I used to think Excalibur would be a cool name. Wife didn’t like it though :P
What’s the worst name you’ve ever considered using?
general discussioni almost named my daughter “Saylor”
Saylor Mün
With siblings Aerman, Soulja, and Maureen.
love this name in theory but it’s so cringe in execution 🙈
It sounds really pretty the first time you say it! Then I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be Sailor with a Y or Taylor with an S, but either way I hate it 😂
Tbh I really like saylor lol. Theres a guy on YouTube who makes video with his daughter named saylor. I think it’s pretty
i think the name is pretty too, but then i seen just HOW many people were naming their girls that lol. yeah i think his name is Zeth if i’m not mistaken, i got the name from them actually 😅
Yes! Zeth! I love him and Saylor! It’s actually my grandbabies middle name!
There are literally 3 young "Saylor" girls in my SMALL town. I'm related to at least one of them... 😫
My sister always said she wanted an Oshdeana (Osh-Dee-Ann-A)
Barf 🤢 I told her I would always call her Yoshi
That’s a bad one lol
I know someone who named his kid the biblically accurate (or is it?) version of Josiah, its Yoshiyahu and they call him Yoshi for short.
"Yoshi-Yahoo"?
Yes that's how they pronounce it.
😧
Insert Super Mario theme. Edit: right after I said that, I legit heard the Mario Kart racing theme.
So I thought given a last name that was a famous razor company I would be funny and name my kid something like Blade, Nic, Mach etc. just so it would fit the last name. I didn't but my ex brother in law did name his Kid Nickolas and I still kinda giggle because he is Nic (insert famous razor brand here)
Nic Bic? 🤣
Blade Remington would be kinda badass though…
Porn name
My partner's last name is Law and I really really wanted to name one of our kids Marshall. My brother in law was dead ass going to name his son Johnny, but he had girls
When I was a child I planned on having twin daughters called Moonbeam and Sunbeam 😁
In that vein; when my mom was pregnant with my little sister (I was 5) I was asked what we should name her and was very adamant that either Rosebush (absolutely not just rose) and Utterly Butterly were the only acceptable names for her.
They went with Scarlet.
Nah you were cookin, they just couldn’t see it
Utterly Butterfly 😭 5 year olds have weird minds man
I loved the name Mordecai as a teen but wanted to spell it Mawdekai. I also loved the name Lillian, but spelled Lylyan.
Oh thank god, an actual tragedeigh! Great work! Those spellings are appalling!
I can only read the second version of Lillian as Lie-lie-Anne.
Tangerine
Like Clementine’s evil twin
Trying to think up good nicknames and all I got was Tangie. Like Angie, but with a T. I'd probably be pissy about my name too, tbh.
Middle name Dream?
As long as the brother's Lemon
I knew a girl named Valencia. When she introduced herself I was like “Like the oranges?”🍊. She giggled and said “yeah… Or the city in California… that’s what I think of…”
Louisianna....then I remembered I'd have to teach her to spell it & went with Anna.
For another girl, I considered Saffron. A friend later named her baby Saffron & after seeing the name used on an actual person...I'm glad I changed my mind.
My husband wanted to name our son Rifle. I immediately shut that down & he moved on to pushing for Beau Hunter. Like bow hunter. That's when he lost his baby naming privileges. 😂
I know a Saffron too, and I think it’s definitely a name that’s better in theory than in practice.
Ryker.
I’m pretty tame so that was a wild consideration.
How very Star Trek of you. Upvote!
Also on my list! But I'm done having babies now
Oh gawd.
I better be done.
I’m too old for this shit. lol
My ex and I had once considered naming our daughter Cheyenne Dawn.
With sister Delta
COULD IT BE A FADED ROSE FROM DAYS GONE BYYYYYYYY
My friend's baby is Summer Dawn and she literally didn't realize how it would sound together until after the baby was born. She just liked both names. Kinda funny, kinda cute though.
I actually like Cheyenne and Dawn seems ok. Am I missing some reference to something?
My cousins are named: * Misty Dawn * Canyon Glen * Iris Meadow
Noreliza. We liked both Nora and Eliza for our daughter and one day my brain wasn't working quite right and I thought, "why not mash them together?" 😂 Tbf, I still think it looks like it could be a real Hispanic name.
Nor-uh-lie-za kinda sounds like a prescription drug
"Ask your doctor if Noreliza is right for you" 😆
i read this as “nor-liz-ah” and all i could think was, “this must be what godzilla names his daughter” lol all i can think when i see it is feminine godzilla 😂
Sounds very Malay.
