We dont care what he wants, he’s getting paid 8M. If he doesnt want it then fine dont go
Guy I used to work with in NYC took the train in from Philly everyday and probably made a 50th of what Trouba does.
thats brutal
how long did he do that
i guess if u can make a productive use of ur time not so bad, but he probably had a family in philadelfia
He did it for around 4 years. And yeah, he did it because he had a mother who was ill.
Really admirable of him to do that, also was one of the hardest working people in the office.
If he took the acela amtrak train, many of those trips are actually no longer than train from Ronkonkoma to Penn station that many of everyday commuters take (about an hour and 15 mins.)
I wonder if we know the same guy lol, not just commute into manhattan, had to take a train to BK after getting to Penn
BuT hIs wIfE iS a 6 MoNtH oLd bAbY DoCtOR!!!!!!
I do legitimately feel bad that his wife has to probably deal with shit from fans but we have to move Trouba…
As someone who makes a 50th of what Trouba does, I would not do this.
I wish Trouba would do long distance the way he does when covering a man.
He could take the Trouba Train /s
If Trouba wanted to cement his spot here, he should've played better. End of story.
Or simply bow out for a few weeks at the end of the regular season to heal before the playoffs. As admirable as it is to play through an injury, nobody cares if your play suffers because of it
this… only legit comment in here.
Or taken less money for a full NMC for the entirety of his contract.
I'm sorry trouba but maybe if you didn't suck balls and make relentlessly stupid decisions all game costing us huge in the playoffs this wouldn't be happening to you
People don't even remember that it was his wrong play that caused us to lose the 4th time against Florida.
This is way too involved in someone’s personal life.
Jesus this sub has been so toxic. You would think that trouba is the only reason that the rangers have not won and that he is absolutely hated by the fans, and the team. Youd also think that he is the worst person to ever play hockey
Some shades of mob mentality going on
Fandoms on Reddit in general have been super unhinged and embarrassing, it feels like it’s gotten progressively worse since COVID.
I think the line should be drawn when ppl start talking about players families and personal business…idk but what if at your job all the customers just started saying they absolutely hate you bc you had 1 shit day at ur job and u don’t deserve minimum wage idk just seems ppl r making this too personal
Not for nothing, but people treat minimum wage workers like that all the time.
Yea, and they shouldn't. I think everyone who isn't an asshole can agree that you shouldn't treat anyone like that if they're just trying to do their job.
This isn’t 1 shit day. This is getting a very low rating on your annual performance review and you make the most in your department. He’s supposed to act like the lead not the intern.
Tbh, he’s been declining since he signed this contract that we’re trying to offload. Outside of monster hits and being a leader, which is important, not denying that, he hasn’t been great at actually defending since he came here.
He's also likely the team's best shot blocker. Not enough to make up for all the problems at his cost though.
Wouldnt have to block all those shots if he did defense work and stopped them from taking so many shots in the first place
This def shouldve been handled more promptly in a way that wouldve prevented all the media from dragging this out and making it an anti trouba story. I was him and my wife had a residency in ny i wouldnt want to leave either, rangers gotta bite their end if the bullet too and realize they committed to a contract that they may not be able to get out of, both sides played a role in this outcome, tbh it should not be getting this public.
i mean there is a reason Brooks got beat up at the bus a lot as a kid
i ask genuinely, who is publicizing trouba's discontent, his wife's work situation, their newborn child
his agent? trouba himself?
Larry Brooks started all this shit.
on what basis, tho
he wouldnt know about when her residency is ending without someone from trouba's camp feeding it to him
Her situation was public info, going back to when he was named captain, if not before. See this from 2022: https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/34782596/redirected/trueTickets
the precise end date of her residency is not public info
that's the trouba camp feeding it to brooks, or brooks finding out another way
I mean, he’s a reporter. It took me two Google searches to find out where her program is, what type of medicine she’s studying, and how long that program is at that hospital. I’m sure he could find it in one.
that does not preclude the trouba clan from using brooks as their mouthpiece to a sympathetic audience
You asked who’s publicizing it. It was already public. Brooks is the one who started all this shit on Sunday, and it’s not in his interest as a reporter to be wrong.
