Congressman Ken Buck says he is being evicted after refusing to vote for Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House
Is this what the right means when they say cancel culture is out of control?
I 100% guarantee they will start calling it "Consequence Culture" because the left has been calling it that for awhile now. Not an original thought in their heads.
It’s easier to co-opt a message and use it against the creators than come up with one on your own, unfortunately.
Something the Democrats, or at least the Biden campaign, have finally starting figuring out effectively with the Dark Brandon thing and popping on to Truth social and promptly getting more followers than Dump.
Obama embraced the "Thanks Obama" meme
Reminded of the Dark Souls mod that changed "YOU DIED" for "THANKS OBAMA"
Sounds like an excellent mod
Man I miss that guy.
Hey, it worked with "Yankee Doodle".
Yankee Doodle? The Dandy? I heard he once stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni, is that true?
Incidentally, I loved it when Tramp backed out of the debate with Christie, and Chtistie labeled him 'Donald Duck'.
I agree. That was delicious. Much as I am not a fan of Christie, I do enjoy his Tramp ripostes.
I too like it when Christie goes off on Trump. But make absolutely no mistake, if Trump gets elected, Christie will be supporting him 100% no matter what he says today.
The thing is that Democrats figured it out a decade ago with "Thanks Obama" but they refused to implement it as anything other than a meme.
For example: Woke. From the first time I saw it, I knew it would be weaponized.
"fake news" I think is the real poster child. This was and is a very real thing but they managed to quickly change that definition to be "reporting on anything bad we did"
The GOP is the Mikey of American politics. They weaponize everything…
"Defund the police" too.
The left is terrible at messaging. I don't know who comes up with these slogans for ideas, but they're really, really bad.
Something dumb like "Care, not Cages" would be a lot catchier and do a better job of promoting the message.
At least "15-minute city" is acceptable. Not catchy, but harder to weaponize.
At least "15-minute city" is acceptable. Not catchy, but harder to weaponize.
I have some bad news for you
Yeah I've seen more than a few right wing commentators raging against how 15-minute cities are some sinister attempt to strip away your rights, cars, barbeques, and whatever the fuck else.
Which is hilariously ironic, because that's exactly what conservatives want to turn the entire country into. An authoritarian police state where minorities have zero rights and the police have unlimited power and all the toys they want to keep the "undesirables" away.
Whats impressive to me about “Defund the Police” is it was applied to all Democrats despite very few of them even coming close to agreeing with it. Biden’s official policy was “Give the police anything they could possibly want” and yet he still somehow got tarred with it.
Hell some democratic cities increased police funding after that. Like there was very little defunding of anything.
As an obsessive political junkie for 20 years, there's a consistent behavior pattern of "Dems pulling defeat from the jaws of victory." I can't tell if their organizational pathology is just really, really bad at strategic goals and the tactics used to reach those goals, or if a few key players were bribed to sabotage things from the inside. It seems like Dems have a bipartisanship fetish with opponents who loathe their existence, which is really weird psychology.
When parties are working in good faith is a good policy. Government shouldn't be a winner take all, it should be an equitable compromise all around, you get most of what you want but not everything, even though I obviously think everything is better.
But you are right when the other side is clearly not acting in good faith then giving any compromise to them is just losing with nothing gained in return.
But it's hard, when you want the other side to act in good faith you have to do so first, which I think is the mentality that the Dems have, that if they stop playing fair then there is no chance the Republican party comes back to the light but it's foregone conclusion at this point
That and it's not exactly a good idea to try and compromise when one side is actively campaigning to strip a whole minority demographic of human rights. The other side won't ever be happy with anything less than stripping all the rights, while your side and the minority in question will be enraged with you for taking away what amount of rights you try to use as a bargaining chip.
Bill Clinton ended 12 years of Republican presidents including a sitting president who had just won a war… on bipartisanship.
Obama also made it a central theme.
It worked for them for 20+ years until Obama was elected and McConnell decided to everything he could get to the black man out of the White House.
