Riviera Nayarit end of July/Early August

Very very humid and hot in July and August. And June and September. Guadalajara would not be a trip I’d take in July/August. Once it was 49°c (120°f) there during a heat wave 👀) I moved to the mountains in San Sebastián (about an hour east fr the coast) bc of the daunting summers at the beach. If you’re used to humidity maybe you won’t be bothered. I met a guy from New Orleans who was ok with it bc he said the humidity didn’t bother him. I’m a Californian and couldn’t handle it. Lying in the shade near water was about it.

I'm hoping that 49°c is a rarity and not something seen regularly! Surprised as googling the weather in Guadalajara around that time showed <30°c (ignoring feels like/humidity). But then not surprised if the google results are way off.

We're fixed on August unfortunately as it's our only availability for time off, aware that it will be mightily humid, which is not my preference but recently survived Vietnam in similar humid conditions so we'll make it work!

Any tips on the towns would be most welcome!

Yes. 49° was a heat wave. You might enjoy a day trip to San Sebastián either on your way to Guadalajara or even overnight. It’s cooler/drier. A change up. It’s been almost 10 yrs since I lived there so Id not recommend anyplace. Also do the botanical gardens south of PV if you can.

Thank you! We have San Sebastián in our list to explore but hadn’t considered an overnight stay as not many had mentioned doing that. Will take a look!

Lo de Marcos will have a few bars open, but not a lot of variety. Places will shift to being open on days when they feel like it, vs regular schedules. The gringo bar, Endless Summer is always open. The beach bars and restaurants ike Oscars and Pez Vela close pretty early during the dummer but were open last July. LDM has the best beach out of all three, imo. Maybe stay there then take a cab to Sayulita for more food variety and night life one of the days. Rent a place with a pool if you can. *edit* The towns are 15 minutes from each other BTW so a quick ride or bus. Spend a day at each one if you want. San Pancho isn't so quiet and little anymore, beautiful sunsets but the ocean break is too strong for most folks to swim in.

Thank you this is really great info! I’m leaning more to LDM or San Pancho, as you said you can always taxi to to Sayulita or San Pancho for more variety and make more better use of LDM beach.

Self prescription? I get it from my doc. If you ask them for a preventative script they will give it to you …… do you live in 1940?

It’ll be a little slower in both LDM and San Pancho but plenty will be open, especially in San Pancho. Neither have a “nightlife” but the taxi or bus to sayulita is easy. It will be hot and humid with hopefully rain at night but is my favorite time of year. It’s a lovely part of Mexico with the best people, you’ll have a great time.