As to the question of why he’s dialing it back, IMO it’s in both Trouba’s and Drury’s interests. I don’t find the millionaire athlete who signed up for this lifestyle and is now whining about it particularly sympathetic, but some might, I guess. As for Drury, if he just couldn’t get it done, this is also a way to smooth things over PR-wise, perhaps, and potentially a peace offering to Trouba (“we won’t trade you while she’s still in residency as long as you let us say that we’re doing it for your family”).
IMO the whole thing is horseshit, this is a business and it should be treated as such, and we need that cap space.
why are you saying brooks is "starting shit" if he's conveying what trouba asks him to?
He can’t come back to the team next season. It’s not tenable.
If he comes back and plays great ok that would be ideal but I don’t see it
If his play deteriorates he loses any value he could possibly have had plus teams will have a harder time trying to fit him under their cap. Plus with all this drama I think it would be tough for him to recover knowing the fan base is willing to pounce. That cannot be a good spot for your captain. At this point, Rangers need to move on from Trouba if they have to eat salary or attach an asset. It’s not ideal but seems like we’re past the point of turning back.
I truly feel bad for Trouba and the family but he’s not the first nor will he be the last player to get uprooted. It does suck but it’s part of the business and should be treated as such.
Drury needs to stop pissing in the wind and wrap this up
All of you on the “fuck Trouba” train will probably be the first to complain when Igor or Laf don’t take a hometown discount.
Because this is a great way to make sure you don’t get one.
Igor ain’t coming with a number. He is coming to the table with a % and a “fuck you, it’s business” attitude.
He is coming to the table with a %
genuine question, is this a new way of doing comparables
or been the case since hardcap
this has been it ever since there has been a cap
that is how inflation works in the league. third liners are getting the contracts 2nd liners got 3-4 years ago
Not that I know of. I’m sure it’s discussed. How much you want to a lot for this player, etc.
But I think Igor will set the precedent with asking for a % of cap instead of a hard number.
Edit: I should probably say trend, not precedent.
They aren’t going to take any discounts anyway, gotta make tough decisions and Trouba is a pylon, great guy but we can’t afford to keep him
Because fans don’t like a player who hasn’t taken a home team discount? Who also cost the rangers at least 2 games in the eastern conference this year and 2 games in the eastern conference in 2022? Trouba has made millions of dollars being one of the worst players on the team. I don’t care what his wife is doing and Drury shouldn’t care either otherwise get rid of him as the GM. Troubas wife doesn’t come before the team. If Trouba is going to try and null any trade then we need to void the remainder of his contract.
Trouba also has that commercial he does with his mom to collect from.
Drury has to care about players families in these decisions if he ever wants to sign another professional athlete.
Let’s not pretend we’re the dynasty patriots here, players aren’t walking into a winning culture with guaranteed championships. They need reasons to want to come here outside of winning. Do you think they don’t discuss moves with their families?
I honestly wonder what world some of you live in.
This is a great point. It's been reported in the past that part of the Rangers' popularity for free agents is because of the support we offer their families. Tons of players have talked about how impactful it was that shortly after inking a deal, other players and other players' families were reaching out to make them feel welcome and help them navigate the transition to a new home. It isn't just a player culture thing either as it's been mentioned that the organization helps to facilitate this sort of welcoming process.
He can care about families but the bottom line is, it’s a business. Drury is getting paid to try and win. Trouba is getting paid (very well) to play a hell of a lot better than he has been. We aren’t talking about people making minimum wage. If certain players wouldn’t come here because they were worried about being traded if they don’t perform then we shouldn’t want them here to begin with.
It doesn’t matter tho. Part of deciding to join a team long term is considering the impact it will have on their families.
Everyone has a family. Trouba doesn’t get special treatment. He should never play another game for this organization.
I think you’re not understanding the point.
That is not special treatment. People consider the impact on their families when they take jobs. This isn’t exclusive to millionaires or professional athletes.
Correct and he has a limited no trade clause. Not a full one. So we should trade him to any of those teams not on his list or even waive him.