Bill Clinton ended 12 years of Republican presidents including a sitting president who had just won a war… on bipartisanship
A heavy part of that was instituting republican economic policy, which heavily influenced trends which would wrap up in the 2008 global economic crash
Bipartisanship is one thing, but part of a good leader is also educating your constituency and pursuing what's good for them across the long term and not just this month's poll numbers. That's something which past presidents did and why FDR was elected more than the traditional 2 times.
At least "15-minute city" is acceptable. Not catchy, but harder to weaponize.
The right will stick anything through the same meat grinder. It doesn't matter. Walkable 15 minute cities are already being pitched as "Democrats want to imprison you in a ghetto where you won't be allowed to travel more than 15 minutes as a form of strict social control, and they'll ban you from being able to own a private car so you can never escape!"
In another year or two, it will be common wisdom that the dems screwed up with bad messaging on 15 minute cities, as if there was any messaging that wouldn't have been twisted by the Republicans, just because it came from the wrong team.
I like to think that the left is terrible at messaging because we're better at understanding context and don't need a slogan to be catchy or simple in order to figure out what it's actually trying to say, but that's still not really a good thing.
Fun fact, "pro-life" used to describe something entirely different:
The earliest use of the term pro-life cited by the Oxford English Dictionary is in the 1960 book Summerhill: A Radical Approach to Child Rearing by educator A. S. Neill, though Neill uses it in a more general sense not specific to abortion:
No pro-life parent or teacher would ever strike a child. No pro-life citizen would tolerate our penal code, our hangings, our punishment of homosexuals, our attitude toward bastardy.[1][2]
Yep, a term that once stood for kindness and acceptance is now a rallying cry for the party of cruelty.
Don’t give them any ideas.
I used to not understand what "don't give them any ideas" meant.
Any time I heard someone say that I thought the idea was so obvious anyone would arive at the same conclusion/solution. But that's not actually true. There are a whole lot of people who would never be able to find a simple solution to some problems. Not necessarily because they're idiots, but because it's so far outside of how they experience reality.
Someone has to, they don't have any of their own.
It's thuggery. The key to autocratic control. I'm glad for the handful of republican representatives that actually stood up to it.
The leopards have started coming for their faces and they're, unsurprisingly, not thrilled about that.
It's only cancel culture when liberals do it. Conservatives try to cancel the election process in the US and still act like nothing was wrong.
It's only cancel culture when liberals do it.
Otherwise it's 'Sparkling Consequences'
“Kevin McCarthy was ousted because he made promises that he didn't keep. Now, we believe Jim Jordan will keep those promises…”
It just can’t be said enough, how absolutely stupid and gullible Republican voters are. I just want to know, exactly how many Nigerian princes have these dumb dumbs helped in their lives?
Jordan just said he wasn’t requesting for a 3rd vote right before requesting for a 3rd vote. If someone think Jordan keeps him promises, they are not of this reality
It's honestly not even about keeping promises, these people don't fucking understand how congress works and they WORK THERE. There is absolutely zero chance any of the crazy shit they want will pass the Democrat controlled senate and Biden. They can shout their insane wishlist all they want at the House Leader, it won't magically become reality.
And they would prefer nothing happens at all if it's not exactly whatever insane thing they want.
There was no negotiating to get Gym Jordan support, like a " we'll give you X" if you vote for Gymbo.
Just death threats.
That is why I'm glad he failed. Governing by intimidation is not a road we want to go down.
It's also a lesson in what is effective for dealing with the far right. Negotiating and threats are not enough. Only tangible consequences will do.
They can't pass their fantasy wishlist normally, but they can threaten to implode the government on a monthly basis unless Dems cave and give them everything they want. Basically holding Americans (including their own constituents) hostage to extort their opponents. That's what this all started over.
See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden jump up and call for a third speaker vote like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that.
...
Yeah, I remember calling for the third speaker vote.
One good thing about trump is the clueless morons now wear name tags.
There's what, like 8 of these fucking "freedom caucus" losers tops?
Seriously "moderate" GOP, you're hitching your wagon to a sinking ship how fucking dumb are you? You literally can end this once and for all.
Vote for a moderate, strip these freedom caucus treasonous snakes of all their committee seats and let them flounder and die.
