Horse girl with no horse starter pack
Never would've suggested this.
But now everyone else is wrong.
“I’m not like other horse girls. For starters, I don’t have a horse.”
And I’m not a girl
this feels spot on
God damn this is spot on.
Eloquently described
Equestrian denied
This is 1000% spot on. This is exactly my best friend in elementary school. Biggest horse girl ever…and actually she eventually got a horse! But the horse was like…wild. I tried riding it once and went flying …anyways I’ve been scared of horses ever since lmao. Last I heard she was studying fine art in Italy!

Deep tumblr artist 2012
*ever
Oh boy let me tell you, Tumblr changed A LOT
I wonder, what us tumblr like nowadays? I haven’t visited it in a long time
Shitposts lol. You can literally post anything that pops into your mind, it's great. Oh and nudity is kinda allowed again. It's all super gay, of course
We finally got polls and vanilla extract became a meme because of it
Wait how did vanilla extract become a meme?
People would play with the polls by making polls like build a set of stairs or make a giant F or make a color by picking between cyan, magenta, and yellow where users would blindly pick choices in order to work together towards a common goal made from the poll percentages.
Someone made a poll where users had to pick between ingredients in a cake in order to try and make the result percentages into the right ratios to make a cake. But people ended up picking their favorite ingredient and vanilla extract overtook all of the other options. Then to perpetuate the joke people kept picking vanilla extract in the poll to make the percentage in the poll larger because of the humor in imagining a cake made with two cups of vanilla extract.
Soon because people on tumblr will happily beat a joke into the ground, vanilla extract started popping up in any random poll with the joke being that whatever else you have in the poll people will go out of their way to pick vanilla extract making it the most popular result. This continued until the joke hit critical mass and now there's a rivalry between people who are sick of vanilla extract and people who want to watch the world smell faintly of vanilla no matter how much it might piss people off.
no, not really. the current art community on tumblr is MUCH different. this is more like current instagram art.
Instagram art has always been like this
The "has talent but no imagination starterpack"
You basically paraphrased the rejection letter hitler received from art school.
Oh shit I knew I would start a world war at one point
Alma Hitler is going to be furious.
Dont you mean
Fuhrious?
And fast
"bland, architect's sketches"
He could have actually made a pretty good architect and IIRC the arts academy referred Hitler to apply for that school.
His paintings weren't great and they weren't terrible. His first mistake was applying to the most prestigious art school in the world at the time.
Just look at this list of alumni, this is a high school. It ain't even Juliard, do you think the random theatre kid that went to school with you could have gotten accepted here?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Fiorello_H._LaGuardia_High_School_alumni
LaGuardia is a decent art high school, sure, but definitely not required for the cities prestigious art universities.
So this is the Adolf Hitler starter pack then
Well, it does have Paris in it. And some really Aryan people. And Hitler did like to sketch Disney characters (allegedly). So let's call it the "Adolf Hitler as an artist" starterpack.
Uh oh.
Agreed, even if the art is realistic and proportionally accurate, there isn’t a lot creativity or interpretation that can be gotten for it. I would day that I don’t mind if someone isn’t a master painter, but if they can make iconic and memorable designs that give me a pleasant feeling, I would prefer their art more.
A lot of the stuff on the art subs are all bullseye compositions.
And hyperrealism circle jerks. The most boring movement in art imo. Just take a photo.
I agree. I mean the level of technical talent is huge, but a soulless still life or tiger isn't going to keep people's attention.
Wait what? They trace/use enlargers or whatever. Yeeesh.
EDIT: As an IT shlub and doodler this makes me feel better.
Hell yeah, doodles rule and are a fantastic way to improve! Please don't get the impression that one has to master a skill in order to be "valid", this implies for art and other areas. Its amazing to see people like you who dabble in many fields, keep on exploring! :D
I think, for most people, it's good to get technically proficient at their craft first. Especially with something like writing. Every highschool grad that went through AP or some form of advanced writing reads the same to me, which is good because they are writing the "correct" way. As they mature and expand their horizons they develop their own style and learn when it's okay and also a good thing to break conventions.
