it’s inescapable
whats this screenshot from? the documentary idiocracy right?
is it still relevant today?
some could say! some could say its…not even a comedy
Wow, but is it underrated though? I sure hope not 🫣
They feel so enlightened for saying it's relevant "today" as if people weren't going "so true!" about it as soon as it released. It was released right in the middle of the Bush era for God's sake, when this type of "satire" was abundant.
“It’s so true, it’s a documentary!” they say as they also refuse to analyze why it’s true.
Consumerism and stupid politicians were invented in 2020.
John Consumerism invented planned obsolescence in 2019, it's all been downhill since then
clearly they were invented in 2021 smh
You mean 2016
I wish politicians were actually stupid but these days I'm pretty sure they actually get off to sadism like it's their fetish tbh.
you couldnt make team america today world police documentary haha so true america fuck yeah pussies dicks fuckin each other and we all get fucked especially assholes, puke haha, matt damon
did u know that some ppl are stupid? more groundbreaking news at 8
in my 303,877 hours of watching Shrek 2 I never noticed that!
Idiocracy is a documentary
Also
Ripley tied with Sarah Connor for best strong female lead ever
And tied with Tom Cruise being a cameo in Tropic Thunder
“Omg I didn’t know it was him until the end credits?”
You kidding?
yeah yeah that’s cool and all but did you know Christian Bale inspired American Psycho off of Tom Cruise?! Tom cruise really is a psycho! omg!
But did you also know Leo actually cut his hand in the scene in Django!
Viggo Mortenson broken toe Lord of the Rings
DID YOU KNOW THAT????
Because Tony learns from his mistakes.
Tom Cruise is in the book, Mary Harron was too much of a coward to keep that scene though.

True jerk
They say it’s a comedy but I think it was the most terrifying movie I have ever seen
These people are dumb as shit. I just watched this movie for the first time the other day and it’s just so silly and over the top, which I enjoyed, but if you watch it and actually think “oh shit. This is where society will be 100 years from now” you’re a fucking moron.
Yeah this is the best take on it lol. Like it’s a fun movie but it’s not a “documentary” or a piece that’s meant to be engaged in a serious sense. Like the entire films flimsy logic falls apart and is essentially just “eugenics good” once you actually start to analyze it lmao
I didn’t even think about the eugenics part haha that’s true though.
It’s not like the film doesn’t have anything that might be relevant (like how advertising in that world is portrayed), but yeah…to think the movie is “terrifying” is absolutely stupid.
Yep. The whole "the dumbass poor is eventually gonna outbred the wealthy intellectuals and plunge our country into darkness" definitely prevents me from fully enjoying the movie.
Why is the problem always solved with eugenics?! 😩
I swear there are secret agents posting about this fucking movie
the fbi agent in my google speaker told me to post it again!
Guerilla marketers imo. It just came back on Netflix today.
Only true Documentary Kino is "They Live"
I LOVE FUELING STUPID SCHIZO THOUGHTS!!!!
You clearly arent here to chew bubblegum and kick ass , nor are you all out of bubblegum
I'm here to chew ass and kick bubblegum, and I'm all outta bubblegum
Žižek noises
What about The Interview (2014)
You know the funny thing is all of those dumbasses think they would be the smart guy and not the rest of the idiots.
I mean they literally would be. That’s the point of the movie.
He's not supposed to be smart
"Idiocracy wasn't supposed to be a documentary", he wheezed from behind his neckbeard
I already didn't like Idiocracy, but all this posts are making me hate it
I LOVE EUGENICS!!! I FUCKING LOVE EUGENICS!!!!
People liking this movie is a big red flag
Why is the problem always solved with eugenics?! 😩
I swear, people will call absolutely anything "underrated" for clout. People would call "Citizen Kane" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" "underrated" if it got them attention.
Have you heard of this little sci fi flick called Star Wars? It's so underrated
Yo maybe I'm just a movie geek but I just saw this film called Avengers Endgame that I think should get some attention
lord of the ring return king underrate
I recently saw a youtube comment calling Michael Jackson an underrated singer.
Micheal Jackson isn't even that good of a singer, you know he's bad (he's bad)
Shamone
Why did the Oscars not even nominate Idiocracy for Best Documentary? Are they stupid?
Ass won instead, hard to compete with perfection.
The thing that most irks me about how much this movie gets circle jerked is they always hone in on the same aspects. It’s always about “everyone else but me dumb” or “politicians are clowns.” But never about the issues of increased consumption of pornography, promotion of sex work, blending of personal identity with commercialism, and degradation of art in favor of “turn your brain off” media. Because those are all things Reddit loves.
Uhh-uhh I mean lul it’s a documentary xD
holy shit you're right
Yeah, I didn’t see it until til last year and only because people kept bringing it up, and I was just like… it’s fine? It’s okay. It has very dated, clearly noughties/2010s writing to it, it’s not a terrible film but it’s not brilliant. And it does start to semi-explore a number of very relevant political points, but ultimately comes back to “the next generation are stupider than me.” I don’t think even fully believe that was its intention so it’s hard to be too critics on it, but given the state of its fans…
I’ve only seen it once and wasn’t too impressed with it either. And wasn’t the opening timeline sequence basically just “lol dumb rednecks keep getting married and producing more dumb rednecks while intelligent people like you and me became the minority until eventually everyone was dumb!”
Or that if you take it seriously, it's kind of making a pitch for eugenics. It blames the dystopian future directly on dumb people out breeding smart people
mm mmm love some swerf soundbites
Also what are they talking about? It's been a hot minute since I saw that movie but I'm pretty sure it fucking hates sex work and sex workers.
Was gonna say, they really snuck that one in there lol
reddit is filed with Gen Z's who cant stand anything sexual anymore. No nuance about it, nudity = bad because they all still watch movies with their parents.
You’re thinking of puriteens, they’re like 12-14. Even the youngest zoomers are out of that age range
Gen Z? Dude, Gen z is the opposite of that
Gen Z are the ones complaining about sex scenes
https://www.newsweek.com/gen-z-distate-hollywood-sex-scenes-sparks-censorship-debate-1782040
https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/sex-on-screen-ucla-study-gen-z-teens-young-adults-1235768046/
Maybe you should actually talk to some zoomers instead of basing your entire knowledge of a whole generation off of legacy media think pieces and Reddit threads
All I see is them complaining about sex scenes in r/movies
Maybe you should actually talk to some zoomers instead of basing your entire knowledge of a whole generation off of [...] Reddit threads
Like if you're basing your opinion of the general populace on /r/movies threads you read then idk what to tell you lol
lol sorry your brethren are a bunch of sexless prudes, but it's not my fault.
I'm not Gen Z lol. Seriously, go outside. Talk to people
If your not gen z then why are dying on this hill?