This is a direct result of a very strong Dem turnout in the last election ('22), which shaved the GOP majority so thin that they can't even do the basics with a majority for the first time since Gingrich. It is a big deal, even if it doesn't feel like it. Go vote, it matters.
Freedom caucus is actually like 40-50 people, but then there's a subset of them that are loud as fuck.
So I used to know this guy, I wouldn't call him a buddy, just a guy that I'd talk to sometimes at the bar. He was a con artist, mostly doing home improvement scams. Window scams, fake driveway sealing, etc. In 2015, when the lawn signs for two-scoops started to pop up, he told me this was so great for his business.
He would get to talk to the folks that had those lawn signs, figuring that the only people who would put them up were either racists or gullible (usually both). He'd slip on the n-word, and if they didn't react he'd assume that they were just racist and leave them alone. If they took notice of it, he would know that they were just stupid and gullible and scam them hard.
Dude was swimming in cash.
That's interesting that con artists profile like that. Trump signs gotta be their bread and butter.
Pillow man made and lost a fortune scamming these people. (If he had just stayed out of the “rigged election” business he’d be sitting pretty right now. )
Pillow man drank his own flavor-aid. He was smart enough to see a crowd of easy marks and too stupid to realize they really were his kind of people.
Like a crack head, he profited well at first, but then dipped into the crack supply and then nose dived into chaos and despair
I’m no con artist but I still profile people like that. It helps determine who is and isn’t worth my time.
I mean, Trump is a con artist. He's absolutely fleecing his supporters. You've got people struggling to keep food on the table sending every extra dollar they make to a guy worth many millions of dollars.
Two-scoops?
I had to look it up, seems like a pretty deep cut reference to Trump.
That dip fuck really just wants to be a king doesn't he?
I wonder if he actually knows what has happened to most kings... 🤔
The was a story at dinners during Trump's presidency he made sure everyone got one scoop of ice cream but he got two.
why would he leave the racists alone
I think the idea is that racists supporting trump aren't fools they know what their voting for, people who reacted to the nword probably weren't racists (or at least not THAT racist) and let themselves get tricked into voting for trump anyways
I think the idea is that a Trump supporter that isn't (at least knowingly) racist is practically guaranteed to be violently stupid, as their support means that they genuinely believe his policies benefit everyone. A knowingly racist Trump supporter could still be just as stupid, but it's not guaranteed, as their support likely just hinges on the racism. And we are talking about a con artist. Just because he preys on stupid and naive people that we don't happen to like doesn't mean he's doing anything good.
The idea is that extremely vocal trump supporters are either racist or stupid. By weeding out the racists, you're left with the stupid, easily griftable population. Which does seem to be ignoring the fact that many racists are also stupid.
It's the same reason email scams include obvious typos and other giveaways. Scammers aren't looking to do a hard day's work. They want people who would fall for the most obvious scams.
It's only when they have an extremely specific target that they get crafty about it.
Because racists don't have to be gullible to vote for Trump.
I mean, believing in white supremacy is stupid in the first place, but not the falls for scams kind of stupid.
😂 I think trump WAS the Nigerian prince all along 😂
These guys all dabbled with a fascist posture and are now shocked that they’re being treated like this. Punishment for political acts is a core component of fascism. They embraced intolerance and vindictiveness and now they get to see what it feels like to be on the other side all because they didn’t want to vote for Jim Jordan of all people. I’m just waiting to see what happens once all the wheels come off the Trump bus. There’s not going to be a graceful exit and we’re going to see in real time the penalties for aligning themselves with this mindset.
Ernst Rohm was a true believer in Hitler. He lead the police force that was so integral in Hitler coming to power. Nobody was more sadistic, loyal, and brutal than Ernst Rohm was to the Nazi party and while these qualities were what the Nazi party valued, Hitler ultimately had Ernest Rohm killed. This is fascism. Once you've been used up and have no value, you are disposed of.
Not just Rohm. Hundreds of SA leaders were murdered on or around June 30, 1934, along with Rohm. The Night of the Long Knives neutered the SA for good.
If the fascists ever succeed in conquering the United States, its leadership will purge the dogs who won the country for them once they have consolidated power for themselves. Hear that, Proud Boys? You don't keep street-fighting revolutionaries around once you have successfully attained power by way of a revolution.
