Mine would be Sean Lock. He would have made a brilliant contestant! A comedy genius!
If you could pick one comedian dead or alive to be on Taskmaster who would it be?
Sean Lock was my first thought too. He would have been amazing.
Same
Absolutely. That will always be a major hole in the show.
Oh no, just found out Sean Lock is dead. Wtf
I didn't even know he was sick
God, can you imagine Norm on Taskmaster?
Yep! Rik Mayall would have been so awesome.
I still wish he was in Series 2 and Osman was in another. And I still wonder if he was meant to be. I can’t remember the exact comments, but some seemed to insinuate he might have filled a cancellation.
Me too. Sean would be the biggest idgaf contenstant
Rik was my first thought!
An alive one for sure
Be interesting to have one dead one though, just for a change of pace.
We've had Dracula and he was pretty damn funny
They’re going to have to “Weekend at Bernie’s” those team task
This is a joke worthy of my pick. Norm Macdonald. Chaos in human form.
Came here to say this. No idea how he’s do as he tended to play the fool but was super competitive.
Like, there are some tasks the dead person could win though. Like don't blink.
I'm still holding out hope for Bill Bailey
Imagine Bill Bailey and Billy Connolly on a team together. That would lead the most unhinged (and perhaps incoherent) TV of the century.
I wonder if Bill would be in the same trope as Dara and Robins and just absolutely ragdoll thed competition. He's a smart dude.
He's also pretty creative, he figures out musical applications for the weirdest instruments
I camped right next to Bill Bailey a few weeks ago! I asked him about Taskmaster, and he said he'd been asked but it hadn't fit in with his schedule yet. He seemed like he wanted to do it. I suggested the New Year Treat might be an option if he couldn't do main Taskmaster.
He also talked about not liking hiking in hot weather, and I was gutted I didn't ask if he's ever got Dave's Syndrome.
I really want Diane Morgan on it
I wanna see her mate, Paul, do the tasks.
I'd wanna see her in character as Philomena arguing in the studio with Greg 😂😂
I want Diane to do the tasks, and Philomena justify her attempts and choices.
Rik Mayall for sure , preferably with Ade Edmondson
He seemed to have a great relationship with Greg , would have loved to see more of that.
I’d love for Sindhu Vee and Sandy Toksvig to come on TM
Sindhu has been my top pick ever since she opened the coconut on QI!
I would love to see Sandy
I wish Billy Connolly was healthy enough to be on (and/or wanted to). He'd be hilarious
Billy Connolly lives in my town. His wife Pam is very involved in a number of local charity organizations. In spite of his health issues, I occasionally see him about town walking his dog or making an appearance at a charity event
That makes me very happy to know, thank you for sharing!
He was my first thought, enough anger to come out with some legendary TM quotes against Alex, enough silliness (Big Banana Feet) to go weird with the tasks.
desperate for chris o dowd
Now that you mention him I wonder why David O'Doherty hasn't been on yet.
ohhh or richard aioaoaoaoade!
I can't believe of the three of them the one we got was Jen. Katherine was great but wouldn't have been my first guess.
We did have Noel as well I suppose.
Ricky Gervais, dead.
What's the matter TM, too challenging for you?!
I fucking love this comment
ooo they said he couldn't say it - but then he said it!
Victoria Wood, Linda Smith, Caroline Aherne
Yes to Vw and Caroline, together ideally
I am in the US and since I started watching TaskMaster, YouTube recommends 8 out of 10 Cats a lot. I really enjoy Sean Lock, who was a new name to me, and was very sad to learn he has died. I
I agree, he would have been a great contestant on TaskMaster,
And if you haven't already, find the videos of Sean Lock playing "carrot in a box" against Jon. They played twice and Sean is diabolically funny (and clever).
Jon will NEVER win carrot in a box 😂
If you can, please also watch 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown.
