Currently have 1660 Super. What’s a good upgrade for around $300?
DiscussionYeah I’m not sure what most of that is. There’s no issues going from Nvidia to a Radeon GPU?
Biggest downside is using FSR instead of DLSS, but nvidia's offerings around $300 are kind of bad. I sold my used rx 6800 for $320 and it would kill any rtx gpu you can get for the same price.
You gotta use DDU to get rid of Nvidia drivers. Other than that, it took me a day or to get used to Adrenalin over GeForce, but I much prefer adrenalin now
Well, if you're worried about drivers: They're both equally bugged at the moment. I'm starting to get sick at how buggy the Nvidia drivers are at the moment. Such as the checkerboard bug in every chromium application. It shouldn't be a thing for so long.
AMD RX6800 is definitely a top notch choice for the moment.
It everything you want unless your playing starfield they said fuck it amd champs today lol
Google Display Driver Uninstaller. There is an option for a clean install (requires restart). Download your new GPU drivers BEFORE removing the old card
Download but don't install them until the new card is in and DDU has been used to clean up the old drivers. Also use DDU in safe mode (hold down the shift key, when selecting power>restart).
6700xt
I went from 1660 super to 3060 ti during the hiatus of gpu market, and it’s been great gpu…but 6700xt is such a great card for its price
This comes with a free $100 copy of starfield right now bringing the price down from $330 to a perceived $230. An incredible deal for a 12GB DDR6 GPU. It even has Raytracing cores.
If you manage to sell the 1660 super you could add some money to the budget before upgrading, IMO that's 100% worth it
Ehh most ppl. Don't sell their gpu until after. But I knew I was upgrading Soni sold it next day I was at. Microcenter lol
I upgraded from 1660Super to 4060 2 weeks ago and don't regret it and can absolutely recommend it. Rest of my system is Ryzen 5 5600x and 16GB Ram
If you want to stay with Nvidia, lightly used 3080s go on eBay for about $400, which price-to-performance is a terrific deal.
If you're firm on budget though, I'd go 3070 (~$300 on eBay). Note that 3080s have more VRAM (10GBs vs 8GBs), so they will likely age more gracefully throughout this generation, but the 3070 will get you DLSS, ray tracing, and should overall be a solid upgrade otherwise.
Pal this the move
Here's a list, from cheapest to most expensive options, with some cards intentionally omitted, others I might have just forgot about:
Card | Price | Performance gain |
---|---|---|
(USED) 5700XT 8GB | 150$ (ebay) | +42% |
(USED) 2060 Super 8GB | 180$ (ebay) | +40% |
(USED) 2080 8GB | 250$ (ebay) | +72% |
7600XT 8GB | 250$ | +70% |
4060 8GB | 299$ | +71% |
3060 12GB | 299$ | +44% |
6700XT 12GB | 329$ | +91% |
(USED)3080 10GB | 389$ | +181% |
RX 6800 16GB | 399$ | +139% |
Now, there is one more caveat, that AMD cards tend to punch above their weight in COD right now, but we don't know if that will always be the case
I'm not checking on the prices right now but maybe the 3060ti ? I got mine for around that price during the card inflation crisis
I’ll check it out now
I got mine me for 300$ a 3060ti is a solid choice but you might have to spend a little more unless you’re patient.
That or a 6800 would be my answer but I didn’t know 3080’s were going for 400$ until I read that above in another comment.
3060ti is a really good all around card and you keep the CUDA architecture which can start mattering really fast in general applications depending on who develops what.
If 100% for gaming, 6800 is a great card as well.
Check eBay.
Lots of AMD suggestions but I wouldn't ever give up DLSS, especially given the direction that gaming is going in where AI-based solutions are being used for rendering. Nvidia has a clear lead over AMD here and I expect that to remain true for the next 2-3 generations until AMD can figure something out and get it refined.
A 3060 Ti or a 3070 goes for under $300 on eBay if you want to stay with Nvidia.
Op has 1660, he hasn't been able to use dlss anyway so he wouldn't loose anything by going for AMD.
I expect that to remain true for the next 2-3 generations until AMD can figure something out and get it refined.
It won't take 2-3 generations, 2-3 years at the most
What is dlss? Is it just plug and play for nvidia cards?
It's nvidia's upscaler that renders the game at lower resolution and then scales it back to real resolution with ai. As a result you get much better image quality. For it to be used it needs to be implemented to the game so you can't use it in any game. But if game has it you can just toggle in on in game settings.
Thanks everyone. got a 4060 TI
$350 - 6750XT or 3060Ti
Brand new it would be a RTX 4060 8GB or a RX 6700 XT 12GB and the RX 6700 XT is the better buy. If you went into the used market the RTX 3070 8GB or if you're lucky a RX 6800 (XT) can both be found around $300 on reseller sites.
Consider selling the 1660 Super for ~$100 into the next card. AMD is going to be the best for CoD, Halo, and any competitive games now. With the way games are using AMD hardware (in consoles) they're the best bang for your buck.
Any other games you play? If it’s mostly Warzone (I personally mostly play Destiny 2) you don’t need much. A 3060/3060ti would be a good upgrade to mostly stick to Warzone/esporty games. Would you say you play AAA games around 40% of the time?
Imagine putting warzone into the same graphics tier as esports games 🫠
A 7600 probably maxes his 1080p144 monitor... Not the heaviest game around if you're playing Basic/Medium settings.