Yeah I like money though
These morons talking about how “politicians are clowns” and the root of evil when we know it’s the fucking OF whores!
its not that deep brah
its not that deep about the things i like but it is that deep about the things i dont like
I love to complain so yeah pretty much
So underrated. It only gets brought up once every hour. It should be on our lips every second.
its realistic cause its a movie about how people are dumb, and people are dumb.
Going through comments over there is a nightmare
Idiocracyposting and an uncropped image?
Someone better come collect their greatuncle pep-pep
Someone over there actually said Demolition Man also predicted 2020s life...
As we all know, police have become non-violent and demilitarised, and an uber-violent maverick is what we need to save us.
I just opened and Netflix and it’s right there front and center in the “newly added” section so I’m sure Reddit will be getting a lot of these posts from loser weirdos and/or guerilla marketers.
And why were you looking at a 112 day old post, OP?
scrolling through top of all time on that sub
“On January 20, 2025 it will be very unfunny.
And in 2027 it will probably be outlawed.”

It is 2006. I am 12 years old. Idiocracy is a prescient documentary.
It is 2015. I am 21 years old. Idiocracy is a prescient documentary.
It is 2024. I am 30 years old. Idiocracy is a prescient documentary.
Wake up folks, we found a new subreddit to bully
Funny thing is the movie completely missed how natural selection works.
If the dumb people somehow overtook the smart people in the world, then clearly they're better adapted to whatever the future environment is. If it involves becoming stupider to survive...then so be it.
It's like saying humans are stupider than neanderthals because we're here and they're not.
I'm not sure the whole conceit, much like that movie itself, was intended to stand up to much scrutiny
For everyone who is sick of hearing "it's a documentary!" and has almost the length of Idiocracy to watch a video about Idiocracy, I highly recommend this video.
sarah z the goat
Idiocracy = today.doc
It's birth of a nation but shittier
Which one?
Based on current events, the future will be full of Elon Musks which is actually more terrifying honestly.
Unfortunately South Africa ended Apartheid so there won't be any more Elon Musks, a 21st century tragedy

POOR PEOPLE DUMB AND HAVE TOO MUCH KIDS!
The only thing that was dead on accurate was a corporation running government policy.
Though they portray said corp as not knowing they're causing harm instead of not caring
People thinking this movie is relevant or poignant in any way lets you understand how fascist propaganda is so effective
Ah yes, Reddit’s favorite: the eugenics movie. (This film fuckin sucks dawg)
I didn't know that subreddit existed and it scares me so much to think of the aneurysm I'd get were I to even peek at it.
DAE IDICOACY A DONCUMENTARY (I am extremely intelligent)
Holy shit those comments are ass
My favorite docu-oh what the fuck. Is there even a point in saying it?!!
