What can I do to save myself having to travel to this small town in Colombia to start my return journey home?
QuestionYeah I fucked up , I can’t believe I didn’t think of booking them separately. Is it an issue with the internal computer systems that wouldn’t allow me to board my return flight in bogota without having started it in valledupar? Isnt me being in bogota and having a ticket enough for them to let me on that flight? Obviously I’ll try make changes beforehand, I won’t take any chances, I’m just thinking out loud here and wondering the reasoning as to why that wouldn’t be allowed
It's standard procedure on almost every airline that if you miss one one leg on an itinerary then all subsequent legs are automatically cancelled.
Talk to your mystery airline about being able to drop one leg without cancelling the return flight to London.
Good luck.
Thank you! I just read their sequence policy. It states “tickets must be used in the sequence set out by the itinerary. Otherwise you may not be able to cancel tickets or board your flight” - the use of the word May makes it seem like it could somehow still be possible. Or am I clutching at straws here? In any case I will be contacting Avianca as they’re the flight operator, although I didn’t book directly with them I used skyscanner.

Ouch. So you've doubly fucked yourself.
Tough lesson and a mistake you hopefully won't make again.
Good luck.
Yep definitely live and learn on this. Someone suggested I should contact my travel agent (trip.com) and try change it. Worth a shot no?
Good luck.
Contact your airline. Let year i was supposed to start my return journey in Casablanca to Paris to Minneapolis. I called them and was able to change my booking to start my journey in Paris. I had to pay a bit of money but fortunately it wasn't too much for my ticket.
You should have booked the round trip from London/Bogota as one trip, and the domestic flight to Valledupar separately. Simple.
By putting them all on one ticket/reservation you've imposed severe travel restrictions upon yourself.
Talk to your mystery airline but the chances of you being able to drop one leg without cancelling all subsequent legs is slim.
Good luck.
