Announcement About "Boost" CommentsMOD POST

Hi guys! We've been having a lot of trouble with users mass reporting the super common 'boost' comments. The majority of the reports are meritless, but we would like to address one particular issue that we've come across:

Replying to a post multiple times to 'boost' it doesn't actually work (we would love if it did ☹️).

The Reddit algorithm measures comment engagement by the number of individual users commenting, not by the total number of comments overall. That means a user is counted once, even if they comment multiple times.

(I suspect that it has something to do with ad revenue.)

It's also worth noting that Reddit is more likely to categorize a post as spam if they think the associated comments are, well, 'spammy'. That means the post won't be promoted, let alone make it to the Reddit front page. This is the exact opposite of what we want for our posts. The doggos need to be seen if they're going to be rescued!

In short, one "boost!" is great and actually contributes to boosting the post. Duplicate comments, not so much.

*Note: This 'one per post only' rule only applies to 'boost' comments, nothing else.

Here is the format for Euth postsMOD POST

We apologize for the confusion, our formatting rules weren't as clear as we meant them to be. They've been updated and I will post them here as a pinned post.

Format:

•No emojis. •Please include the CW Euthanasia flair •Include the dog's names. •Include the dog's location (city, state, name of shelter/rescue). •Include the dog's date of Euthanasia (If you don't have one, don't post. We need a date so we know when to remove the post. We remove old Euth posts to keep the sub as organized as possible. This organization helps keep the sub as effective as possible when it comes to helping these doggos).

•You can include a little info about the dog and their situation, but keep it short and simple. •Any other info that you feel is relevant can be included in a comment on your post. If you'd like that comment to be pinned at the top of your post, please message the mods.

•Don't crosspost from other subs unless you format the title correctly when you post. •Rescuing dogs is a wonderful interest, but be reasonable about how many posts you make on this sub. Posting something like a dozen dogs back to back in one day is Mass Posting and it isn't allowed.

•To post more than a few dogs in one day, group the dogs into one post (3-6 dogs per post is a good baseline). Make sure every dog is in the same location and has the same Euth deadline. This is so that your post's title is able to comply with our format requirement. (If each dog is in a different location and has a different Euth date, your title will be a mess of confusing information, right?). Use each dog's photo to make a collage, and make a comment on your post with extra information. To pin it at the top, contact the mods.

*Please follow these rules. You can include a little info about the dogs and their situation, but only after including the above.

If an example is needed, please see posts from /u/biancamission. Crossposted dogs failing to meet criteria will be removed.*

We Rescued a Sick Stray Is She Ours?Advice

I have not posted much at all so please forgive any mistakes. I haven't slept much in days.

Background - I moved to a rural area a few years ago and I am appalled at the attitude of some people here when it comes to pets. I can't say any more or I may be banned. Several times since we moved here we have come across animals who just appear at our door or over at the nearby playground. Mostly it has been cats. The 2 dogs were easier to place with homes.

We had a full house up until February so we usually found homes or worked with a no-shelter. No judgement but people need to realize it's cruel to dump animals like this.

There was a stray Beagle who appeared in a sparcely populated area (30 or more acres between houses). The person who fed her for almost a month (but didn't take her in much and she ran off a few times) posted her to social media and contacted everyone within 5 miles and nobody claimed her. We saw the post a while ago and kept our eye on it. They couldn't keep her (the dog was in heat and didn't want puppies and she just didn't want another dog) and was thrilled that we wanted to try. The little Beagle warmed up to us pretty quickly. We loved her instantly.

She was taken to the vet and had a full check up, including an ultrasound. She was very underweight, her nails were ground down from gravel and the road. She was covered in ticks and had worms and an infection and she is getting better. It was worth the money even though we are not rolling in it. I am sick most of the time but not terminal so I am home with her full time.

She is getting spayed soon. My question feels really silly but I have done my own image search, social media search and between me and the person who fed her we checked the store bulletin boards. There was no chip, so, is she really mine? She seems to love it here. I know she is not used to being inside. She didn't even know how to walk through a door or go up a step. Now, she has gotten the hang of getting up on the couch and seems so happy.

Maybe I am naive but I just can't wrap my head around how this sweet dog was so neglected. I adore her. My fear is someone will somehow try to claim her, even though it's been over a month.

She was seriously infested with worms and so skinny, wasn't spayed so it is clear she hadn't been cared for in a very long time. She looks to be under 5 years old.

She is going to be a house dog even though we have many acres. She is being leash trained and loves her walks. Her health safety is our #1 concern. I refuse to give her up to someone who did this to her. Am I wrong? Has anyone ever taken in a neglected stray?

Gavino from MexicoRescue Success!

My mother said no more dogs after we lost our two Jack Russell Terriers. She was adamant we weren't getting another.

Meet Gavino lol
