Really depends on the type of haircut he wants. What style hair? I have longer hair so I go to Tribeca when I need a local cleanup or trim (long on top, faded sides, the meme haircut from a few years ago). If he wants a bald fade, detail work, beard, etc, youāll get a lot of responses. And while most barbers should be able to handle anything there are some better than others.
I recommend Tribeca but it might be a little expensive if you have short hair and go often.
I do not recommend Barber and Co. One of the owners there is just a straight up dick and openly talks shit about people once they walk out. They donāt give great cuts either.
I go to the Carrollwood location. Have been for decades. Im a guy and I would not consider the place if I were recommending a ābarberā as they are stylists. But truly great stylists and environment.
BarrelHouse Barber. Old school place with only two chairs. Theyāre refurbished old school chairs. Place is like a speakeasy. Clients bring booze and leave whatās left in the liquor cabinet. Having a glass of the whiskey is supported while waiting. Iād bring my own booze just to contribute. Conversation is great.
The owner had fallen ill the last time I was there (a year or so ago) but his partner was great too. They also do a really sweet hot shave straight out of Sweeney Todd. And of course the cuts are top notch too. Highly recommended.
Westshore menās hair shoppe, ask for mercedes, or wait for Joe. Heās an old school barber from the Bronx, amazing Cuban coffee, just got married last month, my hair has never looked better, been going there since 2018.
