I love it when I discover new music from film/tv - what’re your greatest finds from a soundtrack?
I never knew I liked jazz until I watched Cowboy Bebop. Amazing soundtrack.
You’d love blue giant
Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts are masters
Steve Conte Rain lived rent free in my mind (and on multiple playlists)
SO good!!
Truly one of the best.
It’s a tie between these:
The Lost Boys
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Gladiator
Lord of the Rings (all 3)
Sinister
Lost Boys is an incredible throwback call. Good job by you. Say hello to the night!
Upvote for Gladiator
Still 'Singles' probably
Remember the Titans (though I haven't seen the movie):
- Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – Ain't No Mountain High Enough
- Norman Greenbaum – Spirt In The Sky
- Cat Stevens – Peace Train
- Steam – Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye
- The Hollies – Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)
- Ike & Tina Turner – I Want To Take You Higher
- Creedence Clearwater Revival – Up Around The Bend
- Eric Burdon & War – Spill The Wine
- Leon Russell – A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall (edited, thanks to u/captain_aharb as I had an incorrect source listing it as Bob Dylan)
- Buck Owens – Act Naturally
- Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd St Rhythm Band – Express Yourself
- Trevor Rabin – Titans Spirit (Score)
My husband was going to pick The Big Chill, except they left off "You Can't Always Get What You Want"... so it's Remember the Titans for him as well, with an aside that he also enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy.
The soundtrack actually uses Leon Russell's version of "Hard Rain", which really suits the scene that it's in.
So it does. Thanks for pointing that out. I grabbed the listing from discogs, and didn’t think to double check it all.
(edit: Looks like I took it from the Vinyl listing instead of the CD, which does have Leon Russell listed.)
🫶🙌🙌🫶
Garden State
ETA: Also Reality Bites!
You gotta hear this one song, it'll change your life.
Shins
Could be one of the best
For me it’s Garden State by a mile
I'm the ultramodern version the American man...
Any Tarantino movie
I was just thinking about how good the music is in Kill Bill, especially when she's having her H.H. sword made!
O Brother, Where Art Thou has the best movie soundtrack
IIII- AM A MAAAAAAN
OF CONSTANT SORRROOOOW
Oh my lord the movie is amazing too!
Soooo good!!
My dad bought a bootleg cd of this at some dunghole flea market in Alabama 20 years ago on a fishing trip. Trip was rained out and it was on repeat for a whole weekend in the car. It lives in my head to this day.
The 60s Mission Impossible tv series. The 5/4 theme tune is a gem, and the incidental music is full of suspense. They used the same music in all the episodes I've seen, so one is probably enough.
Peter Gunn had an awesome theme song
The Big Lebowski
Dazed And Confused
Rushmore
Oh man yes! Solid soundtrack
Damn, posted some of my faves but now I realize I forgot all the Wes Anderson stuff. Rushmore is my fave but all of them are so good depending on your mood and how you relate to the film
The Wall by PinkFloyd. The Wall was released in 1979 as an album. In 1982, Pink Floyd The Wall was released as a motion picture based on the album The Wall. Historically unique, tragically heartbreaking, and life changing pieces of art. Both the album and the motion picture take the listener and the viewer to deeper depths than imaginable. Highly recommended.
A tip: Do not get a root canal while listening to The Wall. I've already done it. Avoid it at all costs. The music plus the sound of breaking jaw bones and the smell from drilling is a sensory experience like no other.😐😆😅🤣😂
Scrubs
Pulp Fiction
Last Action Hero
Forrest Gump
Queen of the Damned got me into hard rock
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
The best

Temptation - New Order
Perfect Day - Lou Reed
Lust for Life, Nightclubbing - Iggy Pop
Sing - Blur

PS: i was born in 2002 if you’re wondering how i didn’t know some of these before i watched the movie lol
Donnie Darko
Echo & the Bunnymen....let's goooo
I watch Legend (1986) for two reasons only: the incredible performance by Tim Curry and the soundtrack. Bryan Ferry's Is Your Love Strong Enough? being the only reason to stay till the credits.
Pretty in Pink or Singles That’s a very GenX answer
I almost said Prett I'm Pink myself. That one was such a part of my formative years.
Empire Records
Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and any Cameron Crowe movie always has a great soundtrack
The Lost Boys
Thanks for making this the most controversial post. I can just hear that epic saxophone!
Thank you for adding that. The six playing pelvic thrust was just what I needed in my eye sockets
- Requiem for a Dream
- 28 Days Later
- Sunshine
- Gattaca
E.T., north by northwest, Tarzan, lion king
Tarzan is such an awesome answer. Those songs are permanently in my head, and lowkey make me emotional from nostalgia :)
You'lllll be in my heart....
Phil Collins is The Man
North by Northwest for sure. It's fun to listen to by itself and couldn't fit the movie better.
Love the Bernard Hermann Hitchcock soundtracks
Judgement Night
My favorite soundtrack is pretty easily "Brokedown Palace". I even eventually watched the movie because I liked the soundtrack. (I realize that's a bit backwards but I bought the soundtrack just to get the Delirium/Sarah McLachlan song "Silence".) A few others:
- "Great Expectations" (1998 version)
- "Frankenweenie"
- "D.E.B.S."
- "Jennifer's Body" (I have not actually seen this movie)
- "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night"
- "Cosmopolis"
Both Netflix shows. All seasons have good soundtracks. But these shows were both introductions to the artists for me
Sex Education - Ezra Furman
The End Of The F***ing World - Graham Coxon
Sex Education was so good, and I've been obsessed with Ezra Furman ever since!
Ezra's music reminds me a lot of Bowie
Wow, that hadn't occurred to me before! I'll be listening with new ears from now on.
Top Gun (1986)
First Season of Westworld was the first thing that came to mind. True Detective S1. Twin Peaks S3.
Westworld is cool too bc they tweak the songs and really make it their own..
I'm a sucker for Joe Hisaishi's work on Studio Ghibli movies. My favorite scores by him are from Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle
Life Aquatic
Royal Tenenbaums
The Crow
The lost boys
The Crow.
Actually … check out the Godzilla 2000 soundtrack …. For such a terrible movie, the soundtrack is pretty good

