This might be a weird question, however it’s a thing that I am thinking about regarding having children, which is: What books can I listen to on audio or read aloud while a small child is listening in, but that aren’t explicitly children’s books.
So looking for:
a) books that don’t contain any triggering content, that can go above my potential baby’s/toddlers head - so non-fiction and fiction that is predominantly “for me”
b) books that are enjoyable both for small(er) children below the age of 10 and adults - so books for the whole family that aren’t necessarily marketed as children’s books. (YA and Middle grade, i.e. Harry Potter, Northern Lights, Percy Jackson, would be fine here ☺️)
Do these types of book even exist? Thanks so much for your help! ☺️
I think these count: A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers, The Milky Way by Moiya McTier, Small Miracles by Olivia Atwater, Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, Howl’s Moving Castle by Dianne Wynn Jones, The Never Ending Story by Michael Ende, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, Mudlark by Lara Maiklem, Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, An Immense World by Ed Yong, Pigeons by Andrew Blechman, Lapidarium by Hettie Judah, The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery, Fashionopolis by Dana Thomas, The Order of Time by Carlo Rovelli, Threads of Life by Clare Hunter, Consider the Spoon by Bee Wilson, & Your Inner Fish by Neil Shubin
