Attend San Clemente's Special Meeting: August 6, 11am to Speak on Their "Abortion Sanctuary City" Proposed Agenda Item
PoliticsExpect great people watching. Actually, this one will be charged as this is kind of a hot topic BUT regular meetings are bureaucratic bores but the people who come out for them are characters. Think IRL Nextdoor platform. (I'm speaking generally, not specifically SC meetings).
They don’t have a hospital or any place that performs them anyway. You still have to go to another city anyway. This is purely to stir up people for no reason.
This is the doing of ONE idiot. $t3ve Kn0bl0ck. Don't want to spell his name for search terms, that's what he wants. He's on short TWO year special election term and is up again in 2022. He's just trying to get his 15 mins of fame. He'll be voted out in a few months.
Don't be fooled, him and Laura Ferguson are insane time wasters that think they can do whatever they see on big media coverage for a $5k local city council job. It's nothing, they're basically volunteering and just want some clicks, fame and reaction.
Vote. Them. Out. Keep it local. 🤙

From the Voice of OC article...
Councilwoman Laura Ferguson said the council needs to “stay in our lane,” when asked about the issue by Voice of OC, saying that while she supported abortion within the first trimester, it’s an issue outside of the city’s jurisdiction.
“It’s not even within our purview, it has no teeth,” Ferguson said. “It’s not in any way going to supersede state law.”
This all goes back to James. It was his idea

I knew San Clemente folk were a little bit out there, but after reading this it sounds like these people are lunatics.
As a san clemente resident, I just want to let you know that me and most of my peers around here are appalled by this agenda item proposal and never wanted this clown elected in the first place.
LOL the State will never let this be enforced.
Remember that Steve Knoblock has no respect for the separation of church and state. He fought hard and considers it an honor that he had the words “in god we trust” added to the cities logo.
I’m a resident of OC but not of SC. Any way I can help with my support?

Thank you!
Same city that declared themselves a “2nd Amendment Freedom City” last year…🙄
Just chiming in to say ty for posting this. Small acts lead to change, and I appreciate you taking the time to spread the word.
What a shame San Clemente has become. I grew up there and it used to be a purplish mixture of Reaganites and surf VW van types which kept it "interesting" but not nefarious (it seemed the only thing the city council was concerned about was arguing about what to do with the Miramar Theater for most of the 90s/00s). Why they have the gall to try to change something that already has been decided at the state level is beyond me. My parents still live there in my childhood home and I've already talked to them and they will be voting against any council member that goes along with this resolution.
You’d be surprised at how many of those surf types are conservative
So so so many of them unfortunately. And they bring their politics to the ocean when I’m just trying to surf and have a good day
Can’t go anywhere without people whose whole personality is politics ruining the vibe.
yup. i grew up in sc (still live here) and those “surfers in vans” are usually privileged kids with rich conservative parents. shit these vans cost upwards of $80k now lol
alot of them are anti vax, pro fetus, casually racist and super “christian” lmao
one of our most famous surfers is a full on q-anon nut

In the 90s, I always thought it should have transitioned into a bookstore/coffee shop with a stage for music acts. A very 90s idea, sure, but it would (probably) have worked then.
It was kind of a shame that the city put an end to the local bands that were playing there around '89-'91 by forcing them to have really heavy security requirements (from what I recall--it's been a while).
Is there even a facility that performs abortions in SC?
This just feels like theatrics.
If there’s a hospital they might do it there. Abortions can be done in emergency care situations, though some hospitals tell the woman to leave the ER to go to an abortion facility.
No there’s not lol. It does not matter what they say. Whether they ban them or allow them, they don’t have the capacity to perform them in that city anyway.
All these people saying they’re gonna go talk to the officials or protest or whatever. There’s no point because they don’t have a hospital or sexual health clinic anyway.
Amazing, thank you for posting this!
Lots of conservative politicians are stepping back with their abortion hardliner approach after voters in an even very conservative state Kansas voted to preserve abortion rights this week
Damn proud of so many of you
So if there isn’t even a hospital in San Clemente, what would this actually do? Deny meds to lupus patients?
Well - guess I no longer need to frequent Artifex, Lost Winds, etc. SC, kiss my ass
x
Alas, they ARE speaking for the community, just like the attempts to censor books in libraries. I choose to spend my money elsewhere.
Sometimes that is the only way to make it real- you don’t patronize the stores, the hotels, etc.
Those that want a complete ban are lunatics and those that want unfettered access up to birth are as well.

And you're a lunatic, no clarification needed
That's obvious.
This is exactly the kind of press we conservatives are looking to gain from this. This decree is effectively meaningless given there being no abortion facilities in the city but shows who we are and what this city believes (to be clear, not every single resident of course but a majority of the city) and how we’re not going to go along with the ridiculous stupidity of this state.
So keep losing your mind, screaming at the wind, ripping your hair out. You’re giving us precisely what we want.
Keep screeching so we can all see how batshit insane conservatives are.
The majority of this country wants abortions to be legal.
You’re not a silent majority, you’re a vocal minority that wants to force 10 year olds to give birth to their rapists child.
I don't know who needs to hear this, but killing babies is wrong.
Babies? Sure.
A clump of cells? Nah.
3 of the 5 city council members are against it. This is dead on arrival. Everybody calm down
