is it normal to feel like u chose the wrong program for urself?

hi, im an incoming freshie. i took stem as my strand during senior high and kinaya naman nahirapan lang talaga ako sa mga subjs na math related.

now, i chose bsba marketing management as my program and i feel like di sya para sakin kasi mahina ako sa math :( feeling ko along the way mabburn out ako dahil more on math subjs pala muna tinatackle sa program na yon.

but gusto ko naman yung program ko kasi madami daw job opportunities (idk if this is legit 🥹) and i want to work sa companies and have a job position that more on the creative side like making contents or advertising a product ++ im confident din w my skills pag dating sa photography and editing that i might use in the near future

but yun nga yung program itself is mahirap, feel ko parang di sya for me or mali yung program na kinuha ko? like feel ko di worth it na magpakahirap ako sa math 😭 HAHHAHA idk if nagegets nyo ba? sorry idk how to say it exactly with words basta nappressure talaga ako sa math, everytime may math subj kami nung shs nalulutang ako lagi sa numbers huhu

thats why im having second thoughts if tama ba naging desisyon ko huhu

Co STEM girlie here too! But since walang plano magdoktor at engineer kaya naligwak pagdating ng college, umabot sa pagiging delayed haha akala ko for me na yung BSEd - Major in Science. Pero ako nga pala ung breadwinner & eldest Asian daughter, at baka magexpect sila ng mas marami sakin kung posibleng below min. wage lang kitain ko, ayun lang. Bye bye kahit passion ko magturo tapos science specialization pa sana.

'Di ko talaga alam kung bakit ako nasa Psych ngayon, genuinely wala ako balak magboard sa RPm. Naisip ko lang nung nagshift ako from educ sa prelaw course nalang, since isa sa pinakamalaking regrets ko as a student was choosing a strand far from my passion. Dagdag pa yung mga mababa ang tingin sa'kin kasi alam nilang wala akong passion sa course nato lmao

Kung papalarin talaga sa Educ route ko dadalhin degree na 'to, and hopefully Juris Doctor din :) to my surprise I can't believe I made it this far w/ a course I just made myself bear with hehe :3 trust the process lang ig

from stem too and had the same thoughts hehe i first chose comsci over medtech (which is my current course now) dahil sa job opportunities and high salary na dala ng comsci. im actually fine with math pero ang talagang nahirapan ako is yung programming side pa mismo. i guess naging factor dun is naging freshie ako during online class and mga kaklase ko halimaw na sa coding.

when i felt that i no longer find joy and di na maka keep up nag shift na ako after 1st sem to medtech. mahirap yung course ko ngayon pero i felt na ito na yung para sakin, kasi kahit na nahihirapan ako naeenjoy ko siya and i don't feel burnout. if you feel that you can no longer find joy on the challenges your course gives, then i suggest mag shift ka na ng course na sa tingin mo mag b-bring out ng strengths mo. weigh mo yung pros and cons.

i understand na isa rin sa iniisip natin ay yung mataas na sahod in the future and being a medtech here in ph, di mataas sahod so im thinking of opportunities for medtech other than in hospital na medyo mataas-taas ang sahod.

be updated din sa market time to time maaring ung job oppurtunies ngayon demand, pero as time na grumaduate ka, baka saturated na yung market, lalo na ngayon some industries are saturated sa entry level.

Oo hahahaha sobrang self doubt ko nung freshie days ko, online class pa nun kaya lalong mahirap kasi wala din interaction with classmates and wala akong circle of friends that time. Stem din ako nun but I ended up in a business/pre-law program. Mahirap talaga yung freshman year mo kasi andyan yung adjustment sa new culture & amount of workload. Kahit pa sabihin na maraming GE subjects, mas strict na din kasi ang college professors. Lahat ng factors na yan nakaka contribute sa pagdoubt mo on whether you chose the right path for yourself.

Tanda ko nun may thoughts ako sa pagsshift nung 2nd sem ko tsaka nung 2nd year. Pero di ko naman alam kung saan ako lilipat, tapos ayoko din ma-irreg. Incoming senior na ako ngayon and na-survive ko naman yung past three years, madami akong natutunan at na-inspire ako sa mga profs & peers ko kahit na ang hirap at madaming challenges.

Maybe you can continue muna and just see how it goes. Baka pinangungunahan ka lang ng worries mo. Malalaman mo naman yung breaking point if gusto mo ba talaga dyan or ayaw, pero I suggest you try and experience it first. Yung talino at innate na galing malaki ang advantage niyan sa college, pero importante din yung matutunan mo yung necessary skills & sipag for your course, so trust the process talaga.

hey fellow freshie here!! although i am not a stem student during my shs days (ang weird sabihin), i am also quite unsure of my chosen program kasi ang kaunti ng job opportinities.

that being said, i think that in the upcoming days, pakiramdaman mo muna kung para sa'yo 'yung program na inapply-an mo or it-take mo sa college, the term that i'll use is "ambiguous", the future is ambiguous and the way to conquer that ambiguity is by moving forward and by living the best life ahead.

yet, practically speaking, try mo muna kung para sa'yo talaga ang program, if not—and if you have enough resources— try to shift after your 1st year, or kaya kapag kinaya mo, then live mo muna ang college days mo while also thinking abt future job prospects or opportunities.

ayun lang, may you succeed in life, op!!