The Assassination of Jesse James by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis;
Upstream Color by Shane Carruth;
The Nightmare Before Christmas by Danny Elfman;
The Adjustment Bureau by Thomas Newman
Pete's Dragon
The soundtrack for the movie "The Last Unicorn," by the band America.
Too right, I second this! (Also, love your username!)
Thank you. My user name has nothing to do with the Die Hard movies, by the way. It's an homage to renaissance festivals. I've been attending the one in my home state for 30 years.
That's why I loved it. Retired rennaissance festival stage performer here. Three different festivals, I road-rennied it briefly as well as my home festival!
May I ask which festivals?
Pittsburgh, Texas, and Colorado. I was ready to do Great Lakes and Arizona when I got hurt and could no longer perform.
I'm really enjoying y'all's conversation, it's SO kewl to watch a budding friendship!
All three seasons of Netflix's Dark have an amazing soundtrack. Ben Frost's original music for it was amazing, but I also really enjoyed the other music/songs they used in the episodes, too.
This is my answer, too! I was looking to see if anyone had said DARK yet.
The Matrix ost still rocks
Metropolis 1984 by Giorgio Moroder - Adam Ant - Bonnie Tyler - Freddie Mercury, etc

Once Upon a Time in America
Morricone really speaks to me with that collection.
Forever choice is Singles.. newer favorite is There Will Be Blood (Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead is a brilliant composer)
American Gods
Thay one was ridiculously good. So was The Sandman's first season!
Tangled
Miami Vice
Pirates of the Caribbean and Umbrella Academy
I'd say Phantom of the Opera from song to song. As a kid, I didn't appreciate every song, but since then I always loved the Gothic atmosphere it had. Plus, the story holds a place in my heart.
Trainspotting
Megamind
The Craft
Lost Highway.
It's just so good
Sucker Punch has a great soundtrack
Pulp Fiction. The Perks Of Being a Wallflower. The Amazing Spider-Man 2. And The Top 1 Spiderman: Beyond The Multiverse

Scrubs had tons of great music. Rick and Morty have had some bangers.
Sling Blade
Big Night
Goodfellas

Blade Runner (1982) is a classic, for good reason.
I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed Falling Down (1993)’s soundtrack.
Shows: Freaks and Geeks and My So-called Life
Movies: The Crow and Trainspotting
All of John Hughes films had great 80s soundtracks
Queen of the damned
Les Miserable and Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Oh Brad
américain horror s1
Saturday Night Fever and Grease
Repo man (1984) Pulp fiction
Prince of Egypt. Growing up Christian has it perks lmao
i saw a post/meme once that was like, "I leave my religious trauma at the door when in comes to this movie" lmao and i felt that
Repo Man (Emilio Estevaz)
Lost Highway
I'd say across the spider verse. It has such an indepth and amazing ost with great Spider-Man themed songs. Metro booming Lil Wayne and many others worked together to pull off something amazing. And the way it blends into the movie so flawlessly is simply amazing. If you haven't had a chance highly recommend both the movie and the soundtrack together and separately
Deadpool
Queen of the Damned
Friday
Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2
Pulp Fiction
Star Wars (most of them)
The Breakfast Club
Black Panther
Dead Presidents
American Gangster

Closing theme from Little House on the Prairie and fun fact before you laugh — much of the music came from Bonanza. Michael Landon bought the catalog, scripts etc.

Im aging myself, but I still think the 90s Romeo + Juliet has one of the best soundtracks to this day
The greatest showman
Crooklyn
The Fountain is my favorite off the top of my head
Daredevil (2003)
Secret Life of Walter Mitty! And Her is very good.
Peaky Blinders.
Orphan Black (The show itself, on the other hand…)

Spirit: stallion of the cimmarron
Scrubs
Rushmore was one of my favorites growing up. Most Wes Anderson films have really good soundtracks- can't actually think of any that I don't enjoy.
The life aquatic strictly for that instrumental when Steve is in his wetsuit ❤️
Entourage, euphoria and the wire would probably be my personal favorites
Waves, I watched it solely for the soundtrack and both the soundtrack and story exceeded my expectations
gossip girl
ok, not my favorite tv show soundtrack ever, but when i was 14, gossip girl put me onto bright eyes, elliott smith, beach house, the national, florence and the machine, frank ocean, sky ferreira, and many many more.
some really good gems in that ridiculous but glorious tv show
Westworld
death proof
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
