Sources: LeBron James staying with Lakers on $104M deal
BasketballWell yeah HIRE MY SON OR ELSE seems to work
Brony EARNED that on his own! JJ said so in his hostage video/press conference lol
If other guys want to be in the league so bad, then why haven’t they tried being LeBron’s son? Work smarter, not harder.
Is 40 too old to be adopted? Asking for a friend.
Might as well claim to be Lebron's long lost brother at that point.
I behave like a 12 year old if that helps. You know…Nintendo, hula hoops, Porkymon cards. All that stuff.
Delonte West got confused. Tried to be his dad.
I heard JJs going on vacation. He's leaving a Redick bobblehead in charge that has a recording of him saying, "What do you think we should do, Lebron?".
First bobblehead in history to be fired.
Thanks for the chuckle.
They botched the last hiring which wasn’t his first choice now then went all in with JJ his pick and his son.
Yea, because his stats are so AMAZING! "average 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists"
he's a late bloomer
Podcast*
Crazy Hurley didn’t want to go there too huh?
It's amazing what hard work and grit can get youb
Only when you're LeBron.
Wade got real close after buying into ownership lol
It would be so much funnier if he left after they drafted Bronny
My Little Brony
Sounds like LeBron actually pulled a $111.9M deal.
LeBron out there hustlin' to earn enough money to buy the team and change the name to LeKers
As a Minnesotan, I welcome the long overdue name change.
The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles, where there are no lakes.
The Jazz moved to Salt Lake City, where they don't allow music.
I look forward to when their NHL team debuts their new name during the 2025-2026 season.
Utah Disco.
I love that this reference is becoming so obscure. It’s a great reminder of how old I’m getting 😂
Thinking the exact same thing.
The Oakland Raiders moved to LA and then back to Oakland because no one seemed to care.
We need them to update the narration to add the movie to Vegas because people still didn't care
The Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee, where there is no oil.
The Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore, where there is no Cleveland.
The Calgary Flames are named after a big fire in Atlanta.
Ownership naming the team after the fire is nuts. More teams should adopt the policy. I want to watch the San Francisco Earthquakes take on the New Orleans Katrinas (Carolina Hurricanes being in Raleigh feels like a cop out). Give me the Boston Massacres against the New York 9/11s.
The Hiroshima Nukes could play fucking quidditch and I would never miss a game.
The Dresden Firestorm should win the Bundesliga every year.
Silver lake
There's always one guy who doesn't get it
Make that 2, what's the joke lol
They don't even have water anymore...
Hey now, we have potholes large enough to be considered lakes when it rains!
Latrell said I got a family to feed. Lebron said I got a family to sign onto the team.
Lekker is a South African term meaning Great lol.
It's a Dutch term for great/delicious. Makes sense because the Boers (farmers in Dutch) were from the Netherlands.
It's Dutch. Afrikaans is (more or less) a dialect of Dutch.
What were the Dutch doing in Africa… oh… right nvm
I believe it’s “lecker” in German too
Nice one.
Gonna be interesting to see what the value of the lakers is after the Celtics sale which will likely set records.
Negative - LeGM signed a contract for 111m for the James family 💪🏾
Being good enough to earn a max deal at 40 years old is just bonkers lol
$52M a year at 40 as an NBA player is wild
At that level of the food chain, you don't get what you deserve; you get what you negotiate.
It’s crazy how many people don’t realize this. In life the highest paid people are rarely the best at the job. They are the best at negotiating or having someone do it for them.
Except lebron is still literally one of the best at his job…… does everyone in this chat just see his age and not watch him actually play? Lebron is very much still a superstar on the court
He's definitely declined, and I understand that some people don't think he's worth the money on talent alone...but talent alone doesn't sell tickets and jerseys and draw viewers. For that you need star power, and LeBron is the biggest star in the NBA.
He went 25/7/8 last year. That’s very much on par with other players making that sort of money. He declined from his old self, but not from the league standard of elite
“Oh yeah I used to be one of the best to ever do it. Now I’m just one of the best in the league 22 years later” like tf people out here acting like he fell off. A bad LBJ night is better than any night Bronny will see.
Right if there weren’t caps he would earned even more at his peak
If someone think he doesn’t deserve the max deal even on talent alone just based on his production from last season, they do not know a single thing about basketball.
Yeah, sure. LeBron isn’t one of, if not the best players available.
Dork lol
His job is to help sell tickets and merch and contribute to the bottom line financially. Pretty sure he is still one of the best at that. How good you at basketball are is secondary to that.
I don’t know much about the CBA. But in most other industries, employees like him usually negotiate a share of profits or of the company.
26/7/8 at 40 is wild too
I have to wonder inside the Lakers Org, how they weighed all of this - performance, marketing, etc.
Everything has a price tag.
His oncourt performance is still top 10 and at max contract level. Everything else is extra.