Right but if management’s response to a run of poor form is to try to immediately trade someone, to get out of a contract they offered, and then try to get fans to go after a guys wife that’s a bad look
Who’s going after his wife? I don’t see anyone speaking negative about her or what she does. Saying the NY Rangers shouldn’t be making rosters decisions based on her is not “going after her”
This is insane, if we keep Trouba (to keep his family happy) and they don’t take hometown discounts this is for nothing
Other players are watching us and wondering if we’re serious about winning and wondering if they should sign here
Serious question: say he comes back, ok? Do the fans on Opening Night boo our own captain if it comes out that he wasn’t cooperative during trade talks?
trouba better be careful, he may end up more than 75 miles from MSG!
What this refer to
rangers app events have this god awful rule that you have to be within 75 miles of MSG to be eligible for rewards. I’m somewhere around 82 miles.
You are way too involved in the Troubas family life, LOL. Can you calculate the tolls and cost of gas and daily Starbucks too?!
Want whats best for them
This is one of the dumbest posts I've seen here and that's saying something.
Why
I did essentially this for 15 years. Orange County to manhattan on the NJ Transit bus twice a day.
2h15m each way?
On the bus it was usually only 1hr40ish-m but because that’s where I worked but I didn’t want to live in the city. And once you leave the city, the closer and closer you are to the city, the more expensive it is.
This is why everyone hates ranger fans.

Why
I’m so down to bury this man. You can’t let a loser hold you hostage. Waive him. Maybe we get lucky and someone claims. Otherwise you better learn Connecticut-ese buddy boi.
If he doesn't get claimed, that helps very little
Easy now, just a game
I donno the rules well, but from my understanding its not realistic he ends up in ahl cuz they only save 1m on cap
Jacob Redden arc
Trouba isn't as bad as many of you guys claim.
DP2, PP2, PK1
A style of play many of you guys find respectful in teams that beat us and just won a Championship.
It's his salary you don't like. Okay? We don't need to worry about salary now. We have a year.
He's a big boy who can handle the professional BS. He can easily have a bounce back year.
For me it's just being out of position a lot. He doesn't need to do that to throw his hits and get everyone going.
Bunch of insensitive d bags in here who would absolutely throw massive tantrums for far less than Trouba is facing. Give the man a fuckin break, if you’re not willing to fight for your family then what kind of person are you. You’re all either hypocrites or children.
So confused. As a Rangers fan in Portland OR we have an I84 as well
Yeah, but ours came first so it’s better.
Amtrak might be faster? Dunno
Hellllllll no, that traffic is a nightmare. He could take the train but even that sucks/is a nightmare
When Brylin was assistant coach in Albany he still lived in NJ. And just drove himself to the away games.
He drove both ways to albany when had to be there?
Info coming from a friend whose child and SB kid played hockey together. I don’t know how well that worked out. He had a place in Albany too.
No way woulda done every day
Why should he? Am I missing something?
If he go waivers and sent down ahl hartford
Trouba Trouba Trouba
Lol
I wish he played better. I don't care about his personal needs. If I refused an assignment and whined to my boss about my personal stuff he would say how is it my problem?
He definitely doesn’t live in the financial district though.
We wouldn’t save that much by sending him down
Why haven’t we sent this man packing yet? Subpar leader
He should be doing this commute if he refuses to go elsewhere
Damn what an uneducated/scum fan base yall have here
wdym
I drive through god forsaken NYC traffic every day. I really don’t give a shit if this MILLIONAIRE hockey player has to ride his bike to Des Moines. Are we really doing this? I don’t give a rats ass about him not wanting to uproot. It’s not the Rangers responsibility to make his wife’s career logistically possible.
Realistically, we don't need Trouba gone gone until next season. It isn't like he prevented Drury from doing anything yesterday. We legit can not sign any of those contracts even with him gone. As early as next year we would be absolutely fucked and we would have to say goodbye to one of Laffy, Igor or Miller. Is that what you'd want?
It’s worth relocating the Wolfpack to Cali to get rid of this bum
Fuck trouba fr
1 missing reply
Is it doable? Yes. Will he do it at this point in his life? No.