George Carlin
I love his work but his anti-authority attitude would work against him
I feel like he’d understand Greg is a parody of authority (my apologies Lord Greg) and he might play along beautiful. I also have a feeling he’d either abuse Alex more than anyone else, or he’d be the nicest kindest soul to Alex, but there is no in between.
I agree on that. Strong Rhod vibes
Sean Lock, Phil Jupitus, Richard Ayoade, Dawn French, John Bishop, Ross Noble and Micky Flanagan.
IF they were to ever revive US I think you would have to put Paul F Tompkins on the first new season as a sign of goodwill to the pour souls like myself who have seen US.
Paul wants to be the Alex for a US version. I believe it was addressed on the taskmaster podcast
I’d like John Hodgman as the US TM. He and PFT are good friends so I don’t know that dynamic would work. I could see Hodgman delighting in lording it over his friend though.
PFT as Alex and Conan as TM would've been amazing.
I think Hodgman would make a better assistant. Although PFT would be fine too. But neither of them seem quite right as the TM. I just think the TM needs to be more edgy and snarky, like Greg.
If you ever watch the New Zealand version versus the Australian version, the NZ TM isn't hitting the right note, imo. Too nice. The Australian TM is better, closer to Greg's humor.
One reason the US version failed was because Reggie Watts was better suited to be an assistant. Someone with a lot of snark needs to be the TM, like Conan O'Brien. Conan is a bit of a bully, like Greg. (Actually, Conan and Andy Richter could do the job together!)
Part of the problem isn't necessarily Reggie's fault, since US is a half an hour they really don't really have time to let Reggie DO anything. The studio segments, for the most part, he just scores quickly and we move on. I love Reggie on Comedy Bang Bang he's an integral part of the first four and a half seasons, but I honestly think he would have done better as a contestant.
In think Jane Lynch would make a good taskmaster or Tig Notaro.
I want to see Marshawn Lynch
Ross Noble
Of the various suggestions this one feels almost inevitable, in a good way.
Probably not out of the realm of possibility to see him on TMAU, if it survives
How did I never think about Ross Noble before. He would be perfect!
Mitch Hedberg would be WILD
He’s got such a carefully constructed stage persona that it would have been interesting to see it slip off in the tasks.
It’s actually not a constructed persona! He talked a bit about it in various interviews, but the man was just seriously anxious and suffered from severe stage fright (leading to his signature glasses, as well).
Groucho Marx.
Harpo would also be great, if he did the John Kearns / Nick Mohammed strategy and just was himself instead of in character.
Could also see Groucho as a potential Taskmaster.
Say the secret word and win a bonus point.
My American Gen-Xer-ness is going to come shining through here:
Gene Wilder
Madeline Khan
Phyllis Diller
Paul Lynde
John Ritter
Bea Arthur
Marty Feldman
Dom Deluise
John Candy
Don Rickles
Robin Williams
No Richard Pryor?
Richard Pryor is an inspired choice.
I can't imagine the insurance costs
Let's just say Mel Brookes as well!
Paul Foot, Eddie Izzard, Kevin Bridges, Dylan Moran, and Ross Noble.
+1 for Paul Foot.
I think he would be a massive fan favourite. Especially for the people who don’t know him going in.
Robin Williams.
This is my choice as well. I think he would have had a fantastic time with it.
I hate to say it, and I considered him, but I don’t think so. Robin was an amazing performer but he was also a bit of a thinker and a gamer. I think he’d struggle to stay on task and be funny at the same time.
So we’d get the best of both worlds!
Performance on tasks aside, his in-studio banter would be epic.
Ok, here’s what’s in my head: a special treat for comic relief. Billy crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Jimmy Carr, and Susan Izzard.
One night, all live. Can you imagine?
Rik Mayall.
Partly because I just want him to be alive
Tommy cooper
Betty White or Joan Rivers. Joan would have eaten Greg alive.
Betty would be flirting hard with Greg
It would work too.
Buxton Buxton Buxton
Colin Mochrie would be awesome
All 5 kids in the hall for the entire series
All the Kids would be polite except maybe Scott Thompson.