The amount of sheer revenue LeBron brings in must outweigh not being as competitive, and wasting a draft pick on his son.
4th to last pick in the entire draft.
Surely they missed out on the elusive next generational talent instead.
Not like taking anyone else available at that point in the draft would make them more competitive
Chill on draft pick nonsense. Not like second rounders regularly become stars or anything anyway
Are you telling me Nikola Jokics don’t just grow in second rounds?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k6DmZwxr4k
Is a great analysis. His draft pick is already basically a wash. Any contribution in the NBA would already be a bonus.
People are coming at this like it's the NFL where 2nd round draft picks are a big deal.
It’s hard to waste a 55th overall pick lmao let’s be serious
Lebron Derangement Syndrome
Suddenly second round picks in a weak draft year are the most valuable commodities in basketball.
Whaat? Do you watch basketball? He’s 100% deserving of the money regardless of all that.
They're just trying to make money. They're 100% not trying to win
Yep, want to keep LeBron a laker through retirement, and get the ticket sale boosts of his farewell tour in a year or two.
It's not even about that, it's about securing LeBron in his retirement. They want him to be remembered as and present himself as a Laker first.
As someone who doesn't follow the sport at all and is therefore pretty casual, I just can't imagine him being remembered as a Laker. It feels like I've heard less about him since he moved there then I ever did before. If I think of him, I always imagine him as a Cavalier.
I say that early stuff not to say I'm correct or the normal person at all, just from where my perspective is.
This comment and the person you’re replying to just proves some of you all on this sub do not know a single thing about basketball.
Not sure if you have watched the playoffs the past two years, but LeBron isn’t the reason they can’t get past the nuggets dog. Any team would pay LeBron.
Right? lmao what a braindead take. There are few teams in the league who wouldnt want LeBron if they could have him. He is still a top 10-15 player at this point.
100 percent. He’s literally the only player on that team that cooks us in the playoffs. He carries. DLo and Austin Reeves are super inconsistent, and AD seems like the most inconsistent of them all. Dude can’t stop Jokic on any play and he’s their “top 75 all time” big. It ain’t LeBron fault.
yea jokic’s rim protection is bbq chicken for lebron, a shame no one else can shoot the mf basketball
Jersey sales
So, are Bron and Bronny gonna shower together in the locker room? Cause that can get weird.
If they do it at home I don’t see why it’s a big deal at work
How do you know what they do at home??
Step father what are you doing?
P Diddy’s account
It’s P Diddy
Haha these dudes have their own showers at this level. It's not one giant shower for all 😂
Born and bronny like to share
Wasn't aware
For real. I can’t remember the last time I was in a gym where it was a bunch of dudes in a giant shower room
LeBron will do the old dad and baby shower… picks Bronny up by the waist and dunks his butt in the shower stream… and then they both giggle.
This belongs in /r/wholesome
Is it any more weird than taking shower with a dozen strangers? Surely it’s big enough for them not to be standing side by side. Not sure why this comes up so much.
They spent their entire life taking showers with other men around them. Surely this isn’t that big of a deal
Why am I thinking about Airplane! after reading this comment?
Bronny be exposed to his origins daily
My gym at work has separate showers. I'd imagine an NBA team can afford to have individual shower stalls.
If you've played any team sports where there are group showers involved, you'd understand that it's not weird in the slightest. You've been showering with your teammates for 10+ years. It's just another teammate you are showering with.
Source: played hockey for over 25 years and have played with my dad a ton of times.
Wasn't the report he would take less then the max?
If the Lakers sign one of the top free agents. They didn't get anyone.
But I heard they got a steal of a draft pick
Yeah, they stole a roster spot from someone that deserves it
Can you name a single player that got drafted 55 in the last 10 years
Honestly I know this joke is about Bronny but Knecht falling to 17 when he was projected top 8 is a steal for them
If the Lakers got a premiere free agent with the mid level exception.
Hit him with the ole LeFuckYouPayMe
James passes to James who looks at Davis and passes it back to James. He pulls up for a jumper and passes to James.
LeSon
Lakers are about to show us that even a slightly above average basketball player(Bronny), with enough time and money, may be able to play in the NBA. LeBron should have waited until his kid was ready. Strong armed the Lakers in the sense that the Lakers want a big legacy story to call back to and beef up their lore and sales. It is so weird seeing this much visibility in NBA politics
He has a heart condition. I’m more worried that we will see this kid die on the court on national television
I used to think this but Eriksen (Manchester United soccer player) collapsed a few years ago and I thought that was it for him. But he was cleared to play, and he’s been one of the best danish players since.
Brony will get clowned hard next season, all the other rookies will make sure of it.
No home team-you hired my son-and friend as coach discount, but hey they just selling tickets, jerseys, and t-shirts now anyway so I guess it doesn’t matter. 💰
1/10th of that and I’d retire today.
i’d advise you wait until the end of the year. if you retire today, you won’t see a penny of it.