I have classmates named farahliza norahliza nuruliza….
It reminds me of the "Nueralyzer" from men in black, she would leave people dazed and speechless!
Thought about changing my name to Raevinleigh Stohne, but it would cost too much.
👀
Incredible!!! That’s a heck of a tragedeigh!
Thank you, I’m honored.
When I was a kid, like 12, I decided if I ever had a daughter I'd name her Jazzmynne.
Resist. Stay strong
Dandelion For a boy specifically Little dandy 😭🤷
My daughter's name is Dani and we call her Dandelion as a nickname she loves it, she would have an instant crush on a boy if she found out his name was actually Dandelion haha
Some months ago I looked through the newborn babies on a hospital Page near me, because of names and there was a boy called Dandelion, which was very much surprising seeing as I'm from Germany
I always thought Colander (like the spaghetti strainer) would be a nice name.
Totally a cool name if it didn't mean pasta strainer. It def rolls off the tongue nicely.
It kinda starts at the back and ends at the front, like crisp
I have been repeating "crisp" to myself randomly all morning.
So, thanks for that. Lol.
I straight up told everyone at my church to refer to me as Godzilla when I was like 7
In 6th grade I told everyone to called me Poodie (optional middle name: Poodenstaff) Garfunkel
Rogue, but only when I was a young teen.
Andromeda. In my defense, I was a teenager lol
I am using the name for one of my stories tho! Andromeda is solid for writing fantasy/sci-fi. I don't think it would be well-received in real life though.
Edit: Ooooh-kaaaay, I'm beginning to realize that what I think is a tragedeigh is not a tragedeigh! Lol I'm glad I'm not as bad off as I thought, but still it's the "I wouldn't use it for myself, but..." comments that get me! I always adored the name, but when I got older I realized I never saw anyone outside of a fictional story with the name. Not to mention, I don't really see people named after cosmic entities much, aside from the occasional "Stella." I have no idea why. Because, imho, names like Orion, Solaris, Zaniah, or Rigel really roll off the tongue super well. People name their kids after smelly cities or they try their hardest to be unique and original, but never consider star/constellation names!
Sidenote: No, none of the above mentioned names are not ones I've considered for a child at any one point, but yes most are being used for fictional writing or set aside for a future pet! A cat named Rigel would be so damn classy, don't you think?
Andromeda is less of a tragedy and more of a sick ass name honestly. As long as your kid has a normal middle name and a decent nickname picked out before they were old enough to be affected by it, I genuinely it’d be sick.
“I’m Emily, nice to meet you, what’s your name?”
“You can call me Annie.”
“Oh cool! Is that short for like Annalise or something?”
“Nah, it’s short for Andromeda.”
Man that’s metal as fuck imo
I LOVE this name. I don’t think I could ever actually use it but it is cool.
lol I have a name list and this used to be for babies but moved it to “future cats” 😂
i’d use it still, tbh 😂
Exqualiboar
I changed my name to Persephone for a few months during my freshman year of college.
Tenor
I was like 16 and I had a thought that if I had a set of girl-girl-boy triplets, the girls would be named Melody and Harmony while the boy would be named Tenor
Genesys-Kayde 🫣 (yes with genesis spelled wrong)
Lusamine, as in the one from Pokémon. I was 10, tbf
my mum told me it sounded like “loser”
Elizabella. I was 14 and obsessed with both Pride & Prejudice and Twilight
Eugenia. I still like it, damn it! (My grandpa’s name was Eugene).
ETA: I’m feeling very vindicated in my love of this name!
That’s a perfectly good name, with lots of diminutives. She could be Eugenia on her birth certificate but be called Genie, Gina, or Gene.
That's a pretty name.
Pretty normal name in my country
It’s kind of dorky but sophisticated.
I was dead set on naming my child Blue Zen.
great name for a strain of cannabis 🤷🏻♀️
Hello, I'm here for the "I liked the name Blue once" club
good character name. Just not IRL
I was pulling for Alvin. My wife put the kibosh on that, citing some groundhog or something.
Waverly😭
I know a Waverly and she’s fucking crazy! Like bad crazy
Rosalie Callisto. And Killian Caspian
Don't come at me but...Oyster for a babygirl 💀💀
💀💀 i have seen and liked some pretty wild names but this one takes the cake
Pearl I could see... Oyster is wild
Margaret (Greek for pearl) could be her middle name, or combine the two "Moysterette"
Moist towelette
Please don’t combine the names. That’s terrible.