Rather, you only keep one. Long knives was getting rid of the SA in favour of SS.
The neutering of the SA did two things. It satisfied the demands of the German Army, who were never supportive of the NSDAP upstarts and resented its paramilitary street thugs in uniform. The SA outnumbered proper German soldiers in 1934 before the purge. And as you point out it cleared a path for the SS, which would directly benefit Hitler in the years to come. The SA swore an oath of loyalty to the party. They would fight for whomever they saw as the rightful party leader. Could that one day be Rohm? Maybe. The SS swore an oath of loyalty to Hitler's person. No questions as to whom they would fight for.
It's not about value it's about threat.
Yep, at some point the head (rightfully) becomes paranoid and starts barking orders to eliminate internal threats.
I’ve noticed this tends to happen when power is not gained democratically or hereditarily.
Most famous gay Nazi, thought he was safe cause he and Adolf were buds.
Fascism always eats its own. The problem is that the fascists do a lot of damage in the mean time. I do think the 2060 election will occur and be reasonably fair. It's the 40 years in the mean time that could get dark.
They thought they would be a part of the in-group. They are nearly always wrong.
He and 4 of his buddies love Jim Jordan therefore all of his constituents want Jim Jordan. It's just solid Republican logic.
Jim Jordan is infinitely more popular with Republican voters than almost any other Speaker candidate. Matt Gaetz is, in most regards, a legitimate representation of where the national average is for Republican primary voters.
Is that completely insane? Yes. But 1/3 of the country is completely insane.
What about the people that support this behavior? Do they go back to the shadows?
For some, a true reckoning. For some, they are going to pretend none of this happened. Others will claim they were deceived even though every Republican leaning person should have dropped MAGA a long time ago. A lot of it will depend on how accepted MAGA is in their community and what kind of vacuum would be created if all MAGAs were shunned. Being a former MAGA may have zero consequences in Lubbock, Texas but huge social implications in Los Angeles, California. It will be a bit like Japan and Germany after WW2, but obviously not as severe because ultimately Trump was too stupid to pull off a successful fascist takeover. We’re still in the middle of it all and I shouldn’t be celebrating before reaching the end zone, but Trump’s legal problems are finally taking a toll and there’s no one else in the MAGA movement with enough charisma or support to keep it going. If Trump was a little smarter and less egotistical then he could have groomed a successor, but instead he’s Saturn devouring his young and so the cult will end up fading in power when he does.
I find it interesting that you use the examples of Japan and Germany after WWII when you have a much better at home example in the Civil War. Much of what's happening right now can actually have a straight line drawn to failures during Reconstruction.
So my prediction for MAGA going forward is that Red America will adopt it as part of their cultural identity, be a little more quiet about it for awhile, and wait for another opportunity to "Rise Again".
Maybe you’re right. My main idea is that a large majority of MAGA will slip into a sort of denialism. We’ve already seen people pretend Jan 6 was just some peaceful protest.
I agree with you about the toll. It seems like his control on the party is slipping for the first time in forever, that’s what this chaos seems to be to me anyway…his control slipping and the beginning consequences of it.
Isn't there always like a power grab in these situations? There's no Mitch McConnell type person in the house that can grab the reins in at least get them all the same line of thought and action. It was a well-oiled machine and then they let cult of personality take over.
Watching the GOP throw death threats around should really help with the undecided and moderates come election time.
Oh don’t worry they’ll still waffle because of some vague notion about Biden and the economy.
I got into my first politically-centered argument yesterday and I feel like I lost brain cells.
And yes, even after pointing out that no, Russia is not receiving American dollars because Biden just gave it to them, the person refused to believe hard facts because tHaTs NoT wHaT fOx NeWs SaId.
Then argued they trust Fox News because they’re local.
We live in Oregon🤦🏽♀️
That’s why politics is forbidden in “polite” conversation. Once you know for a fact that someone genuinely wants to harm people via the state apparatus, it’s hard to have respect for them. Without mutual respect, social cohesion evaporates.