Spike Milligan .
Wouldn’t Graham Chapman or Peter Sellars have been great as contestants? Hey, as long as I’m resurrecting the dead, I’m putting legends in those chairs.
Gilda Radner Buddy Hackett Peter Cook Lis Sladen (❤️) Neil Innes
John Candy.
The should do a one off Cats Does Taskmaster
Daniel sloss
Hugh Laurie!
And Stephen fry for good measure
Add Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson?
Bob Mortimer in every season please.
Oh, some amazing suggestions already, namely Sean Lock, Linda Smith and Caroline Aherne!
I’d love to see John Finnemore on Taskmaster (or on anything further in front of the camera!)
Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Emma chambers, Joanna lumly
Danny Devito
I've thought about loads before and glad to see a few of them already mentioned. Some ones I'd like to see are:
Bill Bailey (definitely the one I've thought about the most), Diane Morgan (close second, the rest are in no particular order), Sandi Toksvig, Susan Calman, Paul Whitehouse, Richard Ayoade, Claudia Winkleman, Tamzin Greig, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Simon Pegg, Peter Serafenowicz (unreasonably proud that I googled that after typed it to double check and I'd got it right!)
I've never really thought about dead people before, but I've seen Rik Mayall mentioned and that's a great shout. I loved Paul O'Grady as well, maybe even in his younger years as Lily Savage if we're choosing anything. Could go really old school as well and have Eric Morecambe, or Ronnie Barker! Caroline Ahearn would've been great too.
Rik Mayall or Linda Smith
This is the full nuke option... Greg Davies. With Frank Skinner as guest Taskmaster for that season, just because the show might not have even happened if he didn't say yes, it'd have a special kind of poetry to it to see him there in the throne.
Alex barely survived a season with Rhod Gilbert, I think Greg would actually put him in the hospital.
conan
norm mcdonald
Robin Williams would have been fantastic at Taskmaster. None of the tasks would have gotten done.
Emma Thompson because it’s pretty clear she has Sally Phillips levels of cray.
Cal Wilson would have been so great on Taskmaster Australia.
She would have been a pretty cool Taskmaster, too.
Bob Odenkirk.
I can just hear him getting frustrated with the tasks now... "God DAMN IT!"
I have a good series line-up
Two-person team:
Miranda Hart
Bill Bailey
Three-person team:
Stewart Lee
Charlie Brooker
David Mitchell
Mike Wozniak again.
That’s tough but I’d have to pick a medieval jester for dead. Any will do.
For alive, probably Catherine Tate. I also think Jack Black is such a loving and fiery soul that’d be brilliant to watch, but I don’t think Americans are considered for UK TM
We've had one. Desiree Burch.
I'm hopeful that Reginald D. Hunter will be a contestant at some point.
I really want to see John Oliver on a New Year's Treat. I absolutely need to see the banter between him and Greg. Just watch any episode of Last Week Tonight (if it hasn't been censored in the UK 🤣) to see what I mean
I think Linda Smyth would have been brilliant. So deadpan but wickedly clever. And she would absolutely shred Alex.
Leslie Nielsen!
Charlie Chaplain
If you're going to have him, I'll have Keaton, who I've always found funnier. That deadpan expression would work so well on that show!
I had the same instinct. Keaton's iconic deadpan would get so many laughs in the studio, and his level of fitness would absolutely obliterate some of the physically challenging tasks.
Craig Ferguson
I always answer with Colin Mochrie. I feel like he'd be great. To go with another Canadian who would probably be fun on it, Tom Green would be great.
If you didn't know Ardal at the time, then you'd hardly know Dermot Morgan, the man who played Father Ted.
But yeah, I'd love to see him on there in his prime. In my mind he'd be like a mix between Mike and Ardal, with a bit of Dara thrown in for good measure!
My answer will always be Ronnie Corbett.
But also recently I’ve been considering how interesting John Cooper Clarke would be on the show, and I believe he counts for both alive and dead
Karl pilkington
Matt Berry
Norm Macdonald
I love Norm but he wouldn’t put in an iota of effort and would probably negatively impact chemistry in-studio.
