I’ve been told that I’m overqualified in the food industry which is stupid, I don’t know why I added that to my post, it’s irrelevant. I’m just looking for a fast food job at the moment since it’s the easiest thing to get but even that it’s hard to get in my area, I’m getting my hopes up for any seasonal positions but man, I just feel like I’ve never tried so hard
Cruise to a bunch of the restaurants around the area. There are a lot of them looking for bus boys or servers and stuff. I have seen a lot of help wanted especially due to the fact that there are a shit-ton of garbage employees. Maybe check out a couple of the In-N-Out locations. I hear that they're pretty good to work for.
I’ve worked at in n out before but some of the stores I’ve been to, tell me that they want to give first job opportunities to younger candidates, I’m just 19 they make me feel like I’m super old😭
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe It's illegal to discriminate based on age js
Yeah, I don't think In-N-Out would want a lawsuit as such.
I was looking into that and you’re right, I might have to take a case to the labor commissioner office then, thanks for your comment!!
The law on age discrimination applies to candidates over 40.
Rafael's Party Rentals will hire just about anyone. Not exactly a career advancement, but it will put a little money in your pocket while you keep looking.
Thanks for your comment
What kind of work are you looking for?
I’ve got adult kids your age and they told me the same. Then they finally caved in, listened to what I was saying all along, and started applying 20-30 jobs a day and also gave up on just doing it online and started going door to door at shopping areas and restaurants. One got hired 4 days later, another is on 2nd round of interviews. The third is still pissing away his summer sleeping in and playing video games while “looking” for a job by going online for 1 hour a day.
oh yeah I’m doing the same thing as your kids, it just feels very humiliating but I’ll keep on trying, thanks for the comment
Unfortunately California, I believe, has the highest unemployment rate in the country right now. Best of luck to you. BTW try SeaWorld if you haven’t. Problem is these big places have slow hiring processes.
You’re only 19! What type of jobs are you applying for? SDPD is begging for people to join. You’re very young so I’m not sure how you can be overqualified.
I know I’m not overqualified but I have been told that, I’d join the SDPD but since I plan to save up money to then join the Air Force it doesn’t really align with my plan, thanks for your help, I forgot to add that I’m a college student
why save money to join the air force? Can't you just join?
I just want to have an emergency fund just in case, you never know
In case of what? The armed forces don’t do layoffs.

I don’t wanna be dead broke without a dollar to my name when I join, I just want to save up for my own security
Keep trying and keep applying young man. Try restaurants like In N Out. Stores like Aldi. Try your luck with express/temp agencies they usually have a variety of work in different areas. Be open to any work that pays be it restaurants, cleaning, and etc...
I worked at in n out before but now that I applied again, I have to beg for them just to check my application, thanks for your comment
USAJobs.
A lot of federal jobs and federal apprenticeships in SD. You’ll never be rich but you’ll always have work. I got denied for 6 years before I landed a gig so it’s part of the process.
That’s true, I’ve been trying for many years to get a job at Las Colinas, that’s the woman’s prison in Santee
There is a new Chick-fil-A going to open soon in the shopping center that Trader Joe’s is in in La Jolla UTC area That’s gonna pay $20 an hour, I think it’s worth taking a look at, good luck to you
Here is a preview of the interview that they do
thanks for the help!

I’m so thankful for your advice, stay blessed man🙏
Check out project engineer positions at general and subcontracting companies. A lot of school projects are starting because school is out and construction companies can use the help.
Thanks for the help
When I was 18 I worked at the front desk at the gym, try 24 hour fitness or any local gym (YMCA)
thank you, I’ve worked that position before
How many jobs have you had if you’re only 19? If you are constantly in and out of jobs that’s a red flag.
Try hotels start small with valet, stewarding positions or even servers. Some will even a paid internship program that ay assist you
Have someone other than close friend look over your resume- make a copy and just remove identifiable info and have it reviewed and redone to give it more exposure. Don't give up man
Check out The Bahia Hotel, Catamaran Resort or Lodge at Torrey Pines... They're all currently in heavy need of many different types of positions for the summer season and if you perform well you can probably stay on after summer.
That’s great advice, thank you
i applied to the zoo for multiple positions and received a callback within 10 days!!
ive been looking for jobs left and right for months there is hope!!!!!
Thanks for your comment!
could always further your education. that will open more doors for you.
I’m currently in college, thanks for the advice
yeah. unfortunately, many jobs out there even if you are entry want lots of experience or a bachelor's degree. I'm on the same boat in a sense, finding work after some stuff has been a tad difficult. but hope is still alive.
Try apply in the hospitals, they take entry level and it’s really good benefits and once you’re in the hospital you can transfer to other departments
Sdccd or San Diego city college

Keep charging it. You're wayyyyyy too young to be over it. If they're telling you that you're overqualified, I'm curious as to what industry, because, being realistic, you don't have that many years of work unless I'm wrong.
There is work out there. I had to go door to door in restaurant row in San Marcos when I was 15 to find a job. It took a while, but I got one.
What do you do? What are you looking for?
