Dem Senate candidate attends event where illegal immigrants were informed on how to evade law enforcement
Weird how nothing in the article indicates that the people there were illegal immigrants. They are just assuming they were to make a ragebait article and declare this democrat evil.
It was a campaign event. I can’t imagine why an noncitizen immigrant, documented or not, would be there unless they were working the event.
Handing out cards that tell people their constitutional rights is a bad thing?
Fox News hates the constitution!
We hate, you decide
It's disturbing how many of these so-called patriots on the right are willing to trash the Constitution the first chance they get and replace it with some far-right Christo fascist document of their wet dreams.
But they are in the United States illegally.
Look, we found the guy that will talk to the cops without a lawyer present!
I wouldn't and I am not saying people shouldn't, this is about helping people who have committed crimes to evade authorities.
So Donald Trump is definitely going to take the stand and defend himself from his illegal hush-money scheme, right? Or does he have the constitutional right to not do that?
I think he should.
But I also believe everyone deserves a fair trial (like I said in my previous comment).
With that being said, I don't really care about Trump that much. He could go to jail for all I care.
Seems to be a lot of people that have and continue to help Trump evade justice. He’s had more due process than any person in history and he’s got plenty of people, from morally bankrupt attorneys to corrupt or cowardly Judges, doing everything they can so he can milk every last drop of due process and rights afforded him under the Constitution.
Why shouldn’t immigrants, legal or not, be afforded the same rights and due process? To be opposed to this would be hypocritical if you are fine with all the ways Trump is currently squeezing every last drop of due process from LE and courts.
It’s also worth noting that whether someone is here legally or not can get confusing and muddy quickly. Many have applications for multiple visas because they may qualify under several different pathways (crime victims are one good example).
The different bureaucracies involved don’t all communicate with one another well or the applicant. It’s not uncommon for immigrants to be detained when they are, in fact, here legally. Why wouldn’t you want to know your rights if you are an immigrant breadwinner here legally? One bureaucratic fuck up and you are locked up for months in detention unable to provide for your family.
I believe you would find yourself questioning the propaganda you’re being fed if you took more time to not view them as “illegals” or “potentially illegal” and saw them as “people”. People that are here and, thus, afforded protections from government abuse. We like that, right? Curbing the power of the State to unjustly persecute, harm or punish individuals?
They still have constitutional rights if they're on US soil.
Do you have a problem with that?
If you do, I suggest you petition for a change in the constitution and not take it out on people who are just letting others know what their rights are.
I'm not saying they do not have rights, but I think it's wrong to help someone to evade authorities when you know they committed a crime.
I do believe they have the right to a lawyer and to remain silent without a fair trail but to help someone who you know has committed a felony is, in my eyes, morally wrong whether that felony was a major or a minor one.
No one helped anyone evade authorities. They handed out cards with a list of constitutional rights on them.
The red cards, viewed by Fox News Digital, explain how someone in the U.S. illegally can avoid immigration agents that are asking them questions or showing up at their door.
say, how many times have you clicked on that fox article..you know to get your quotes and refresh your memory? super curious.
Two.
Once to read it.
Another to get the quote.
cool, they got double the clicks from you. Get that ad revenue rolling so they can put out more of the same formula of division and hate. Helps pay their last almost $800 million fine for doing the same thing.
If you say so.
The red cards, viewed by Fox News Digital, explain how someone in the U.S. illegally can avoid immigration agents that are asking them questions or showing up at their door.
That's not "evading" that's exercising their rights lol. Don't let cops skirt the constitution just because you don't like the people who committed a minor crime.
Entering the country illegally is not a "minor" crime
It’s literally a misdemeanor.
Misdemeanors can include domestic violence, sexual battery, assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft, breaking and entering, child abuse, elder abuse, firearms violations, drugged and drunk driving, criminal threats, violating a restraining order. . .
...the prosecutor often will add a charge of “illegal entry” (a misdemeanor) to the indictment
You should do your homework. But if you did that, you wouldn't fall for Fox News like you did here.
It's a misdemeanor, the very definition of a minor crime.
Echoing everyone else: it absolutely is lol.
By legal definition.
And they usually end up a net profit in taxes as well. Who are they hurting?
Worry about violent criminals or white collar criminals who are dumping toxins into our water supply, not people busting their asses to provide for their families.
It actually is. It’s classified as a misdemeanor…
Being in the country illegally isn't a felony
Title 8 of the U.S. Code identifies federal criminal offenses pertaining to immigration and nationality, including the following two entry-related offenses:
“Illegal Entry”/8 U.S.C. § 1325 makes it a crime to unlawfully enter the United States. It applies to people who do not enter with proper inspection at a port of entry, such as those who enter between ports of entry, avoid examination or inspection, or who make false statements while entering or attempting to enter. A first offense is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine, up to six months in prison, or both.