I very much like Theophania, the original/early medieval form of Tiffany, but I can only mention that jokingly or my wife will ban me from contributing to the name when/if we ever have a girl xD
Emberly😭
Lmao I just saw this in the name nerds sub.
Daffy
not mine, but my cousin’s almost name was juarhlo (joo-wah-her-low). no idea why. they landed on rachel.
Caspian
The Caspian Sea is a real place, Caspian is a real name. It might be a touch fantastical to the Western ear, but it isn’t a bad name.
I always liked Caspian after reading the Chronicles of Narnia.
Bertha for a middle name, after Bertha Wilson (first female justice on Supreme Court of Canada). Sounds better with a Scottish rolled R.
I don’t think Bertha is too bad , it’s just old fashioned. I would assume a Bertha would be over 60 lol.
I assume over 600 lbs 🤣
My dad wanted to name me “boyer” or “dirk” . Im glad my mom won that one
At least Dirk is an existing name
Andrew. For a girl.
unpopular opinion maybe but I think masculine names for girls and vice versa are fun
We need more of the latter, feminine names for boys! Well, that's the dream, anyway.
Let's go back to naming boys Ashley!!
Here's to Ashley, Robin, Meredith, Evelyn, Courtney, Stacey, Rory and several other boys! And let's throw in Jan, Andrea and Sasha while we're at it lol
Beverly and Leslie and Kelly too! Bring it back! Those names are awesome on men
I went through a phase as a kid where I thought Patrick would make an awesome name for a girl. Apparently I was completely unaware of Patricia as an option.
I keep trying to encourage my kids to name a baby Sassafras - Sassy for short. I think it's super-cute. They hate it.
I also hate it.
The learner surpasses the master
You have a great sense of humor! My mom kept pushing for Flapjack (in jest). She still tells our daughter that if she were born a boy, she would have been Flapjack. It's a good family legend now.
Norman. Tbh I still kind of love this name. My husband and I still use it to refer to the hypothetical third child we don’t have 😂
Shakinah. Biblical word. Very glad I didn’t
I babysat for two girls recently named Araminta and Serafina (both biblical/Hebrew names related to angels) because Mom was Jewish and Dad was a Catholic Italian. Such cute kids and those names are soooo pretty but I feel like they only work in certain cases – I felt a bit ridiculous calling them by their full names at a playground. The parents have $$$ though, so I bet they fit right in at private school lol.
Umbrella
Eh eh eh
I seriously thought I was going to give all my children anime names as an adult, with my top picks being Asuna, Kuroko and Erwin. IMAGINE IF I HAD HAD 3 KIDS RIGHT THEN 🤦🏻♂️ “yeah these are my children, one of them is named after the most insufferable female character ij history, one is a last name and one is Erwin!”
Endymion lol, I really love sailor moon and thought it sounded super cool when I was like, 15
I don’t think it’s that bad (but people on this sub definitely told me otherwise) but I like the name Vienna🤷🏼♀️
i can’t. i just think and see and SMELL vienna sausages lol which is probably why most people on this sub hate it
I know a kid named this. Always makes me think of Vienna sausage, but really it's no worse than London or Paris
Never considered it as a real name, but I named a character in a story "Jareth," after the Goblin King in Labyrinth.
Belluh (said Bella) in a story I wrote in fifth grade. This was pre-Twilight, mind you.
When I was pregnant with my first at 19 I was dead set on calling them Callista if they were a girl. Thankfully, they were a boy, and I now have a 21-year old son named Nathan!
Aloysius. An actual name , but still rough on a kid.
Novalie. I still like the name Nova. Sorry not sorry
Tacka was the name of my imaginary friend when I was 4. Not sure where I came up with that.
Pepper for a girl. My ex ended up naming his girl dog Pepper 10 years after remarrying. Good name for a black lab mutt. I still think the right kid could pull it off. On the tragedy meter, it's pretty tame IMO.
Venus. Definitely too close to another word. 😅
Galadriel. Lucifer.
Luckily I was talked down.
Not a parent but as a writer- character named Galaxy Flux and I almost considered "Galaxxy Fluxx"
Anakin. The worst part is that if I was allowed to, I would actually use it. I stand by it.
I wanted to make our daughter after our grandmothers, Florence and Virgins. So either Florence Virginia, or Virginia Florence.
Then, thankfully, I tried out nicknames from those names and thought better of it. Because Flo Gina, and Gina Flo.
