TIL that 70s / 80s music star Plastic Bertrand wasn’t actually the singer for his first 4 albums, and the public had no idea for 30 years. He only received .5% of the royalties for “his” international hit, ‘Ça Plane Pour Moi”, with the majority likely going to the songs actual singer, Lou Deprijck.
It was also made using a pre-made backing track that was used and released, at basically the exact same time, as Jet Boy, Jet Girl by Elton Motello.
'Ça Plane Pour Moi' karaoke challenge level : impossible.
(And yes, I tried. I used to live in France and know the song quite well. Still impossible).
Very strongly agree. I’m learning it now to cover with my band and hopefully do a studio release this fall - I’ve spent like a week just learning the first two verses. Now I know why nobody covers it lol
Sonic Youth covered it.
They did, and it's dope
Yeah I like their version alright. Little more feedback going on throughout than I’d prefer, personally, but still a cool take on the song. Presidents of the USA did a cover too in like ‘98. That versions just alright too imo.
My fav cover…
This is the man who once asserted that a plastic teapot orbits the sun somewhere beyond Pluto's orbit, but refuses to provide any actual evidence of this.

That was Bertrand Russel, a very famous philosopher, and it was stated to make a point of how ridiculous religion sounds to people who aren’t religious, since it follows the same exact principle when it comes to burden of proof.
No, you’re actually thinking of Plastic Bertrand, Bertrand Russel was a famous 90’s rapper and entrepreneur.
Shit, you bamboozled me!
I haven’t seen one of these on Reddit in like 8 years, nice.
I mean, is there evidence against it?
That's the point.
In one kitchen I worked in we'd play a game where someone would pick a song, and we'd play it on repeat until someone broke.
Ca Plane Pour Moi was the all time winner at 5.5 hours straight.
Brings new meaning to the term fake it til you make it
Hol' up. So who is the real king of the divan then?
You are!
Good company for The Monkeys and Milli Vanilli…
Except plastic was a genius, just no voice
I didn’t say he wasn’t - I just pointed out that this happens more frequently than one might think.
Im pretty sure the Monkeys actually sang their songs
Monkees
Just read up on them and I guess you’re right. Either I’m confusing them with another band, or I just got it wrong.
The monkeys were the first “manufactured” band, or a band created by a producer auditioning people rather than an organic process. They were created specifically for TV and most of their songs were written by Neil Diamond. That’s probably the part that made you think they were fake
Milli Vanilli and Boney M. 😂
And Bobby Farell.
And Boney M
You're using the term "star" pretty liberally here.
Here’s the original version of the song. It’s about homosexual relations and oral sex.
Not the original. Both of them bought the same pre-made backing track and released singles around the same time.
I heard Plastic Bertrand just hired the band from Elton Motello. I have no idea if that is true.
He didn’t. The instrumentals are identical. It was a catalog track that anyone could pay to use.
Risky click of the day?
Kinda. Not nsfw, but the powder and jerky dancing of the singer are really uncomfortable to watch.
The guitarists are next level.
JFC 😂
There's a great story behind this song. As the title mentions it was actually sung by Lou Deprijck. That name probably doesn't ring a bell but he had some big hits performing as two man sound singing Brazilian songs.
He was also the producer behind Viktor lazlo and he also had a hit with the reggae song Kingston Kingston performing as Lou and the Hollywood bananas.
Later in life he moved to Pattaya Thailand where he seemed to be having the time of his life goofing around and now and then performing in bars. He also made a version of the Kingston song called Pattaya Pattaya which was a local success.
Sadly he died last year.
