Beers first
Arms inside the tubes
No swords necessary
Top marks for drinking the beer, wearing the tubes, necessarily feeding one another
Surely calls for office chair jousting
Take it to a daycare! At my sons in Craigie we could take anything like this and they would use it for play or art
What a blast from the past. Grew up in Craigie, Cambewarra primary school and Craigie senior high school. I heard both are gone. Was a great suburb in the 90/00s
Still is a nice suburb i reckon
For sure, when I was a kid it was the outer suburbs. Not so much now
This!
Given the amount day care charge surely they'd give $500 for this
Go out to the street and challenge all your neighbours to a duel, to the death. Winner owns the whole street.
I sneakily come to such fights with the 2.5m long & 10mm thick ones from the skips out the back of Carpet stores.
I have 30 or 40 of the buggers that I don't need any more as I've finally sorted out all my posters so they're flat and protected.
Seems a shame to just biff them all (the tubes not the posters) so I was wondering if anyone wanted them, or had a (practical, not anatomically impossible) suggestion what I can do with them. Otherwise it's the dump!
I do live 4 hours north of Perth so of anyone was keen you would need to wait for the next time I'm heading down. Unless you live near Gero, then I can pop over sometime next week.
Find a local artist in Gero who ships their artwork and offer them up to them to save on shipping costs?
Perth Zoo uses these tubes for enrichment for the animals... if you are heading down to Perth at any point, give them a call and see if they want them.
That's very cool! Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm in Gero in a few weeks if you want me to collect them and offer them to the zoo or a wildlife place for enrichment
Printing shop at a university might take them. They print a lot of posters and they normally don't come with tubes because students are poor.
I'm happy to yoink at least 1-3 for poster storage, I feel terrible rolling mine up but I need space to not deal with the clutter.
Also ask your local TAFE if they need some for art supplies. They definitely have more use for them.
A kindergarten or pre primary would probably like these. So many activities and play possibilities.
Pretend they're Didgeridoos and make brrrrrrrrrrrr noises into them
Single use potato canons?
This is the only correct answer.
Post on your local buy nothing page!
This sub hates Facebook, but it's the answer to any "who want's this shit? " question.
I had a metric shit-tonne of concrete footpath slabs, which would have cost me fortune to dispose. A guy from Facebook arrived with a friggin' forklift and a truck and took them all away, to put under his farm shed.
The secret is to have them on the verge, on pallets, and not worry about time wasters.
I don't have FB.
It's an app you can get for your phone or PC. Download it, then use it for marketplace. It's much better than Gumtree if used correctly.
Yeah I know what FB is. I don't have it. Because fuck the zuck.
Bonk your sister over the head with them.
Thank goodness you finished that sentence after the first 3 words.
Ironically, the way you've written this reads the exact opposite way to how you intended it
Daycare/Kindergarten. They love it, craft time for the kiddos
Or if you can't find a school or daycare who is keen, Remida in West Perth accepts donations of art materials and other recycled / upcycled items, and distributes them to schools and artists who want to use them.
Find a local artist! It can save them heaps on shipping and might even be the push that helps someone get their work out there :)
Local daycare, local primary school, local community centre, etc would likely love them
Damn, they're some good sturdy tubes too! I have a stack I'm holding onto just in case, but part of me looks and these and thinks... maybe. But no, must exercise restraint.
What kinds of posters do you collect?
Movie Posters predominantly, also some concert posters.
I finally got myself a couple of poster portfolio so I can now store them flat and protect them. And admire them!
Nice. I've got myself a flat file which is a blessing and a curse. Keep up the hunt and collecting. Always good to see another poster fiend in the wild, especially in WA.
Indeed. Any particular posters you're interested in?
I used to get a lot of movie posters, art prints, and some gig stuff, but have pretty much slowed down lately. Ran out of wall space and got most of the white whales I was looking for so now really only pick up movie posters here and there.
I hear ya about wall space. Also framing is so damn expensive! And most framers are crap.
What white whales were you looking for? I have a few I still want. Japanese Apocalypse Now poster is a must have for me.
It's all a matter of being in the right place, right time I've found. It's difficult sometimes to work out how much a poster is worth. I've bought a poster for $200 only to see it go a few months later for $500 (yay!) or $50 (d'oh!). I'm finding it harder to find decent online venues.
Heritage Auctions was a mainstay but their charges (auction fee and shipping) are just obscene now. Same with Propstore. And because they're both the two best known, their prices are nearly always higher. But Propstore at least gets one-offs (like concept art) so I still use them for that.
Emovieposter are still good and espressobeans can be good – though I have been burnt from a non-send (fortunately through PayPal so I got my money back but it took several weeks). There are a couple of other UK auction houses but that's all I've found.
I kept idly thinking of doing a lot of research then a big roadtrip round small towns that used to have a cinema to hunt for old Aussie daybills. Maybe when I retire, get a caravan and join the other grey nomads.
Make a completely work safe hang glider is the only answer.
Local uni or tafe for art students
Sword fights and/or bonking people on the head. Maybe sending a poster interstate
Thongaphone!
Failing any takers - just a cardboard recycling skip somewhere with the non card ends popped out and disposed of separately
They are great to use for making cat towers. Unless you make cat towers I have no idea how this information is of any use to you though.
Make fireworks?
Or a tube xylophone?
Make a big Pringle's tube
Epic sword battle in the CBD?
Telephone for the person that length away
Some sort of Rube Goldberg machine.
Maybe some uni students or researchers might want them for when they go to conferences
Didgeridoo's
If you were closer to Perth, so many options but since its Gero, see if the post office has use for these?
Potato MLS
What to do? Bonk people on the head with them, of course!
Chop it up to equal height and make a table with it.
Jousting
In a box out the front of a post office
Community Art Centre
Local Historic Centre
Where in Perth are you located, mate? I'd be keen to grab them
I'm 4 hours north of Perth but come down semi-regularly. If you're in no hurry.
Someone else did mention seeing if the zoo wants them which I may call them as then I can be smug, and feel like I've done something good for once.
Yeah go with the zoo mate
Take the kids off , line them up and play them like the drums with your thongs
Yes please - I'm building a cat tower out of cardboard boxes - the tubes make great legs
Invest in a staple gun, wrap old carpet around the tubes and voila... custom scratch post.
Try your local scout group... They would love these
There is a business that buys them ,they pay kilo .
Some glorious suggestions here! Mine are boring and bleak in contrast. See, if some of it might come handy. I liked some practical organisation ideas, like Shed ceiling storage or Wine rack
There are heaps of them Tube ideas here I don't have an account, so I get an occasional warning to log in, clear your cookies and continue scrolling through.
My personal idea would be to cut them in various sizes and stick them together in the garden vertically, fill in with potting mix and plant something like strawberries or various lettuces (in Gero you can do it at any time), you'll have a vertical garden. They last for quite some time as planters.
Make a throne of tubes?
Stick them up your ass
It's a cylinder
Recycle
Put posters in them
Make a Fleshlight with them
Found the horse.
Wrap the posters up with meth and actually start a profitable venture
Have you tried putting posters in them?
The only answer is sword fights
Then ditch the aftermath in the recycle bins
Have a beer.
