Shitposting at the End of Time: historical documents dating from the solar system era.
MemeI think a big part of Trisolarians making movies and shit was also some clever social engeneering, get humans to like you more and have them become soft on deterrence.
I don't doubt that trisolaris actually respects human culture as they claimed, but I think both of these can be true, especially since they never let us see, in the three books we never actually see a trisolarian.
I always figured the "respecting our culture" was always a bit like the Noble Savage trope in Western media. We respect Native American culture, we borrow their culture and imagery, like the presidential seal is a reference to a Iroquois myth.
That doesn't mean Americans didn't think Manifest Destiny was justified or that they were going to treat Native Americans as equals.
Unfortunately how things work in real life
The public's constant shifting between viewing figures as heroes and villains was one of the most realistic elements of the book for me.
1) President Třümp of the ancient nation state of "America" declares he does not believe in the "hoax" of Trisolaran civilization. Year 1 of the Crisis era.
2) Cody, after the suicide of the American Wallfacer Frederick Tyler. Year 9 of the Crisis era.
3) Wow_Mao, Ancient Common era hibernator (and shitposter) during the interception of the Strong Interaction Probe. Year 195 of the Crisis era.
4) Jreg, Ancient mayor of Ottowa and long term disbeliever of the dark forest theory, during the destruction of the trisolaran solar system, year 3 of the Broadcast era.
5) Pamphlets, an ancient hibernator, during the destruction of the Halo group, year 11 of the Bunker era.
Waiting for wow_mao to drop a welcome to trisolaris video
The JREG one is far too real lmao, that had me rolling.
wow_mao is definitely the type of guy to hibernate until the probe shows up just so he can shitpost about it
Truly, the most unrealistic thing about the entire series is that humanity would unite for the purposes of doing something to save the world, against a threat that was 400 years away.
Well, if you reframe it as humans uniting to hate another group, maybe more plausible. Humans love to hate other groups
Indeed, humans are very good at fighting each other, but even better at forgetting their differences if/when faced with a common enemy.
i figured this out from my cats, two different kinds. one day, one of them, the younger one was barked and chased off by a family dog until the other, older one stormed out and gave the dog a good deal of scratches to protect the younger cat. that was lovely to see but, once the dog left, the older cat kept bullying the younger one from time to time. haha
Yet they didn't completely unite and when they did, not for very long. There were factions that fought against each other.
Actually huge Trisolaran L for the whole showing all of mankind that it’s real thing. Certainly some people would resist but yeah if they hadn’t done that then no chance humanity would have United.
Humanity generally does not unite in the books though
Virgin this guy forgot his name vs Chad luo gi, lives a life of luxury, builds his custom girlfriend, points a laser in the sky, aliens live in utter terror of him
Where’s the 4chan post trying to convince tik tokers that the only way to stop trisolarians is to shout the n word at the sky
One of my favourite things to come from the subreddit.
Honestly one of the most unrealistic parts of the books is that everyone accepts the Trisolarans are real.
Did the trisolarans make the stars disappear for a few moments like they did in the series?
They made the universe blink but that was detectable only with instruments. Something else happened to prove that the threat was real.
Well it was the 'your bugs' message flashing to all of humanity, but a ton of people would still think it was the gobment or something
I think this happened in the book but the message wasn't worlds wide
Ah yes that must be it. I wonder if the author wrote those unrealistics parts as a way to quickly write the story or he meant something. Maybe to makes us think, "wow that was easy" then makes us think afterward. Anyway... I like the story.
In the first book, (Spoilers) there was a scene in 'the game' where they made a computer by having a million people in formation, to run calculations by signalling each other. Reminded me of this moment.
I remember thinking that was a uniquely 'China' way of viewing the problem/solution. And I think that 'philosophy' shows through in the way 'humanity' faces the Trisolarian threat. All the reactions to attacks, plans, preparations, etc? It's all told in terms of 'millions of people' reacting to things in the same way. Like humanity has a mass inertia that can be decided, directed, and redirected quickly.
One of my fave parts of the book. 15000 soldiers are killed because of wrong calculations lol
The human computer was depicted in the show too
human beings CAN be a resource...countries like China or old Russia/USSR...that's part of their strength
It's not uniquely China.
