline just moved me to a flight from Cancun to Mexico to my home city at 10 PM Thursday. Now hopefully they will not close Cancun airport by that time.
And I just saw that the rebooked Aeromexico flight from Cancun to Mexico at 10PM is already cancelled, so no idea when I am getting out :)
The Tulum airport announced they're closed until 7 July.

I have a question, every model that I’m seeing shows it down to a Category 1 well before it hits QR, and moving pretty quickly over the peninsula.
Obviously that’s still a legit storm, pero.. are there really safety issues if you’re inside a hotel bar drinking/chilling for a few days of your vacation?

No ice, no ac, no refrigeration, no water. Anyone stuck working will likely be resentful that you expect amazing service during a major storm.

As a former service industry person I’ve worked through a lot of storms in my life.
In my experience, mostly customers appreciate your effort and adjust their expectations accordingly.
Kind of a “hunker down/we’re in this together mindset”.
(*obviously assuming it isn’t a life/safety issue)
I think this had to do with us not knowing what to expect. We are not used to it and don't know what will happen if there is no power or roads washed out. Like someone else said the locals have been through a few already.

If you’re more comfortable being away from the coast, or out of the poorly infrastructured tourist zone, you can take the ADO to Valladolid or Merida (and even fly home from Merida if that’s easier.)

Merida does not have excellent infrastructure. The city floods with heavy rain, electricity can go out for many days, no running water.
There are certainly spots that are super prone to flooding.
But I’m guessing someone who vacations in a Tulum will be drawn to the North where most of the hotels/apartments, etc are engineered/resourced for modern weather challenges (buried utilities/generators, etc).

After being here for 15 years I can say that your comments seem way too optimistic and unrealistic. Have you been in Merida during or after a major storm? Doesn’t matter wear you are- the North is known for some of the worst flooding.
I’ve lived here full time for a little over 5 years.
Nothing is perfect, obviously.
But in my experience, working in construction here, most of the new privadas and tower buildings are as “protected” as they can be against the inconveniences of living through a storm.
But we all have different lived experiences and perspectives on things.

No disrespect but your English didn’t make sense. We just got back from Tulum only bc our itinerary stayed the same and we were fortunate to miss the hurricane. However, I will tell you not only were we lied to by our resort, now I find they have blocked us. There were some issues with our resort but we THOUGHT we handled them accordingly and professionally. One of the main “people” even spoke to my husband and found all I had spoken earlier to be true. I had told them I wouldn’t post anything negative, However, they blocked me. I can only see Reddit. I never intended to disclose anything negative but only positive with this resort but they chose to block me….. I wish you all the best getting home. We left the day the tropical just started. Prayers for all of you. But if you listen any anything from the states hear this- Do Not Listen To Resort Calming. Get out!!! Go onward if you can’t fly out. Just get away from the banks. They will lie to you and reassure you and you know deep down the answer. Get away from the banks. Get back to the US if you can. If not then find a place inland and hunker down. Praying for you all.
I’ve done it. Stock up on booze and especially water, don’t expect refrigeration or power or WiFi, stay out of the way. Don’t expect service - these people have lives and family, but don’t get to fly out when it’s all over. Your life isn’t worth more than theirs. If you’re the last one with booze at the apocalypse, you’re everyone’s friend.
What’s the latest consensus? Flying in tomorrow and a couple of friends are already there. Wondering if we should still go

We're here now, came in on the 29th when the storm was still uncertain. Now are trying to figure out how to get out or home if necessary. Travel insurance will not pay out unless there is a mandatory evacuation order or our flights get canceled, which has not happened.

I can say that no one seems stressed over it at the resort. People are arriving every day. Everything seems normal.
Locals never stress out over it. They've been through several and they're vacation isn't getting ruined.

I’ve been here since early Monday morning and planned to stay until Saturday. I’ve been out with a tour group all day and the guide and other tourists didn’t seem too concerned either.
Guides and hospitality workers are never going to tell you the truth
This. Those same workers will not risk their lives to work at those hotels or restaurants, even if they WERE open.
That’s kind of what my friends who arrived are saying but looking at the other posts on Beryl, it seems like there will be no power, floods, everything will close thursday onward and by the time it’s cleaned up and back to normal, it’ll be saturday.
