I’m a wedding planner in Austin, and I actually had the same company who does their bird show bring an owl to be a ring bearer out to my venue last year! It was SO cool.

Drink: Best options are at The Lionheart, 3 Stags, and the Trip [Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem]

If you have kids or are kids adjacent, take them to the Juggers Field in the afternoon and let them beat the crap out of the Juggers. ^{^{^Sorry}} ^{^{^Nox}}

Love Jerusalem Cafe, much better hummus than TRF's Agora's hummus.

Honostly don't enjoy their pub sing as much as TRF's, but its just a different feel. To me Sherwoods feels like the camp counselors singing a bunch of songs at the closing campfire while TRF's feels like a party, not my thing but I know people enjoy it.

I've been a part of Sherwood's pub sing for the last 10 years, and I've had mixed feelings the last year or so.

I try to think of the positives and remember why I love it.

Anything in particular about it that's causing the mixed feelings? For me at TRF Bone's Last Call show is becoming more fun than TRF's Pub Sing as it's gotten over crowded the past couple years

Sherwood regular since it opened.

The best thing about Sherwood vs TRF is that Sherwood is a fair to relax and enjoy, big enough to get lost in, small enough to see and do everything in day. You don't have to rush, you can sit and chill in a pub or people watch a while without missing out on seeing the whole fair. I think the atmosphere is the best among the fairs I've been to, which is quite a few, people just aren't as freaking stressed as they are at TRF with 45K though the gate on a Saturday.

The owner is very invested in his fair, in fact the King you will see out there, including fighting at the castle siege, is George, the owner. He is actually REALLY cool if you roleplay with him briefly.

Old Potato Road (the main entrance) is not paved and can get backed up on a busy day with good weather, go early, don't wash your car before going. I mean 30-45 minute backup, not 3 freaking hours like some fairs. If you camp, you don't have to worry about it.

Don't drink and drive, Bastrop County doesn't play.

Finally, kind of an insider thing and a little personal to me, which is why I'm mentioning it. You will see young trees throughout the fair, many of them decorated with little baubles, charms, ribbons, etc. They are memorial trees, planted to honor someone who has passed on and messing with or taking the decorations is really bad form. It happens, people do sometimes because they don't know better, I'm just throwing it out there because it is one of the few unadvertised taboos at Sherwood and more people should know.

It's a great energy and vibe, good shopping & craftspeople. The Mediterranean place (someone help with name?) Is my fav, they have more vegetarian options than most. We'll be there every weekend, I'll (30m) be a crow witch vibe & my husband (47m) will be in a green tunic and lovely brown leather vest. Feel free to say hi, I always carry little gifts for folks. This year will probably be bracelets.

Silk Road Road also has a great selection, and the Highland Bakery is my other favorite.

We got season passes this year so we're excited to go both days every weekend and try all the wonderful things!

I hope it's a great season for you! If you enjoy camping, I highly recommend camping on site a weekend too. I've been doing it for 8 years (I go every weekend), and it's such a great time.

I am curious if you know, does the “no outside food/drinks” rule apply to camelbaks and/or water bottles?

Yup, and they are ...assertive about it. Asked me to lift my cape and turn to check for bottles. I said no but they seem pretty adamant.

Agree with water, especially in texas. They responded to my email and said that empty bottles can be brought in and filled in the restrooms. So, i’m going to try to and bring an empty bottle and see how it goes. This feels like a policy that depends on which employee you get at the gate lol.

Probably true, some are there for the vibes and some kill the vibe lol. Husband and I always go to a certain gate attendee if she's there, she's a sweet heart.

The queen bee mead (If i recall the name correctly) was my personal favorite!

I always love jousting as a show, but the washing wench show is definitely a favorite for most people

The bird show is cool. You can do a walk-through their habitat after the show and see them up close, as well.

You can do mixes on places that have the mead on tap. I'm a fan of the Adult Chocolate Milk, but they have other options.

The Glass Blowing demonstrations are terrific! Way more interesting than the TRF one.

Go to the last show of Opal and Jade is you like raunchy music. Washing Well Wenches is amazing too. Clan Tinker! The fire show Solar Reign(sp?) is great too.

I don't have any suggestions that haven't been said, but I want to say have SO much fun! Sherwood's vibes are so good. The "big enough to stay busy small, enough to be relaxed" thing is really really true. Camp if you can! The camping is a little less "organized" than other faires I think, a bit more "woodsy" I guess?

I'm far away from TX now but Sherwood is something I'll miss dearly. There's just nothing quite like it.
