i’m sure a lot of you guys have seen this before. this is the scariest tornado footage to me. but i was just wondering which tornado was this.
okay thank you, i didn’t know.
I don't know but the one on the right looks like it did something shady and is walking away
It’s generally referred to as “dead man walking” and the videos of it are very cool
it gained awareness and wants to stray away from its counterpart
Dead man walking. Spooky shit.
Apparently if you see one you finna die or something along those lines. Comes from native Americans. Which probably know a thing or two about tornadoes as their ancestors have probably seen hundreds if not thousands of tornadoes throughout their families lineage.
i’ve heard of that myth and they did have legends around tornados but that line was meant to sell that tlc documentary better based on the Jarrel F5. but you know they probably knew a thing or two about them and seen some stuff
Occupying the Great Plains for hundreds of years I’m sure they witnessed some monsters
Many legends and myths come from unexplained/powerful natural phenomena, imagine being a native living on plains, having no knowledge of science and just being completely awestruck having a fear of God, it’s really no surprise that native Americans held the spirits of nature in such high regard and made legends out of what they witnessed
The 2013 El Reno tornado.
The actual gif of the multiple-vortex tornado "walking" is the scariest thing I've ever seen.

(Edit: changed from Jarrell to El Reno to not spread misinformation on accident)
i love the gif with it in a terrifying way
I used to be majorly afraid of tornadoes, like can't-even-look-at-pictures-of-it kind of horrified. But growing up and finding it more fascinating and liking meteorology a lot more nowadays, this tornado invokes that horrible feeling of fear and dread I used to have when looking at tornado media. It's so horrifying.
i live in va and have only been through 2 “twisters” but best believe i’m shaking in my boots anytime i’m in the 2% marginal risk area. i’ve been fascinated with them since a child.
I live on the southeastern side of the US. No tornadoes, really, but a lot of small bits of hurricanes and bad storms.
I've been terrified by tornadoes as a child, and only several years ago, did I get over the tornado fear and embrace my fascination with weather. I always loved storms because I hated how we got sunlight and boring blue skies all the time. But I'd still not wanna be in the path of a tornado whatsoever.
I live in OKC I’ve personally seen 2 full tornadoes and 6 formations/half funnels. I’ve ran away from 1 tornado that killed a lot of people. I used to work all over the state working on telecommunications lines and I’ve basically had to learn how to read radars due helping my company tell which crews needed to pack up and go home. Now I own a landscaping and underground utility company so I still tell my parent company to not work areas or leave at a certain time due to weather risk. It’s wild. I’ve become used to it tho I’ve worked on the sites that have been damaged and it’s wild how devastating these storms are
I'm glad you're keeping people safe the best you can. This year has been devastating already with it'd horrible outbreak, and last year with its several other tornadoes, too.
Me, before clicking: “psshh, I’m sure it’s just people being overdramatic…”
Me, after clicking: “yeah I don’t think I can fall asleep after seeing that…”
It's haunted.
No this is definitely El Reno. It honestly had a better dead man walking visual if you haven't seen the clip this still was taken from.
I've never actually seen the El Renos dead man walking. It was overshadowed by the more famous Jarrell Texas one from 1997. I'll change my original post to not accidentally spread misinformation.
Definitely El Reno and specifically from David Demko amd Heidi Farrar's video of it I believe?
Why when looking for this image does the internet push it as the Jerrell tornado?
Always been curious but never know why the famous dead man walking from El Reno always pops up Jerrell.
i’m not sure but i’ve seen everyone refer anything to Jarrel. My peeve is when people say that there is just THE dead man walking tornado and not just a type of one.
Specifically, that still is from a documentary called “Inside The Mega Twister” and was produced by Nat Geo. May 31, 2014, a 2.6 miles wide, largest tornado on earth that killed four storm chasers, including legendary chaser Tim Samaras and his son Paul, known for his safe practices. This tornado did weird things and caught him by surprise. It used to be on YT but they kept pulling it. Go to Vimeo. https://vimeo.com/579552709