Not saying that evaporation is a bad thing…
This is exactly it. My in-laws think I won't discuss ("discuss" is them making snide comments about the youth and rejecting everything as fake news) politics with them because I'm scared to have my viewpoint challenged. No, I just don't want to explain to their grandkid what hateful, selfish pieces of shit they are.
I remember when I was little, it was not considered polite to talk about politics. The idk wtf happened.
And the person arguing with me is older.
Old people spend their whole day scrolling Facebook and watching Fox News. They've lost all context for normal modern socialization. It doesn't help that everything has been politicized too- can't even talk about the weather without navigating climate change. Not all old people, though. Some, I assume, are good people.
Had this exact problem with my neighbor last week. I deal with export controls at work all the time. The whole notion of just giving Russia or Iran money, "just because", is so laughable I didn't even know where to start. So I tried to go back to junior high civics and explain that Congress allocates money, and that the president doesn't really have a slush fund of money he can just wire to Putin. (Yes I know those actually exist for other things). But in the end, why would he do that? Like what would be the motivation?
It was just all strange circular logic Fox talking points that he responded with. It was clear that absolutely zero critical thought had happened.
Not to mention that we're actively funding a country currently fighting a war with Russia.
And when you pointed out they have literally used "no one is dumb enough to beleive what we say" as a defence in court to lying, what did they say?
Or had they left before you finished crying with laughter?
She got on her phone and ignored me for the rest of the time I was there until I clocked out.
Like homie if you are gonna start something then at least see it thru.
Lol, you basically lived through the Barley Tonight sketch from I Think You Should Leave (watch the start of s3e1 on Netflix if you haven't heard of it)
Hunter Biden's laptop!
Buttery Males, proof Obama is Kenyan in two weeks, Ebola, caravans of Hamas at the border, watermelon thighs, post-birth abortion, communists, Deepstate, 5G mind control chips, CRT!
Edit: it was cantaloupe calves, I’m getting my right wing dog whistles mixed up.
Can we tie the Woke Mind Virus to CRT?
That's why everything is flat panels now!
Just like the earth.
Only if you tie that phrase to the "townsquare of democracy" that some idiot purchased for 44billy and now wants to charge per month.
You know, for "democracy"
You left out antisemitic space lazers, and secret lairs in pizza parlor basements.
gAs pRiCeS WeRe lOwEr uNdEr tRuMp!
Living in Trump country in the south/mid south, this is a daily utterance from those around me. It is the biggest issue they care about other than the border wall. I wish I were joking.
Or all those babies we're murdering!! Children we're grooming!!
While voting for actual pedophiles Gaetz and Trump.
Since Gingrich they've abandoned courting the middle. And have not been unsuccessful in doing so and getting elected, esp with the navel-gazing Fox and its spawn providing a closed ecosystem.
And also like Gingrich's tenure, we have chaos in the House and a looming government shutdown.
And if that gets threatened, there's always Gerrymandering, as in NC right now redrawing districts of successful and visible democrat House members like Jeff Jackson.
Independents: “Whatever. I’m sure Democrats would do the same if they were electing a Speaker.”
Except every single Democrat is voting for one person here, Hakeem Jeffries.
And has voted for the same person in every single of these 3 votes and has voted for that exact same person in all, what 15, of Speaker McCarthy's vote.
Jeffries has received more votes for Speaker than anyone in history. Which is kind of strange considering that he's never held the office.
Moderates: "A little smidge of death threats against politicians every now and then are ok if that's what it takes to keep the economy running."
Unfortunately, assuming Undecided and moderate voters are paying attention to all of this is a high bar nowadays.
Would love to see it but it has not happened until now, no matter the antics since 2010. These GOP voters show up like sheep at election time and vote R, no matter what.
This isn’t correct.
There’s been several tight races where voters in suburbs flipping was key to victory. As well as moderate GOP not voting.
I live in a deep R state and can tell by standing in line with these people that they do only vote for the R next to the name and do not have a clue who they are voting for. Most of these people are void of knowledge and information and have no intentions of seeking out anything that would benefit them or their families or their future.
Deep R. Yeah, those people are a lost cause. There’s nothing that will cause them to change their mind. Ever.
