Dibu Martinez consoling Ecuador's goalkeeper after shootout
Media100% agree, Villa took a crazy risk and it's worked out, he made immediate impact when he joined but Emery took him to another level, Arsenal and Arteta at the time didn't really had that luxury to take that risk though, Leno and later Ramsdale were better choice at the time for sure.
Leno was (and still is) a good keeper, and backing him over Dibu made sense given the difference in resume and experience.
I really don't think Ramsdale was a better choice over Dibu tho—not then and certainly not now.
But it's really a moot point because Arteta realized Ramsdale's deficiencies and brought in Raya (who is genuinely good IMO)
I do think Ramsdale 2020/2021 is better than Emi 2019/2020 but yeah I think Ramsdale wasn't really a good shotstopper, Leno has quite a few brainfart moments over the course of season and that's probably why Arteta replaced him.

Better at distribution, perhaps
He was significantly worse at shot stopping and dealing with aerials tho
