We are /v/ictorious, bros
Video game adaptations are such a weird thing for me. They don’t have to be as trash as they always are. For some reason they always try to cram in as much crap and member berries from the games as possible and it sucks. Like the mortal mom at movie was a great example of how a good movie was right there but they decided to make a shit one instead. The opening scene with scorpion and subzero in Japan was 10/10 and by far the best part of the whole movie. The big thing it did was be something different from the games, so often movies just offer up a worse version of the experience in the game that they explain with tons of exposition for people who haven’t played the games. We could have genuinely had an awesome origin story for those two super popular characters and appearances from other characters that would have been present at that time. Instead we got a bunch of shitty exposition dumped on the worst audience insert ever (Cole) and a series of excessive fights that managed to be worse than what you can experience in the game.
Reading this, I was thinking "I don't remember a scene with Scorpion and Sub Zero in Japan". Then I realized you weren't talking about the Mortal Kombat movie from 1995.
The 1995 one was a bad movie, but at least it managed to be funny throughout.