“Illegal Re-Entry”/8 U.S.C. § 1326 makes it a crime to unlawfully reenter, attempt to unlawfully reenter, or to be found in the United States after having been deported, ordered removed, or denied admission. This crime is punishable as a felony with a maximum sentence of two years in prison. Higher penalties apply if the person was previously removed after having been convicted of certain crimes: up to 10 years for a single felony conviction (other than an aggravated felony conviction) or three misdemeanor convictions involving drugs or crimes against a person, and up to 20 years for an aggravated felony conviction.
...
I strongly recommend you actually learn about what it is you're arguing for instead of saying incorrect, wrong, false things.
Can you do that for me?
Many migrants are legally present in the US, yet right wing media outlets like Fox News still call them "illegal immigrants." As horrible of a person that Roger Ailes was, at least he kept guardrails up on the news division at FNC, that's gone and so anything from FNC is fucking suspect now.
Cool, good for them.
Illegally entering a country is a bad thing, actually.
If it’s so bad then why do Republicans keep hiring illegals? Why did they elect a President who hired hundreds of them to work at his businesses?
I do not like Trump
Then I like you.
What if it's a really rich country that fucked up your home country because your people found oil or elected a leader they didn't like? America's foreign policy towards every country it perceives as being under its sphere of influence is a bad thing, actually. Not to say all the world's problems are the fault of the US, but we have a terrible track record of propping up dictators and illegitimate governments and inflicting poverty elsewhere for our own material benefit. The displaced people showing up at our door should illicit some sympathy for what they've been through. After all they've suffered and the part we played in it, it's pretty awful to say, "We have rules against you being here, actually." There ought to have been rules to protect their country from the exploitation of greater powers, but sadly, America only pretends to be the power which enforces global justice while it is one of many offenders.

I do not hate the constitution, in fact I believe that the constitution is the third greatest document on earth. (Especially when compared with my country's constitution).
The problem for me is simply helping people who have committed felonies. I still believe they have rights and they should exercise those rights I just believe it to be immoral to help them, that's all.
But you think it is morally acceptable to violate their constitutional rights if they don't know they have them?
No.
Also. You keep mentioning felonies.
Being in the US illegally is not a felony.
Can you give me an example of a legal felony?
Then how is it immoral to let them know they have these rights?
Because you are helping criminals to evade the law.
And yet they have constitutional rights.
Dude, they are literally just handing out cards to everyone with what rights you have in the US at a campaign rally. They aren’t asking “Are you here undocumented? Okay, here’s a card.”.
In fact, the odds are there weren’t any undocumented people at the event because…it was a campaign event and only citizens can vote.
I’m still grateful today for a HS civics teacher that taught us our rights under the 4A. Has helped me avoid having my time wasted twice by overly pushy cops during traffic stops.
This is FOX rage bait and you either a) Fell for it. Don’t worry. Happens to everyone sometimes. Or b) You have an issue with educating people about their rights under the government. I woulda thought conservatives wanted more people to understand the US Constitution and their rights.
The people at that event wouldn't have been illegal immigrants.
The U.S. Constitution applies to all Americans, everyone in the U.S., and all dealings by the U.S. government.
If you think that constitutional protections only apply to certain groups, I’m sure you can find countries that better align with your beliefs. North Korea or Afghanistan would love the publicity.
They still have rights. Cry about it…
According to the headlines, at least. The article itself doesn't make any such claims.
Generally speaking, political parties tend to host events for voters.
"Know Your Rights Cards"
So this rage bait is just standard Republican bullshit.
From the article:
The red cards, viewed by Fox News Digital, explain how someone in the U.S. illegally can avoid immigration agents that are asking them questions or showing up at their door...
Any one of us can view the Red Cards:
You have constitutional rights:
DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR if an immigration agent is knocking on the door.
DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS from an immigration agent if they try to talk to you. You have the right to remain silent.
DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING without first speaking to a lawyer. You have the right to speak with a lawyer.
If you are outside of your home, ask the agent if you are free to leave and if they say yes, leave calmly.
GIVE THIS CARD TO THE AGENT. If you are inside of your home, show the card through the window or slide it under the door.

Fox News and their viewers are fascists who think our Constitutional Rights only apply to the demographics they like.
FU, Fox News.
That would still be preferable to condoning actual dictatorship...
Try again
Is Fox News lying about this like how Fox News lied about the 2020 election?
Fox is not a legitimate source. Automatic downvote every time.
So what.
Fuck off, Faux News.
Dem Senate candidate attends event on constitutional law.
There. Fixed it.
For News lies to their viewers. This was proven in court.
hey foxnews with the same tired formula of hate and division for profit...Pretty sure every GOP member attended events where they informed them on how to evade law enforcement..how else do you explain a full third of congress actively participating in a coup and not a single one of them being charged?
What happened to conservatives and “FrEe SpeEcH!!”