Are their compatibility issues with GPUs like their are CPUs?
No
The issue is the price to performance. Its a bad card for its price.
There actually are, physical GPU size (as in it won't fit in your case) and having a PSU with not enough wattage. Can't have a RTX 3090 with a 500W PSU for example.
For around 300$ the GPU's you can buy won't most likely be a problem though in either department.
There isnt one. Save up
why are you booing him, he's right
Used 3070 or a new 4060. 3070 is better performance than 4060 and could be had for $250-$300 used.
A used 2080ti or 3070 will be huge upgrades for that price. If you can stretch to $400 used, you really can’t beat a 3080 and it’d probably last a lot longer, it’s still formidable in new games.
There are outliers like Starfield where comparably priced AMD cards like 6800XT perform better, but the 3080 has DLSS. Nvidia’s DLSS Performance mode is far less taxing than AMD’s FSR Quality mode, while looking about the same, which effectively raises its performance in comparison. And it’ll beat any 6000 series AMD card handily in ray tracing, which is becoming more and more common in new games (not necessary but it’s a huge leap graphically when implemented well).
That said, you need a decent power supply (750w) for a 3080. So watch out for the power requirements of what you upgrade to if you’re coming from a 1660.
man I am stuck too. Sold my 3060ti just cuz of vram but I am conflicted now. Some say 8gb aint enough same say its good enough for now. I can get 3070 or 6700xt for $300 easily.
Used 3070 for less than $280 are easy to find. I bought 2 used 6800XTs for me and my bro for $360 each if you can splurge a little more I’d go that route and quadruple your performance. Though it doesn’t really matter if your monitor is only 1080p 144hz, a nicer card will need a higher refresh rate monitor or go up go 1440p.
I paid $200 local for a 3070, can’t beat that value imo
What's your CPU? And are you bottle necking it already?
I think an intel i7. I did the benchmark test on cod and my CPU bottleneck was 1% while my GPU bottleneck was 99%
If you mostly play cod/warzone go amd, their graphics cards seem to do better then nvidia in cod games. Don’t ask why they just do lol. Grab a 6700xt for $320 on Amazon right now.
I also currently have a 1660 super but i think in the current gpu market it would be smart to wait for the 5000 series gpu’s to come out assuming you want rtx like I do. I eventually plan to get a 5070
I mean, time will tell, but it's not a forgone conclusion.
If recent trends are to be projected into the future, inflation/low supply issues for the 30 series of cards really screwed up the MSRP on new cards. The 40 series cards are solid products, but when you look at their price-to-performance, are overpriced compared to the 30 series MSRP (~40% faster, but for ~70% higher price). That wouldn't necessarily matter if the 30 series cards were still inflated like they were a year or two ago on the used market, but they simply aren't anymore - you can buy a lightly used 3080 for around $400 and they can even come with a warranty.
That said, the 20 series cards were largely seen as overpriced relative to the 10 series cards back in the day, so maybe there is some market strategy on the part of NVIDIA and AMD to ensure that building a mid-range rig is always somewhat attainable.
I hope I'm wrong when I say this but, I simply think the days of a $500 70 card or $700 80 card are behind us. With the vocal frustrations around the pricing of the 40 series cards, one would hope that would provide enough downward pressure on the price for the next generation to win back those that were priced out of that series, but effectively no other "luxury/enthusiast" commodity is doing that in this economy. Again, I hope I'm wrong.
I have the same card and was also looking to upgrade. I was looking into a 3060 12 or 4060 8gb, I was leaning towards the 3060 for the extra vram. The 6700xt is an excellent choice but my psu is only 500 watts, I don’t know about yours but people say you would need a 650 watt psu for it to be safe. Which goes over your budget. The 3060 and 4060 are both $300 on Newegg, you could look for a better gpu on eBay but I haven’t checked that myself
the cheapest 3080 or some 3070s for sure
Running a 1660 Super right now with my Intel 10700 32GB of Ram System....
I'd only go personally Radeon myself if i had an AMD Processor system, Otherwise gonna find me a 3060TI or 3070 soon as prices reasonable and grab one is my plan right now, i'd settle for 4060 if i had to though i suppose
Recently bought an open box 3070 from zotac for 300. 2 year manufacturer warranty.
2060 super lol
It's a joke but here come the down votes lol
you should be able to get higher framerates than that in those games. I have the same card and at 1440p low settings can pull 144 frames easy. What is your cpu?
An intel i7 I’m pretty sure
meaningless without the actual generation number. it's like saying you drive a ford, It could be a 2003 or a 2016, and they are wildly different. If you type "system information" into the little search bar by the start menu it will pull up your system info and under processor should say something like "12th gen intel core i7-12700k"
the Gen and the number after the i7 are what's actually important. If it's 7-10th gen you would get a better performance increase per dollar by purchasing a new motherboard and processor.
Ok thanks for that input man
A used 3070 Ti is about all you're going to get on the NVIDIA side for $300 right now. Even though it's faster than the 6700/6750 XT, they both have 12GB of VRAM which will put them ahead in VRAM limited scenarios for less money. So, I think they're worth considering if you the NVIDIA feature set isn't a deal breaker.

Used 6800s on EBay are looking pretty good right now, and the prices may keep going down since the recent release of the 7700XT. I recently got super lucky and picked up a 6800 (An almost 3x performance increase from my 1660) which had been opened but never used for $370, currently waiting for it to be delivered. If you can manage to find even a used one around that price, you won’t be disappointed.
Used 3080 100%

For around $50 more you can get a used Radeon RX6800 with 16gb of VRAM.
If you want the 4th gen RTX, then the 4060 is an okay choice, but at some point in the next few years the 8gb of VRAM will be a slight issue, especially if you want to use raytracing or upscaling.