My sister was supposed to be my brother and my parent’s were going to let me name him. I picked PJ because I had a cat AJ. AJ was short for Alexandra Jane. PJ was going to be short for Pyjamas.
Because I loved Bananas in Pyjamas.
Purrsephone. But only because it's my fur baby's name. I would never do that to my children. Ironically, you can only feel (not hear) her pur.
Houston, for a girl 🤦🏻
Penelope because i was obsessed with punky brewster as a kid
What’s wrong with Penelope? It’s an incredibly normal name. Unless you wanted to spell it Pynilopeigh!
I know a Penelope. She's a senior in high school, a cross country runner, and all around great kid. No one makes fun of her name and she likes it, too.
Maynard. I still like it but it’s too old fashioned
I had an uncle named Maynard. When he and his wife first started dating, his future brother-in-law said, “Maynard? What the hell kind of name is that?” 🤣
I love the name Ophelia but our surname sounds like a nsfw body part so was off the table as quickly as it was on it.
Skynette. T2 was one of my favorite movies
Lumen
I’m the proud owner of a tragedeigh (myself, not my kid. Thanks, dad!) and so all of the names I pick are plain and boring and easily pronounced.
Glory. I like it but when I put the idea to my husband he immediately yelled, "hole!". The name was quickly dismissed by both of us.
rosesni. i am a big fan of twilight so i combined my mom's name and my exboyfriends mom's just like renesmee lol
Zelda
Galahad
My son almost ended up Galahad
I was flipping through a baby name book and considered the Greek name Dorcas for a moment. Said it out loud. Continued flipping.
(I am from the U.S.)
I used to want to name my triplets (ouch) Rainy, Sunny and Windy
Growing up I liked the name Sequoia. Then when I got pregnant I found out my husband always liked the name Sequoia. And it was so coincidental that for a few moments we really considered it.
cactus everdeen
this is when i was 13 btw
Not too crazy but my husband wanted to consider naming our son Ryder Dye. Pronounced Ride or Die. Shut that down immediately.
Texas for a girl
Might not be very relevant, but I worked with a girl named Tejas (actual spelling).
Tejas
Funnily enough Tejas is an actual name, a name in India and a male name, but still a name!
🎶this ain’t Texas WHOOO🎶
I know a Texanne
Jacklynn… we thought better.
Eliana Addison. It just doesn’t flow and is choppy. Etienne and that’s a no because I’m not French, even close to it, or living in a French speaking part of the U.S.
When I was in middle school I had a list on my phone of names I liked. I liked the name Erin, spelled Airyn because I liked names with the letter i. Please don’t judge me I was 12 lol
Rexly or Rexley I was young….. I do not have kids
saw it on this page a while back but I genuinely think Ansyr is a very cool name. might use it for a fictional character instead of a kid tho
Jezebel
my dad almost named me PeaGreen...my last name is literally a citrus (guess lol) and he knew how horrid my life would be😂
Former niece is named Alyvia. Grew up in a place where Southern accents are prevalent, so it's Ayyy-live-ee-uh. Oof.
When I was growing up I tried changing my own name to echo. when my parents refused to call me echo, I promised myself I would name my daughter echo. Thank goodness I didn't have a daughter.
Lowell. My husband is a huge Lowell George fan. The names not that bad on its own, but our last name is also takes some enunciation to pronounce (think The Rural Juror type of thing) so combining that with Lowell would be waaayy too much work to yell while at a park, grocery store, etc.
Calabasas. Callie, for short! Idk if I was truly serious. Would I have done it had my spouse agreed? Idk. We agreed on the name Callie, but couldn’t agree on a more formal name, so we moved on.
Tigerlily, bc I loved her in Peter Pan as a kid
The names I used to like were never tradgedeighs, but they were, what my husband refers to as; stripper names:
Crystal, Sapphire, Ruby, Skye... etc
Megatron (as a middle name)
Second worse was naming our second child with the same middle name as the first.
Neither have happened, but still think the second idea could've been a good conversation starter for them.
I've always been pretty tame, so the names I've considered through my life that got the most flack:
Annabelle (I still love this) - mom said the fuck you're not. I haven't seen the movie, just came across it in an old book when I was little.
Desideria - I still love this Swedish version of Desirée, but mom vetoed this as well.
Nova - husband looked at me and asked if I was serious.
Zeppelin for a girl lol after a dream that was what I named my daughter 🤣
Reminder to stick to posting original content. Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does not mean you found it "in the wild".
The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you!