Those aren’t who the Ds are trying to target. They’re targeting those on the margins. The moderates and politically apathetic. THOSE are the folks who look at the GOP dysfunction and go “yeah, no, I’ll vote D this time.”
I grew up in Kansas and I remember asking my friends wife why she voted for Republicans (she didn't seem like the type). I started asking her how she feels about half a dozen or so policies, and again and again she agreed with Democrats. So I say, so why would you vote Republican? She says because that's who her parents and grandparents vote for
This is more common than you expect. My buddy also votes red and is hardcore maga and I asked why cause before when I didn’t that about him he was always supportive of LGTBQ people and agreed with expanding social benefits. His answer was because his parents voted R. These people literally know nothing else than voting R their entire life so they just line up and do it regardless of their personal views
Time to pull some parenting on these people: "if they jumped off a bridge would you do it too?"
I've started to think the lack of knowledge is intentional. Deep down, a lot of people on the right probably know that if they started making an effort to be more fully informed, that if they approached politics with an open mind and did just a little bit of digging, their entire worldview might start to crumble. That can be liberating, but it can also be terrifying.
For many on the right, ignorance is bliss, even when it's harmful to them and to those they care about.
You also lose your entire social circle if people find out. Your friends, your church, the bars you go to all have to change. Try that in a small town. I don’t think many people realize the social implications of switching parties in deep red areas
Yea, this is the largest reason nobody talks about. You literally can’t if you want to have a social life. Even if you privately switched that means you mentally changed and it becomes harder and harder to hang out with people who you have drifted away from. Little small things you might not have noticed become very noticeable. Small talk at a bar, car bumper stickers, clothing, etc
I cannot emphasize this enough. I have lost all my childhood friends, my father and many other family members because I don't vote R. I have one friend who leans right but rarely votes so we manage to salvage a friendship because we navigate around the rocks. Being a good person and doing the right thing costs a lot.
Literally a cult
Why do you think most red states have horrible public schools?
Very accurate, although I would even argue (from solely personal experience) that this could be applied to folks that vote blue as well. When I left my neoliberal academic bubble and joined the military, I was finally exposed to the peace of mind and freedom that comes with a robust welfare state. I never had to worry about a roof over my head, where my next meal was coming from, or clothes on my back.
It pushed me pretty damn far to the left.
It takes effort to learn new things and it can lead to embarrassment when you admit you don’t know or were misinformed. Why bother with that?
I saw this described as 'aggressive ignorance' and I think it explains much of what we see.
One of the deepest red states here 🙋. This 👆statement is 100% facts.
Just to note, this is more a purple state phenomenon where that peer pressure isn't as bad. I live in MI, this will absolutely impact elections here.
This is so true and so sad that we can’t do anything better for election integrity and education.
Most of them still think that a Dem winning means babies get killed in post-birth abortions, guns get outlawed, taxes on the working class go up 300%, every kid is forced to participate in drag shows in elementary school, etc etc etc.
There's a reason the GOP focuses so hard on single issues like these. It's because they've been focus tested and found to make big chunks of people disregard 90% of their beliefs to vote Republican.
We have to stop thinking about “most of them”. They’re lost.
Key is that there’s enough “rest of them” to change outcomes.
My precinct in Texas suburbs for example. Looking only at Trump vs Dem candidate: 2016 77% voted Trump. 2020 it was down to 61%.
That’s a huge shift! And these flips are especially important. Getting a non-voter to vote adds 1 Democrat vote. Getting a GOP voter to vote Dem adds 1 Democrat vote AND removes 1 GOP vote. And in my precinct we have 70+% turnout, so these are important trends.
Voters that flipped in suburbs were the key to winning the Supreme Court seat in Wisconsin. And so many tight races these are a key block of decisive votes.
100% This. Cannot be said too many times.
The article says that more than a dozen people showed up to protest at his office.
The newspaper quoted one of them saying “the majority of his constituents want him to vote for [Gym] Jordan.”
She was one of THIRTEEN people who is telling her congressman what “everyone” in his district wants.
