I'm considering getting a used Blofeld, for the multi-timbrality mostly (just wish it had audio over usb). I'm really used to ease of use in Vital/Serum so I think I'll want to prepare patches with the computer.
What's the best Waldorf Blofeld editor in 2024 in your opinion and are they still supported with current Mac OS? Cheers!
Blofeld users, what's your fav editor?
Thanks a lot, oh I see that's also an iPad app. Do you know how much the in-app costs by any chance? Have you tried bloX as well?
Sure, np! I believe each one is around $30-$40 for macOS. Not sure about iPadOS. I’ve used it in the past for a Minilogue and a Basstation 2. Both worked incredibly well.
sounds great, thanks again
from the website:"..create random patches.."
don't forget that the Blofeld has already a "Random" function integrated ;-)
100%. Good point! 🙂
Honestly... I just use the hardware.
It's really not at all that bad once you get used to it It's in fact a very well laid out interface for its limited number of controls.
Yeah IMO the only reason to use these is the flaky encoder.
I think I got lucky with mine, no issues at all with the encoders. Though mine is a later model black edition.
The front panel is so incredibly easy to use and after you spend some time with it your hands do the thinking for you. It’s logically laid out. Would rather edit from the panel than software any day.Â
However using as multitimbral  takes some getting used to.
Multitimbral mode seems intentionally designed to be full of trip wires to wipe the entire patch. But other than that, yes, editing from the front panel just works.
I use the bloX by mystery island. Has some minor bugs but the overview of basically all data is good. You can also super quick load sounds and banks from your computer to the synth and back.
One downside for me: it sometimes causes clicks and CPU spikes (in Ableton live) that I can't quite understand.
Other than that it's good. My most popular track (200k streams on Spotify) was almost entirely made with the Blofeld and that editor.
thanks a lot I'll look it up. have you also tried patch base? (alos recommended by someone else here).
Waldorf Blofeld Editor and Librararian from Aura Plugins. The developer has a Discord in case one has questions.
I use a few…or at least I try to use them since they have each their own problems… or I am too dumb… if so… help me please. :D
(I work with Cubase on Windows btw..)
Monstrumfeld:
After neglecting my Blofeld for some time it (I don’t know how!) finally identified it and can read the individual Programs and displays the knobs and every accordingly on its standalone variant.
When it comes to the VST: It still doesn’t recognize my Blofeld and my Keyboard when use the VST Version but it can read the automations I have written… but because it isn’t able to recall the programms (why?) within Cubase i have to adjust the automations / different banks accordingly after each new start of each project.
Also the automations are not labeled accordingly to the Blofeld… that would not be a problem if it would recognize the different banks in my DAW just like the standalone version does outside of it.
I contacted the developer some time ago but haven’t gotten any answer.
VST-AU from reKon Audio:
Standalone works like charm, the VST also.
Everything is named accordingly to the Blofeld or at least differently (not like the Monstrumfeld where I have 4 - 5 instances of AmpEnvelope).
The only issue I have with the VST is: It sometimes freezes my Cubase. Also when I have a pattern of straight 16th notes it skips some of them and I have a strange shuffle beat… I have this problem everytime, regardless of tempo or notes played.
I contacted the Developers yesterday…maybe they will answer me.
The one from Aura:
I just tried the Demoversion but couldn’t connect it to my Blofeld.
Can’t say too much about it then.
I adore my Blofeld and would like to use its to its full potential, but every (DAW-usable) editor I came across until know lacks important features in one way or the other.
Or I am missing something important when setting them up… in this case please feel free to help me. :D
I'm not sure if this is available for Mac OS: SoftKnobs for Blofeld is solid. It lays out all functions and parameters of the Blofeld very clearly.
Hands down the best for Blofeld and many other synths:
