“Warm water port”
“multi polar”
Calling the CCP the CPC
NATO expansion
Help me out with this one
It's Chinese Communist Party in English, and Communist Party of China in Russian
Technically their official name is Communist Party of China (CPC). For some reason CCP just caught on more in the western media, probably because it's literally easier to say.
Chinese Pommunist Carty
Not really
CPC is meant to signify that irs not a party of Chinese communism, but a party of communism, that happens to be in China
It's more formal and correct, many pro-western outlets use it since its the intended meaning
I mostly just knew that a lot of terminally online tankies do the whole “aktually it’s the CPC not the CCP 🤓” thing before spouting off some multi polar shit. Didn’t know it was a thing that actual western outlets use. Thanks for letting me know.
I genuinely didn’t know it was a shibboleth.
I just always assumed CPC was the convention, since other communist parties also use that format (CPUSA, for example).
The strategic warm water port of texas oblast
- Posts random crap in non-political subs (often times sports related) from time to time in order to mask their propaganda posts.
- only ever posted a few things a year or more ago completely unrelated to politics. Also posted the same day you are checking, about a very hot topic, political issue.
- post exclusively extremely divisive political content
This reminds me of an American I know in real life because we practice a sport together. Awhile back I found his Reddit when he posted about the gym we train at together in the sub for that sport. Anyway definitely not a Russian, but all of his Reddit posts are on that sport sub and various tankie/socialist subs sing everything you missed. I think much of what we see is ordinary people sharing/repeating what they did get from Russian propaganda - maybe even second hand.
Randomly starts off their political opinion with their race and that they live in a swing state is a big one.
As a black woman voter who has had 50 abortions and voted for Obama 70 times in Wisconsin, I think it's extremely suspicious to start off a comment that way.
• Seems to post so many comments that they must be getting paid for it
• Claims to be American but uses British spellings/words (e.g. colour; mum)
Bonus points if they forget to use, or misuse articles like “the” and “a”. These don’t exist in Russian.
I haven't seen that one for a while, that was very 2016.
I was curious if the Ukrainian company, Grammarly, was doing business there and according to Wikipedia, they stopped all business with Russia and Belarus after the invasion.
Bingo they've definitely gotten better, and weren't even that bad then. Hell, as I recall there was a big/popular named poster in 2016 whose name I cannot remember that basically disappeared from the main political subs the minute one of the Russian troll farms got shut down. Also, reddit is filled with teenagers, and they aren't all that keen on proper grammar, etc. Hell, the average, even "educated", public sucks at sentence construction.
Good old 2016 throwback for sure. Occasionally it still pops up.
This is the biggest one i notice on instagram. People having very strong opinions on Canadian politics with blank profile pictures and Russian-like broken English.
Trudeau very bad. He destroy country and make ally with Banderites and Nazis. Make Kanada great again my fellow patriot!
I feel like the sentence structure one was always more telling since you can fix grammar errors but it's harder to fix assembling a sentence in your home language.
Imagine if someone made an AI tool to read a social media account and recognize the original language of the commenter from grammar choices
• The account is old and has been inactive before suddenly turning into politics.
I'm in this picture and I don't like it.

Hate that one trick.

At least in some cases it's just a default username and someone legitimate who wants to post politics from a burner (or doesn't give two shits about account names) may use them. When Youtube implemented the new username system most people got assigned one and didn't bother to change. So not a foolproof giveaway of a bot.
Fuck.
Paying for Twitter
It's possible to spot common russicisms, but only if you know the language – including modern lexicon – very well. I've seen some non-native speakers spread some incredibly wrong "facts about russian language that help spot a bot" with confidence and impunity. This is a game for native speakers, i think.
The quality of Russian trolls farms has gone down lately; it’s pretty obvious to tell when a poster or commenter is a Russian bot or troll poster.
It’s because all the top-tier Russian trolls got mobilized and turned to Donbass fertilizer, so they are left with the second stringers - barely computer literate.
I've noticed that their English has become a lot worse. Lots of translator tool usage.
Their initial post/comment might be okay because it is a carefully refined script, but if you try to have a conversation with them, it gets bad and quickly.
You can also tell they're not as committed to the cause anymore because the timing of their posts aligns perfectly with a work day in western Russia lol
Look at the guy in the foreground in the picture. It looks like they pulled him off the fertilizer pile.
It’s because all the top-tier Russian trolls got mobilized and turned to Donbass fertilizer
The Vladlen Tatarsky method
You forgot the most important one: they say something I don't like.
They use GPT
It'sme, I'ma Russian propaganda drone, I just suck at my job
“It’s Joeover”
“Biden should drop out”
“I plan to vote dem no matter what, but Biden needs to step down”
I mean, his polling since then is worse than predebate, and he was already slated as an underdog. As things sit, Trump is a pretty good bet to win.
I think it's disengenuous to not think that someone like Whitmer would dismantle Trump and save us from the looming fascism. If it's already likely we're going to lose, throw something at the wall - like really, do fucking anything than just screaming don't panic while sitting in a house fire. Seeing that logic doesn't make someone a Russian troll
Funny I didn’t say anything about the debate, yet you just spew all the typical astroturfing taking points.
I'm not convinced about the chicken and egg order of Russian shills and deliberate morons. I've heard some pretty similar opinions voiced IRL for years.
It's very hard to tell the difference because America has plenty of morons you just have to mirror.
Also, don't forget about the global poor morons, everyone's contributing to the circus.
I read a lot of the effort from Russian troll farms was just amplifying certain U.S. persons when they made opportune statements.
To be fair to them, Tiktok has made the job of weakening Western institutions, Western cohesion, Western liberalism, and Western values so much easier that they don't really need to try too hard any longer. Token effort, for a stack of useless roubles.
I have found the acceptance of TikTok as baseline fact by the left to be the most uneasy development since 10/7.
It’s so tough to even argue against, because there’s nothing about TikTok that is inherently bad, but have you ever met a westerner who uses TikTok regularly and thinks that liberal institutions are functioning fine? Whether populist left or populist right, chronic TikTok users are being fed an endless feed of anti-West.
Yes. But I don't think this is as momentous as people say it is. Public forums have been becoming more efficient (as in, allowing faster communication, not necessarily better) since Greece invented public debate. As information flows faster, the quality of the throughput goes down. I don't think it's as closely related to social media conceptually as people say it is. It's just that when lots of people get lots of podiums where they rapidly try to be likeable to each other, with little accountability, hilarity ensues. I seriously think our culture is to blame more than our latest technological toys.
Also, just to take a sip of the conspiracy cup. Showing discontent with “the establishment,” that “both sides are the same,” and that “voting actually does nothing” has tended to favor one party more than the other. The idea that ultra wealthy conservative nationalists would fund ways to spread misinformation like that on the internet is really no more crazy than Russians. However, I can admit that you could say the same for ultra wealthy liberals as well, who knows.
There was one time I was highly suspicious I was witnessing online voting tampering. A few years back, one of the meme subreddits had a post with one of the disingenuous “both parties are the same” messages (bugs bunny boy vs girl meme with BLM, LGBT rights, and feminism for the democrats, but otherwise “the exact same.”). The post got the most upvotes I’ve ever seen for a really low effort meme in a few hours from posting, 100K+ upvotes. And this happened during a month when a lot of negative press was coming out regarding Republican politicians and policies. I’ve never been more suspicious of coordinated online messaging.
However, unlike many Americans, I’m not basing my core political beliefs on memes. All I am certain is that social media has made us stupider and easier to spread misinformation. The idea there are not forces taking advantage of the most powerful mass communication channel of our times just seems naive. There is just no realistic way to easily weigh which “sides” are doing it and to what extent.
The thing for me is not whether or not states are trying to manipulate social media, I think they are, but it's instead whether it really matters when it's legitimately a drop in the ocean. It's just not possible for state actors to mobilize enough people to compare to the volume of stupidity Americans organically act out on the internet.
There are absolutely liberal conspiracies in media, for example Laurene Powell Jobs and her Emerson Collective are, if you're being adversarial about it, a propaganda outlet which funds ideologically aligned movements. There's lots of liberal PACs that frankly have too much money, remember when Biden trying to go after shadow donations? That didn't pan out.
Want to get even deeper in the stupidity rabbithole? There was recently a big thing in Canada about Chinese foreign interference into our democracy. Well, for fun, I was trying to find democracy-aligned analogues to the behaviour China has been engaging in and they clearly exist, not only funding media organizations as the Canadian report accuses China of but even directly financially supporting politicans that are US-aligned.
But yeah, as a rational mind must find, these things are not massive conspiracies. It's just people trying to advance their interests - sometimes even for noble reasons, and the vast majority of actual traction these movements gain is legitimate. If you convince your opposition to believe in what you believe in, that's only propaganda if you're a sore loser. Otherwise, it's a good argument. ;-/
Note: for anyone reading in a bad mood, I do not think that the US is as bad as China and I do not think that Laurene Powell Jobs is an evil overlord. I'm just pointing out that what we agree with can really color how we view this type of behaviour.
Note2: (I'm way too involved in this topic) The mainstream right winning out from anti establishmentarian speech is a new thing. It's been the left thriving off of it for decades. It's just good marketing IMO, they responded to changing tastes better.
Watch it, comrade
true
That is because KGB -> GRU active measures have been going on for decades. Just look at the JFK conspiracy theories. Why was the KGB pushing them so hard? Because Oswald was a Communist USA Marine that defected to the Soviet union that the Soviet union later booted back to Mexico.
Look at football, where both sides really are the same and the winner has absolutely no impact on policy.
People can hate the other team out of nothing more than getting their identity wrapped up in hatred.
Fuck the 49ers. The Ralph Naders of football.
You’d be correct if the winner didn’t get to make new rules favoring themselves
The Chiefs throw a ball out of bounds, then the NFL decides that the field should be widened and that the ball should be re-thrown.
The other team goes "aw shucks" and keeps playing as if this was all normal.
I don't think there are many uniformed men in Russia available to click those buttons right about now.
Meme needs an updated template
Russia figured out it was cheaper and more convenient to outsource such operations to places like Nigeria, Philippines, etc
I really doubt there are any troll farm operations directly in Russia anymore as the Five Eyes has gotten quite good at detecting them as well.
Find a replacement photo and I’ll update it

The "both parties are the same" people at least in my experience are either very far right, or very far left.
for non extreme people the argument i think is more, both parties disappoint equally but i want the disappointment at lease claiming they support policies i support.
So both sides are the same is just horseshoe theory projection
Do you guys ever talk about the Israel bots?
sorry guys you cant discuss the ongoing implosion in the democrat party, but you can keep reposting /r/politicalhumor tier memes, no problem!
Thank you for being the hands-on example
Says “bearded necks” when trying to say neckbeards.
Stop trying to gaslight people into believing Biden is competent to serve. We all saw it with our own eyes.
We saw him stutter, which he’s done his whole life. The other guy lied his ass off to justify emergency powers that will enable him to become a dictator.
Stop pretending they’re just as bad
Well, he more than just stuttered, maybe you could say that about the 2020 debate but not this one. His thoughts and speech were incohrent, and he practically got bullied by Trump for it...
I think saying he was"incoherent" doesn't tell the whole story. There were plenty of things said that we're salient, truthful, empathetic points. However, I won't pretend that they weren't endcapped by moments of blank stares and stammering that appear worse than we've seen him in the past.
Here's a fact check of the debate and it's clear that while Trump won on the basis of presentation, a lot of what he said was pure bullshit while Biden was actually closer to the truth.