How much of that is Bronny getting?
$7.9 million
Which is the standard second round pick exception. 57th and 58th pick last year both got the same thing. Maxwell Lewis (last year Lakers second rounder) got the exact same contract on July 9th.
No idea why i am being downvoted for posting facts about the same contract given to people around the same pick.
Absolutely bonkers such a low pick gets so much money. Nba money is insanity
It's a 4 year deal, so just shy of 2m a year which in the grand scheme of the NBA is basically spare change at this point.
LeTeam Friendly
would have been funny if he had taken a deal from another team and Bronny was left to his own devices.
Why? I like lebron but.. why? That much money can be spent to rebuild, not resign him just so we can say OH HE GOT TO PLAY WITH HIS SON, and still not make it past the 1st round in the playoffs.
It means you won’t be seeing the lakers win anything until Lebron is gone.
Treating their superstars well is how the Lakers get their next superstar. They made Kobe the highest paid player in the league when he was washed, that was when they secured LeBron.
People forget how awful the Lakers were, the year Kobe retired. I remember because tickets for Lakers at Blazers went from being super cheap to being sold out, within hours of Kobe announcing his retirement, as people wanted to see his last game in Portland.
lol no. its called hollywood
They were an above average team last year with an injury decimated roster and one of the worst coaches in the league.
Don’t waste your breath brother, this sub prides itself in knowing nothing about the sports they like discussing
LeGreedy
LeFleecer
What a joke. MJ never blackmailed a team to get his bum of a son on an NBA team. If this is your GOAT, I feel bad for you.
Maybe MJ was too busy getting his dad murdered over gambling debts.
Dammmmn! You escalate harder than Otis.
Lebron is about to get his son’s reputation murdered because of his hubris
lebricarus
Jesus dude, warn me next time before you kill a man.
This guy remembers!
That argument goes both ways… this guy is so good that a team would sign his mediocre son just to keep him at age 40.
Speaking of, how were Michael’s numbers when he turned 40?
1-0 vs the Monstars.
I know you're trying to sort of shit on Jordan here, but he did play 15 seasons. He didn't have an age 40 season but he did have an age 39 season on a god awful Wiz team and put up 20ppg, 4apg, and 5rpg in 02-03 which ain't too shabby at all.
Sure, he did fine, but the argument that Lebron shouldn't be considered the GOAT because he "blackmailed" the team into drafting his son is not a sensible argument. The reality is Lebron is still a superstar caliber player in the NBA at 40 years old and is notably better at 40 than MJ was at 39. MJ was 20/4/5 on 45% shooting and 29% from three compared to Lebron last season at 26/8/7 on 54% shooting and 41% from three. Lebron played 71 games of the season to Jordan's 67.
I'm not trying to be a Lebron fanboy or anything but his performance and the stats don't lie and what he does outside of the game is irrelevant. We've never seen a player play this good for this long (entering his 21st season), it's unprecedented (still top 15 PPG and top 5 APG). Not saying definitively that one player had a better career than another, but in the aspect of raw longevity, Lebron is unmatched and I think the guy you replied to was trying to point that out - the stats are worth the max contract (though obviously short term due to age).
Since you’re here, why were Jordan’s steals and block numbers 82% higher at home vs away during his DPOY season? And why does the nba refuse to go back and verify the stats, despite all of his game footage being readily available?
Great question…for the NBA. I don’t work for the NBA. Tweet at them.
🤔🤔🤔… Great point.
I think all of his kids were too young but Jordan wanted to win so bad .. I don’t think he would put his kid on team and take a valuable roster spot. LeBron is happy just being in LA and making hundreds of millions ( including endorsements).
Yea, so how does that compare to his Lebron’s son who can’t play? Did Phil Jackson loose the ability to successfully coach at some point or is he in the HOF as a coach? I’m confused, help me clear that up.
You mean he agreed to stay on the team that drafted his son, hired the coach he wanted, and offered him millions of dollars??? Might as well call them the LA Lebrons
Welcome to the shitshow! - Lakers
They should rename the Lakers to the Brons.
my sources confirmed
Had the chance to do the funniest thing possible and blew it.
The ball isn’t the only thing that bounces
They should both be playing with the Cavaliers. You should never forget his roots.
Draft Bronny and I’ll stay, otherwise see ‘ya! No nepotism though. Totally earned being drafted.
Wasn't the report he would take less then the max
Yeah if they could use that money to land a premier free agent. Laker management swung out on all of them so no paycut for Bron.
The guy doesn't seem to age. At some point this guy will regress
and the world is in complete and utter shock!
No shit
Lol
Loyalist
To be a fly on the wall during those negotiations. Wonder what the starting ask was and their first offer.
Gonna be fighting for the play in for 2 more years