That's what I was thinking. He's my favourite comedian, but I can't see him doing tasks. I still pick him just to wake him up from his dirt nap.
Robin Williams
Rik mayall Robin Williams Sean Locke
Richard Prior
George Carlin
Any of the Goodies.
Rik Mayall and Sean Locke had been my first two thoughts.
As for alive, I'd love to see Bill Bailey as well. Even if just a NYT.
Dave Allen would be suitably irreverent
Nick Helm or Tony Law (both my fave)
Rik Mayall
Michael Palin in his prime.
Groucho Marx.
Robin Williams
Richard Ayoade, Robert Webb or David Mitchell!
Or from the past: a young Hugh Laurie.
Immediately, Robin Williams came to mind. I also think Steve Martin would be perfect for it.
Tim Robinson and/or Sam Richardson. Give us a Detroiters reunion on taskmaster!
I’d pick a dead Ricky Gervais
Billy Connolly at the height of his powers would have been incredible
Catherine Tate!! I think she'd be hysterical
Sean Loch
Robin Williams
I would really love Rowan Atkinson on it. He's really smart so he will get loopholes and he doesn't mind being goofy.
Dead: Kenneth Williams
Alive: Tony Hawks
Weekend at Bernie's style team tasks would be something.
Sean Lock is the easy answer
Trying to think more outside the box, Lee Evans would be hilarious chaos that I’d just love to have seen on the show
Tim Conway
Taylor Tomlinson or Tim Robinson
Robin Williams
Sean lock for sure.
I don't know how it would work because he's a puppet but Randy Feltface.
Fuck it, I’m going left field with someone who isn’t a comedian, but is funny, Robson Green…
Dead, Sean Lock, Alive, Jimmy Carr
Douglas Adams would have been delightful
Sean Lock (RIP)
Didn’t LAH say one of his dream dead contestants is Mother Theresa
Peter Cook would have fit in perfectly
Billy Connelly
I think a younger Billy Connelly would have loved Taskmaster
He’s not a huge name even in the US but after the very first Taskmaster episode I watched I immediately said “this show was made for Mo Rocca” and I stand by that.
Duos - The Two Ronnie's, The chuckle Brothers, Mitchell and Webb etc... duos having to work together would be a riot.
Sean lock. I feel like he'd be the male equivalent of jo brand, just absolutely not giving a shit about any of the tasks.
And trying to see Karl Pilkington in absolute disbelief at what Alex is trying to make him do would be absolutely amazing.
"What's the point, though?"
Rowan Atkinson
Sean!
Alive
Jeremy Hardy or Linda Smith would have driven Greg up the wall and I would have loved to have seen it.
Oscar Wilde of course!
Richard Pryor
Ross Noble would get a vote
Most probably not work and would be a disaster. But Clarkson, May, Hammond, Ben and Kaleb.
Jeff Goldblum! Unhinged
I’d love to see Hamish Blake
Robin Williams
Robin Williams
Sean Lock
Robin Williams
Colin Mocherie (also Ryan and Greg)
I was introduced to British Comedy through my father, and I'd love to see someone from that era. My first pick would be The Two Ronnies (imagine the team tasks!), but for people still living... are any members of The Goon Show still active enough? Monty Python? David Jason, perhaps?
Hugh Laurie
Bill Bailey.
Alive, probably
Alive - Kevin Bishop, Dan Clark, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie
Dead - Sean Lock, Mitch Hedberg
Not dead but never happen - Billy Connolly
I really want to see Mo Gilligan on it
Dawn French. Joanna Lumley. Jennifer Saunders but I think she’s way too shy 😅
with how brilliant and funny she is, i would love to see Sandi Toksvig on.
Stephen Fry or Milton Jones.
Ed Byrne for me!! Would be so good 😍
I thought of Sean when I read the title. Rik Mayall would've been great I think.