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/fact-checking-the-claims-biden-and-trump-made-during-the-debate
What's really disappointing right now is just how close this is. One is a convicted felon and conman who has tried to stay in power past his term in the past, and explicitly discussed ignoring the peaceful transfer of power again, who has expressed a desire to greatly expand the powers of the presidency and has chosen supreme Court justices that agree that he's immune from prosecution for nearly any action taken while in office.
How anyone can see Trump and not think he's too dangerous to allow in the most powerful position in the country is completely beyond me.
Here's a fact check of the debate and it's clear that while Trump won on the basis of presentation, a lot of what he said was pure bullshit while Biden was actually closer to the truth.
The issue is that the former matters and the latter doesn't, especially when the issue is who is simply mentally fit to serve (they're both ancient and decrepit).
Really? We're at the stage where truth literally doesn't matter anymore?
For the average voter, yes.
Or at least, it matters less than being mentally fit to do the job in the first place.
People would rather have a guy who exaggerates, lies sometimes, and maybe doesn't have the best plans, than a guy who they think is senile.
What about a guy who tried, very publicly and with great amounts of evidence to steal an election?
We're good with that?
We're good with that?
Voters clearly are.
You don't have to convince me Trump is bad, you have to convince Bob who owns his own HVAC business and thinks Biden is senile and Trump will bring down inflation.
At this point I can only assume that Bob literally doesn't care about right and wrong. That's the only conclusion I can come to.
I cannot understand how someone can look at Donald Trump and see anything other than an amoral grifter who very, very probably paid Jeffrey Epstein to fuck a child, who spent literal decades cheating contractors, the IRS, and his business partners, who said that if his daughter weren't his daughter he'd date her, who bragged very publicly about the fact that he watched the girls in the miss teen USA pageant change, who cheated on his pregnant wife with a porn star and then paid her to keep silent.
If Bob knows those things and votes for Trump then Bob is a shitty human being. I simple can't come to any other conclusion.
Oh I totally agree: Trump is dangerous, and his speech was riddled with factual inaccuracies, but that’s not my point. It’s just that people don’t care enough to read fact checks or know enough to recognize that most of Trump’s claims are false, so their key takeaway from this debate will be that Biden is mentally unfit.
You heard Dumpty claim he could sexually assault women and you called it "locker room talk." Fuck off, vatnik.
No I didn't.
Projection at its finest.
This makes no sense to someone who genuinely believes they are the same. The same question could be asked: If Trump's the same, why does the left hate him so much? Is it because Biden is actually worse than Trump?
I'm voting for Biden over Trump, but you have to be so far your own ass to think that, to people who think they are the same, that this rhetoric only works one way.
Your counterpoint would be valid if anyone on the right were also saying they’re the same
"Both sides are the same" is the #1 way that right-wingers justify to themselves voting for people like Trump. I'm not sure what you're talking about. 95% of independents are actually closeted Republicans who are too afraid to admit that they believe some really shitty things.
Touch grass. This is almost everyone I meet in IRL, it's usually some variation of "I don't like Trump, but the Dems are exactly the same" so they disconnect and just meme whatever the funniest thing Trump said that week.
Who do you count as "some one?" I am surrounded by right wingers in suburban Texas, and I have met multiple people on the right who are not voting or voting for Trump (and a few voting for Biden), because they have said they are both the same. If you mean someone in power, then what left wingers in power are saying that they are the same?
Like if you're voting for the world's biggest and most dedicated bombs supplier behind the most documented genocide in human history.
Like if you pretend to care about Palestinians but don’t want to vote for democrats because you really actually want trump to win and set the genocide to turbo speed.
I remember seeing people on r/Defeat_Project_2025 say that "We can pressure the Dems on Palestine, but we can't pressure the republicans"
Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, no way is he not gonna be more harsh on the conflict
Shouldn't you be busy protesting Bowman?
Oh I guess mission succeeded on that front.
I don’t remember the US selling bombs to the Nazis
You're gonna be shocked when Mr. "looting starts shooting starts" cares about Palestine even less.