Unrelated but talent doesn't account for being good at art. Every artist I saw, talked, befriended with, all of them are hard working, doing arts daily, finding online sources, taking courses, learning the fundamental, exercising. Saying it's all talent is just like disregarding their efforts pit into learning and if anything. To quote my art-learning friend:
Folks want to have that skill. By telling themselves it's "talent" that's "natural", it's an easier pill to swallow than "you can do it too, just practice for a few years"
i know you’re describing the difference between talent and skill, but the regular person isn’t as caught up in the differences between the two, they’ll often use them completely synonymously.
someone might say “wow you’re so talented, i know you’ve worked hard to do that” which wouldn’t make sense under the real definition but shows they haven’t distinguished these two words so don’t take it to heart that your efforts aren’t acknowledged.
Yeah, that's why I am explaining it so they don't mistake anymore :)
Yes, I have had this same "debate" with people about singing or musical ability. Some people naturally are very gifted and proficient, but everyone could improve drastically putting in the work and discipline. And if there's no internal reward, maybe that will never happen, but the people who just say "I can't ______, it's just genetic" really downplay how much effort most people put into things.
True and if you want to get technical with it. Many great artists over the years have actually had little talent, from a classical artist’s prospective. Outsider art is huge. People like Maud Lewis, Anna Zemankova, or even people like Banksy demonstrate that you can have an impact with your art without respecting the “rules” of art so to speak.
Talent means having imagination to create art, not just being painting machine
That one girl in your art class
... that says she can't draw
Usually, people who say they can't draw well, are the ones who blow your mind. There are these two girls I know in my class, both of whom are so creative and such good artists but they are very lowkey about it. That's very sweet and humble of them.
Omg I went to school for interior design, and it was so awkward bc the people who could draw the best always said this. I’m actually not good at drawing (I do a lot better with digital renders). So it was always so awkward when someone would ask to see what I was working on and I’d say I wasn’t very good and they expected me to be the humble drawing prodigy, and then it was actually bad 😂😭
Yeah, I did a short drawing class a few years ago back in about 2011, full of real artsy types then there was this one guy who said he worked in a lumber yard and he was never a decent artist, he was just doing it for fun cos he had taken some vacation days he had saved up.
At one point we were given an easel, some paper, some charcoal and a mirror and told to do self portraits. Pretty much everyone did these really realistic self portraits except this guy.
The teacher called the class over cos the teacher had said the same thing you did, that the ones who say they can't draw are the ones who'll surprise you the most. This guy's self portrait was hard, angular, the shadows were all pitch black, it looked more like some kinda... I really don't know what but, if I had to describe it in a word. It was imposing. Like it wasn't just presenting itself, it was demanding your attention if that makes sense?
This dude said he hadn't drawn anything since he was a child, the first ever self portrait he'd ever done was that.
I think it's because experienced artists take inspiration from others and subconsciously copy them while people who "can't draw" develop their own style as they go, as if in an inspirational vacuum where they just let it happen.
I think artists (including me) focus on what to draw instead of drawing. Alot of young artist think they need 70 photo references from every possible angle plus 5 action figures of the character they want to draw. But the people who say that they can't draw are the ones that just draw.
I think they say they are not an artist because they don't focus on what other artist focus on like anatomy. When they fuck up they make the drawing something else, when the anatomy is incorrect they make the mistake their own and make it unique.
It's truly inspiring because my routine of drawing includes funny little doodles that I show to my friends and a study on every part of the human body.
In the arts/general creative problem solving skills
I am not very good at thing
always translates to
lol do you even know how much better some people are at thing
like, nobody has a better idea of how far an incremental 5,000 hours of practice would go than somebody who's done the first 5,000 lol
It's this. 100% this. As a professional in an art field, It's this lmao.
It ends up translating to really bad impostor symdrome as well. Then burn out and anxiety.
while people who "can't draw" develop their own style as they go, as if in an inspirational vacuum where they just let it happen.
I wasn't expecting sound, Lynda Barry-level creative advice from a comment thread in starterpacks, but it's a pleasant surprise.
I knew a great artist that claimed she couldn’t draw in middle school. Then I found out it was because her parents said she couldn’t draw and her art sucked. Her parents were so wrong and seemed to be assholes about their kids’ interests in general (I found out they also said negative stuff about her siblings’ interests.)
This is the nicest thing someone said about this starter pack :3
