Hey, they’re my two choices. Stop copying ;)
Where My Mouth Is, painfully underrated
Lucky enough to have seen them play it live. Wish they played more from New Again
I agree. In fact, it’s probably the only song I still have in my rotation from this album.
Everything Must Go 🥲 But also Carpathia
I second this
Everything must go is a great closer. The guitar riff at the end over the slower pace is the perfect example of their controlled chaos.
Where my mouth is, everything must go. I also LOVE the bonus Track "Didn't see that coming"
This album is criminally underrated
Didn’t see that coming is one of my favorites. The live from Orensanz version is great too!
Catholic Knees. one of my favorite songs ever made off one of my top 3 albums.
I haven’t heard that song in years I’m gonna give it a listen now
Sink into me or everything must go
Everything Must Go is the best for me… not only of the album but the entire discography.
Swing, New Again, Carpathia, Where My Mouth Is are absolute bangers as well. Winter Passing is amazing on a different level. All in all this is a hell of an album.
If I was TBS CEO I wouldn’t mess with the current lineup, but you bet your ass I’d have Matt Fazzi act as a consultant for each goddamn studio recording. Right next to Mascherino.
Both Matts (Fazzi and Rubano) are incredibly talented musicians.
New Again, Lonely Lonely, Swing, Carpathia & the bonus track Long Time Comin are amazing and have great guitar work. Other than that Where My Mouth Is, Everything Must Go, Didn’t See That Coming, & Winter Passing are some of their stronger ballads and showed this lineup had fully realized songwriting capabilities.
This record does not get its due when it comes to their shows and the energy of this album is not only missed when it comes to their setlists but would add a much needed heavier dynamic to the atmosphere of their shows in general. You’ll get Everything Must Go at their somewhat hometown holiday shows at Starland Ballroom in NJ which sadly is the only time you can expect the band to dive a little deeper into their catalog for their setlists for their other albums in general, but especially in the case of New Again material these days, which is a shame considering how much great material they have not only on this album but in their entire discography overall.
If it’s not too much of a hassle to get to Jersey in the winter I highly reccomend these shows as a devoted longtime fan. This year is the 10th anniversary of them doing these shows and not that they’ve announced anything for it yet, but I have a good feeling they’re going to do something special for its celebration for sure. A one off 15th anniversary playthrough of New Again would be awesome for instance, but probably unlikely. What I mean generally about why these shows standout for example is over the last few years, not counting the 2018/2019 full album playthroughs, we’ve gotten deep cuts like I said Everything Must Go, but also El Paso, Best Places To Be A Mom, This Photograph Is Proof & 180 By Summer (which oddly aren’t staples in their setlists anymore), Beat Up Car, Miami, Death Wolf, All Excess, Twenty Twenty Surgery, All Ready To Go, Better Homes & Gardens, The Union, Faith (When I Let You Down), You Got Me, Spin among others. In the earlier incarnations of the show they’d often play Your Own Disaster, The Ballad Of Sal Villanueva, and the heavily underrated Happiness Is bonus track How I Met Your Mother. It’s crazy to think a majoirty of those songs are even considered unusual for their shows, but the band has sadly voiced disappointment in their crowd reactions from when they play deeper cuts, which I wish they didn’t care about, but I can always rely on the starland shows for them to change things up from their usual set. I really wanna catch them on the current tour they’re on, but the setlists are a bit on the safe side for me but if there’s any significant changes to it as it goes on I’ll probably go. It’s also worth noting that before this tour started they had one of those instagram copy and post stories thing where fans would vote on what they want the band to play and almost everytime the band shared it there were songs from New Again which was cool to see them pay attention to by sharing, yet it doesn’t seem like they actually paid any mind to it since this tour again seems to be very standard in terms of what they usually play. If they consider this and like I said change things up I’ll probably end up going, but otherwise I’m really looking forward to the holiday shows this year and am really hoping for more new again cuts.
underrated comment
Carpathia and Summer, Man are in my top 10 TBS songs.
Right there with yA
Swing
Summer man
I ain’t workin’ for you anymore!!
Carpathia
This might be an unpopular pick, but Capital M-E was always my favorite on this album.
Everything must go.
And….. now I feel Old Again.
I'M GONNA LEAVE THE SAME WAY I .... CAME
I’ve never gave this record a chance. I might have to take some of these suggestions and listen to the songs
Lonely, Lonely!
This is one of the best songs they’ve ever written. It rocks so hard.
Carpathia! And damn 15 years? Man, that was ages ago…
Cut me up Jenny is fun and still holds a ton of replay value for me
Everything must go
Everything must go is one of their best songs of their entire career. Eddie called it the part two to ghost man on third.
Everything Must Go and Carpathia…but I literally love every single song on this album.
I’ve seen TBS live at least 7 times and I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard them play a single song from it.
I know the band practically disowned this album and fans were weird about it initially, but I love it so much. It got me through such a weird place in life at the time. I had just fallen out with 5 of my best friends (2 of whom were at college with me and 1 of them was my roommate, and they both had stolen money from me), my uncle had recently died by suicide, I had just finished my freshman year of college and decided to switch majors at the end of it, and a bunch of other stuff. A lot of the lyrics spoke to me in a big way and I was excited for what this iteration of the band would bring. I met them at a meet & greet right before the album came out and they seemed genuinely stoked on the album and I saw them on the New Again tour in Philly. They played at my school in November of that year and it was a great show. I met Fazzi after their set, and he recognized me from the meet & greet earlier that year. Fazzi also sold me one of his guitars that he recorded on that album and used on tour. Dude was/is a real one. Crazy talented, super nice. I feel bad that all the blame was laid on him when this album didn’t match the same level of success that their previous albums did. It’s not a particularly well-produced album. Fazzi is mixed too low, the instrument levels are a little wonky in places, Adam’s vocals are sometimes mixed in a way that makes it sound like he’s right in your ear. But the songs are all good to great, except Cut Me Up Jenny. Never was a fan of that, but it’s okay because Didn’t See That Coming and Long Time Comin’ both exist and are incredible. Anyways, favorite song? Probably Everything Must Go. But it changes each time I listen to the album.
Also I saw them in Fall 2013 a couple months before the released Happiness Is… and they played “Catholic Knees” at that show. Was not expecting it at all, but it was awesome to hear John and Shaun playing it. The band looked like they were having fun with it.
Catholic Knees and Cut Me Up Jenny
Tied between Sink Into Me, Cut Me Up Jenny, and Swing
Everything Must Go or Sink into Me
i do not remember a single song off this album as being anything i’ve thought to play in the past 14 years. i don’t dislike it, it’s just if i’m feeling like listening to tbs, these songs are monstrously far down the list.
Carpathia...and the rest of the album.
Swing and Carpathia (Version Dance DiCaprio).
Most underrated album of there’s
No it isn’t. Stop it. I’m not that old.
Sink into me, swing…
This album is one of my favourites ever though.
everything must go 100%
Cut Me Up Jenny, hell idk. This album is perfect. One of my favorite albums of all time by anyone
Where my mouth is And everything must go
Underrated album for sure.
I’m partial to Summer, Man. It’s like the old stuff was new stuff. You know?
Probably Swing or cut me up Jenny