How many people decided to cancel J.K. Rowling?
Proving the point. That silly thing split people about 50/50. Or maybe 20/80 with a very outspoken 20.
How many people is the 20%, then? There's only two possible reactions, cancel and not cancel. There's 7 billion people. Millions of people not reacting the same way is mathematically not possible.
"Impossible for you" to quote sophon. Otherwise I don't know what we're talking about. It's "highly illogical" for people to react differently to the same stimulus, if you think like a Vulcan or trisolaran.
Even illogical reactions are largely within a finite parameter, especially since options are usually binary. You can either cancel JK Rowling or you do not.
Truly unique reaction of a single individual usually don't matter in the slightest.
Relevant reaction of a population either has a dominant camp, or in several camps. The trilogy is realistic in portrayal of both successful collaborations and illogical infighting (ETO - like they can decide what the Lord will do when they get here).
Also. You're quoting Sophon from the Netflix Series. Try to react to this:
It's not canon.
How many possible reactions could there be?
No shit people decided to "cancel" JK Rowling after she kept doubling down on her controversial opinions. That doesn't prove that humans have "mass inertia" or something, it just shows that when someone says something lots of people disagree with, lots of those people will criticize the person for what they said, which is both obvious and not that big of a deal.
The way you couldn't see that what you are describing is exactly what you claim it is not is so funny.
Unless you are saying that the existence of any very popular opinion is always equivalent to mob mentality or "human mass inertia", then no, it is not the same. JK Rowling made claims about trans people, other people challenged that belief using their own claims and evidence. Just because a lot of people held the second position doesn't make it a mob mentality, people aren't criticizing her purely because other people are, there are genuine reasons to believe her opinions are wrong.
I would define mass inertia as exactly what you said: "When someone says something lots of people disagree with, lots of those people will criticize the person for what they said."
That doesn't mean anything though. How do you know the people "cancelling" Rowling are doing so BECAUSE other people are doing it and not because that's their personal belief which other people happen to share?
It's simple. All belief comes from external stimulus. There's no innate free will.
HUH???
The hell are you on???
The fuck does that have to do with anything?
The effort of canceling JK Rowling is an example of how to direct mass inertia.
You make it sound like some grand conspiracy, and not JK bringing it on herself by being a bigot.
There are millions of bigots out there. And millions of people decided to target the one person they can target together, rather than going after their neighbors.
Millions on bigots, sure. But they don't all have the Twitter megaphone she does, as well as the largely progressive fan base who felt betrayed when she started making her beliefs known.
SPACE is like a BIG TRUCK. It’s a SERIES of TUBES.
Never a better title: remembrance of the earth’s past
The flat space one got me
I love the "space is flat" one. That'd be an actual heated topic among the scientific community when considering plausibility of curvature propulsion, but would trickle down and become unrelated nonsense on forums like Reddit
Good shit
I need this as a whole sub
Love this genre of meme, more please.
Don't forget America's best and brightest trying to bring down a Chinese balloon with laser pointers, instead of a space station with laser pistols.
Except that actually happened.
This is indeed a confusing timeline.
To be COMPLETELY FAIR there is some evidence that suggests the universe is actually a flat plane with no curvature lol
Huh ? Of all people, Trump ? The one accused of building a wall against migrants, which actually started before him ?
« Biden continues a tradition of building fences at the US-Mexico border that long precedes Donald Trump », time.com
He would be the one to warn you about the trisolarans, these space vagrants coming to destroy the great America, the same way he has been warning about many things.
On the other hand, Biden would tell you that the trisolarans are coming to bring peace on earth, and we should welcome them as space immigrants, these poor Trisolarans.
Nah, if the solution actually required any effort or couldn'tbe summed up in a tweet, he'd decide it's easier to deny the problem exists.
Or if the solution couldn't be finished during his term (so he could take credit for it). See the reports about him wanting to go to Mars, but losing all interest when he found out it would take longer than four years.
There's always that one person who has to defend haha. Lighten up my guy, stress is the ultimate killer in life
Lmao, the thing is this would totally happen. Sometimes I was a bit frustrated about the short lived memory of humanity in the book. For example one day luo ji is their savior and 50 years later when everything is comfortable he is the bad guy again? But yeah that's how it is in reality,