I’m glad she protested—that freedom of assembly is an important right for all of us, but it’s ludicrous to insist that what you want is what everyone wants (especially when there are only 13 of you there).
Wons said he wasn't aware of the death threats that Buck was receiving, but did say Buck should make sure he is acting in the best interest of his voters.
I think we've found the soure of the death threats.
Buck is my Representative. And while I appreciate him voting against Jordan, still: Fuck Ken Buck.
It's crazy that Ken Buck as a broken clock is still somehow only right once a day
He must be a military clock.
"Ken Buck is not listening to his constituents. He is not voting for Jim Jordan for speaker when the majority of people in his district want Jim Jordan," said Richard Wons, a resident in Windsor. "We are here to let him know you need to do what the people ask you to do, what the people want. That is what any politician should do."
There is a Richard Wons from Colorado on X (I loathe calling it that) who brags about being fired for refusing to take a COVID vaccine. His banner is David fighting Gloiath. He replies enthusiastically to the likes of MTG, Steven Crowder, and Elon Musk.
I doubt this guy is cool with what the people want if it isn't always what he wants
Also there’s a debate about whether an elected representative should follow the opinion of those who elect them or follow their own sense of right, since they are of the people they represent to begin with.
There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.
Martin Luther King Jr
No, a representative’s job is not to do whatever the people want. It’s to make decisions on behalf of the people. If the people don’t like those decisions, they can elect someone different next time.
The system is supposed to be “there is way too much for the average Joe to be knowledgeable about and keep up to date on, so we choose a person whose judgement and values we trust to spend all their time keeping up to date and consulting experts so that they can support decisions for the good of their constituents”
Doing what your constituents want is called the delegate model of representation. Making your own decisions on what’s best is the trustee model. Both valid with pros and cons.
We used to be taught the models of representation in school—willing to bet that’s gone completely out the window now along with the rest of anything resembling a civics class.
Yes, Richard Wons is the individual who measured the will of the people, and by his measurement, a majority of Ken Buck's district wants Jordan for speaker.
GTFO with that false consensus BS. These morons always assume they are the plurality yet can't seem to win an election. If they do win, they can't function. That's not a majority, and the majority party in the house only exists due to the convenience of duct tape and silly putty.
(I loathe calling it that)
Then don't? If Musky hates when people still call it Twitter, call it fucking Twitter. Don't call it X just because that's what he wants you to call it.
Man who deadnames their own child hates when people deadname his company
X (I loathe calling it that)
So just say Twitter
He doesn’t just represent the people who voted for him. He represents all of his constituents, many of whom are democrat.
If anything the guy is listening to his constituents because I bet if they took a vote the majority would say he’s doing the right thing here. MAGA republicans are really a minority
Yeah my dad, from Jordan’s district, is like that too. He demands that his senators do what he wants and gets furious when they don’t. I’m always like, “hey, uhh, they’re my senators too!”
I loathe calling it that
Then call it twitter. Literally no one is forcing you to call it that other dumb name, and no one has forgotten what "twitter" is.
The Party of Freedom© strikes again.
There is more than one side to the (speaker vote) story," Gebhardt said. "Getting evicted from an office and getting death threats all because of a vote you make, if that is the kind of response that followers of Jim Jordan get, I don't think he would be good in that position."
Wow... Something sane from a Republican.
Too bad they'll gladly vote for Trump given the chance.
It is now time for sensible minded Republicans to become independents and caucus with moderate Democrats. This will open up the doors to progress. EDIT spelling
This guy could be evicted AND have his wife ridiculed by every single Republican in the house, and he still wouldn’t dare cross party lines.
He's already crossed party lines by being outspoken against impeachment and outright saying he hasn't heard a single truthful statement in any of the inquiries.
No, he just did the bare minimum, he didn't cross shit.
Well, for Republicans doing the bare minimum is crossing the line.
I know it’s not something we should applaud, but it’s kind of where we’re at right now
Funny enough, this dude is incredibly conservative. He voted to remove McCarthy, voted against a spending deal, he’s everything the far right wants…except he won’t let Jim Jordan steamroll him. That’s enough to be damning in their eyes
Because they just want to win. That’s it. They don’t care what a win means for the country as a whole; they just want to see a giant R banner rise above everything and that’s as far as these morons can understand. Anyone who doesn’t abandon their morals or principles to achieve those wins is an enemy. I really don’t know how you fix that diseased mindset.
sensible minded Republicans
There haven't been any of those for decades now

sensible minded Republicans? Rarer than a DoDo bird.
