Ive been saying that we need a summer christmas/new years. Kids get summer vacation off but working people should have a week off in the summer and a holiday season where its acceptable to take 2 or even 3 weeks off if you want.
We should like, extend 4th of july into a whole week of celebration. People could do renenactments of the declaration of independence being read and dress up and embrace colonial powdered wig pilgrim energy. I know thanksgiving is our opportunity for that sort of, but no one puts that much energy into thanksgiving (besides the meal) with christmas right around the corner. Also the weird native stuff on thanksgiving can make it uncomfortable whereas americans from both sides of the aisle can get behind celebrating the british losing.

American culture flattens and commodifies. Basically why even within England there’s very little debate about celebrating Christmas or collectively mourning when the Queen died. In America because we associate July 4th now with commodified vacations and bigger and bigger fireworks displays at large venues we’ve lost the community building aspect of the holiday.

If anything we need more holidays. EG we could adopt Walpurgisnacht as a second Halloween. More widespread observation of Candlemas since February is a depressing month. I always felt May Day was under-celebrated in the USA too.
