Tallest Building Under Construction in Toronto Suburban Municipalities
I was under the impression that Mississaugans riot if you try to build anything taller than a single family home there? Their council recently voted down a proposed residential high rise cluster over frivolous, clearly NIMBY, concerns. How’d they get approval for this in NIMBYland?
This is located in Mississauga City Centre which doesn't have a height limit. Also M3 will become the tallest building outside of Toronto proper in Canada.
I don't know the example you're talking about, but if City staff recommend a building for approval and council votes against it, the Developer would usually send it to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT). Most of the time, if it's not a ridiculous proposal, it would get approved at the OLT; it only really delays construction.
Also, as far as I know, most city council members are fine with Mississauga City Centre. If they did reject the proposal of M3, it will go to the OLT and get approved since, in the official plan, Mississauga City Center does not have a height requirement unless it fails in sewer capacities and other factors.