"Kevin McCarthy was ousted because he made promises that he didn't keep. Now, we believe Jim Jordan will keep those promises and Ken Buck isn't voting for him," Wons said.
Based on what? What has Jordan done to make people think he can get ANYTHING done? The man hasnt passed any legislation ever.
Their goal isn't getting anything done. Their goal is to burn it to the ground. That's why they feel betrayed by McCarthy helping pass a temporary CR instead of shutting gov down.
I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in stating a while back that MAGA would eventually turn on one another. Didn’t think it would be quite this soon, but I’m all for it.
The aren't turning on each other, they're purging. Anyone who doesn't vow even indirect support to Dear Leader will be excommunicated.
This is how extremist movements work. They purge from the inside first, Trump is just too stupid to realize that so he messed up by not getting rid of any internal opposition when he was president. A normal fascist would have known to get their own house in order before externalizing their viciousness.
Now, I'm just a small town landlord, but I'm preeeeeeeeeetty sure this would be in blatant violation of any contract this dipshit would have entered into with the representatives campaign organization. Eviction without cause isn't a thing.
Since it's not residential, it's not subject to the fair housing act, but Buck has easy cause to sue this dipshit for contract violation, and all the associated hardship his lawyer can dream up.
Screwing yourself to own the... Republicans?
The eviction begs the question as to what the material breach of the lease agreement is exactly. A commercial landlord evicting someone over politics seems both stupid and bad business.
stupid and bad business
Welcome to MAGA land.
Republicans are now the party of Retribution. Period. Trump announced it and the party cheered and loved it. Everything with them is all about Retribution. Everyday is a new example of it.
Weird just how many leopards are going around eating Republicans' faces
Wonder if this will change his opinion on tenants rights?
I know that's a teenage kid, but how big a loser do you have to be to wear a Donald Trump T-shirt? Is he a Rittenhouse in training?
Ugh, kids often emulate the behavior of their parents. I voted R in several national elections before figuring out that the people for whom I voted were complete idiots, and all because of what my family said I should think.
Centrist Republican's are not going to do anything that is slightly controversial because they are scared, period. Many can't afford the security teams like Romney who is reported to spend $5,000 a day. And many Democrats are sitting on their hands as well rather than be targeted. There was time when death threats were taken seriously by FBI, etc. It is now A thing and it seems no one is doing anything except the occasional news blip. If you were a bright young person would you be looking to get into politics? Yeah I know - you don't have to be bright and that's the problem
Look at that sterling display of empathy by a MAGA extremist.
Wons said he wasn't aware of the death threats that Buck was receiving, but did say Buck should make sure he is acting in the best interest of his voters.
"The only threat that I am aware of is that Ken Buck has received is you are going to get ousted from Congress if you don't do what the people say," Wons said.
Republicans will be out of power for the foreseeable future in 2025
One can dream. Reality is, the republican billionaires that own most of our media(especially fox news and twitter) will keep pumping out that propaganda. These guys have been inept for a long time and they are still in power.
I wish. It’s almost once a month we hear about a completely BS map drawing done by the GOP that is confirmed as removing voting power from people not them. They are doing everything to keep their power.
Makes you wonder what the deal to get that office space was contingent on.
At what point do you stop and wonder... "Hmmm... are we the baddies??"
But, by all means, continue to tear each other apart from the inside, it's quite the entertainment. More than enough felonies to go 'round!
Imagine that! MAGA wants to kill a member of the Freedom Caucus.
It's almost like if you encourage a bunch of ignorant fascists to obstruct the government and threaten violence against anyone they disagree with, you may end up being obstructed and have violence threatened against you. How could they have possibly seen this coming? /s
Is this, is this what happens when a leopard...eats your face?
Asking for a friend.
Ah yes the party that whines about “cancel culture” and “free speech” 24/7.
