Florida Democrat Party chairwoman reacts to CBS News poll on Florida voters
CBS is following Trump & calling the Democratic party the Democrat party now... wtf is happening?!
It's a well-known insult that goes back much farther than Trump.
This is so aggravating. God the media has sunk so low.
The actual headline says Democratic
They changed it. It 100% said Democrat before. But I'm glad they fixed it
Yep. I saw it with my own eyes.

Agreed. It's insulting that CBS published this.
Democrats should raise hell and accuse CBS of being biased, like Republicans would if things were reversed.

They'd have to be more careful about it, though, if there were at least repercussions of bad publicity. Democrats shouldn't let the Overton window shift to where this is acceptable from the MSM.
Actually if you click on the link it says “democratic”. Not sure if they updated it or not.
Yet you posted the article...
Non US here, what's the difference? Is it a "Ukraine" vs "The Ukraine" thing or something else?
Republicans used it and it kinda slowly morphed into an insult just because of that.
Ah, I see. Thanks.
No, the name of the party is the "Democratic Party". To refer to it by any other name would be incorrect.
Kind of. There’s a good link that explains it above from another Redditor.
Its also a way to show one’s disdain for the democratic system of governance in general, similar to right wingers who place a lot of importance on the idea the the US is a republic, which is in their minds distinct from a democracy, although you won’t have much luck getting any of them to explain these contradictory ideas.
We used to have a very popular idea here in the US that democracy was the best available system of government. With the rise of Trump and Christo-fascism, right wing influencers are trying to normalize anti-democratic values, and replace them with reverence for authoritarianism and anarcho-capitalism.
The term "democratic" has positive connotations which they don't want to allow in their game of spin.
It was to emphasize “rat” in the name.
The implication is that they're not very democratic, I guess
Democrat party
Fuck all the way off CBS
DemocratIC
United Press International reported in August 1984 that the term Democrat Party had been employed "in recent years by some right-wing Republicans" because the party's Democratic name implied that the Democrats were "the only true adherents of democracy".[8]
Language expert Roy Copperud said it was used by Republicans who disliked the implication that Democratic Party implied to listeners that Democrats "are somehow the anointed custodians of the concept of democracy".[9] According to Oxford Dictionaries, the use of Democrat rather than the adjective Democratic "is in keeping with a longstanding tradition among Republicans of dropping the –ic in order to maintain a distinction from the broader, positive associations of the adjective democratic with democracy and egalitarianism".[10]
Political commentator William Safire wrote in 1993 that the Democrat of Democrat Party "does conveniently rhyme with autocrat, plutocrat, and worst of all, bureaucrat".[11] In 2006, Hendrik Hertzberg wrote in The New Yorker:[12]
There's no great mystery about the motives behind this deliberate misnaming. "Democrat Party" is a slur, or intended to be—a handy way to express contempt. Aesthetic judgments are subjective, of course, but "Democrat Party" is jarring verging on ugly. It fairly screams "rat".
Republican pollster Frank Luntz tested the phrase with a focus group in 2001, and concluded that the only people who really disliked the epithet were highly partisan Democrats.[12] Political analyst Charlie Cook attributed modern use of the term to force of habit rather than a deliberate epithet by Republicans.[13] Journalist Ruth Marcus stated that Republicans likely only continue to employ the term because Democrats dislike it,[1] and Hertzberg calls use of the term "a minor irritation" and also "the partisan equivalent of flashing a gang sign".[12]
Was there any content to what she said? I'm not watching a video
Hey the title is fixed ☺️
Way to show your bias in the headline

You're welcome.
Obviously, I never said it was your headline nor did I downvote your post.
Didn't have to post it.
Why did you edit the headline then?
In my opinion, since the Republicans see no harm in dropping two letters from their opponents name, they shouldn’t mind everyone else adding a couple to their name.
The GOP is now officially the MAGATS (make America great again Trump supporters). Especially now that Ex-President Trump has called Maggie Haberman “Maggot Haberman”. Obviously, this is acceptable speech at the highest levels of political discourse.
Do people really care about the term “Democrat Party”? I don’t think most people on the street have any idea that it’s supposedly an insult. My guess would be that all kinds of people say it interchangeably with Democratic and don’t mean anything by it. I have no idea how it would even be insulting anyway, it’s such an incredibly mundane change.
Anyone reporting on politics for CBS does know the distinction. It's either a show of bias or of unprofessional ignorance. It's also part of a spin game based on connotations, which many people don't understand.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the person who wrote the headline either didn’t know or just slipped up and made a mistake. Even if they did it intentionally, which I kinda doubt, I also doubt that readers would understand that Democrat Party is supposed to be an insult. Nice plan to subtly influence people against Dems. So subtle, in fact, that the insult and influence doesn’t even register lol.

That's the point of changing language and normalizing insults.
If your insult is completely indistinguishable from any other mundane statement, you’ve failed at crafting an insult lol.
It isn't indistinguishable though
They have a very clear intent
Yeah, and the intent failed. See the Wikipedia info other people have posted here. Neither Republicans nor Democrats care about the term or are aware that it’s supposed to be an insult. I don’t even understand what the Republicans were going for when they decided Democrat Party would be an insult. It still says Democrat in it lol.
Because they are saying we're not democratic.
It's lazy but that's what it is.
You're extrapolating your personal dislike onto everyone else.
Very lazy and ultimately a failure.
Because you are intent on ignoring the meaning.
it's sort of like how a person can dislike a nickname. for example someone named Robert may not like to be called Rob and prefer Robert.
Yeah, I mean, it’s true that some Republicans kept saying Democrat Party on purpose to annoy Dems, but I’m extremely skeptical that it caught on among the general public as an insult. I don’t think people know the different between Democrat Party and Democratic Party. Even the people who mistakenly say Democrat Party probably have no idea it’s even an insult.
Someone else in this thread posted the Wikipedia article about the term’s use as an insult. The page quotes Frank Luntz, Republican pollster, who says he found that tons of people on both sides didn’t take the supposed insult seriously. Only very partisan Dems were aware and cared. Those people are more plugged in than most people and honestly probably are more the type to be into team sports mentality and the drama of politics.
