I would suspect that those people, like the monkey handlers, know that if their animals are happy in their work they perform drastically better.
I send my dogs to a hunting dog trainer who has that attitude that this is supposed to be fun. My boy actually flunked out because he doesn't do repetition. You might get 2 maybe 3 and then he's like "I've done it already I don't need to do it again" and will divert on the way back from a retrieve to eat shit off the ground. And when we go out I turn him loose and the girl and I go work the field. When he wants to the boy can out work my girl who is SUPER INTENSE about her job, and make it look like he's cruising. When he's not feeling it, you'll never make him want to work.
Which is fine because we get more than enough pheasant that I don't buy chicken 8 months out of the year.
My dogs are both standard poodles, and the boy is too smart for his own good.
Sounds like ADHD
When I'm both hyperfocused and high energy I'm unstoppable. Maybe that will be at work tomorrow when I have something important to do, or maybe it will be at 3am when I have the uncontrollable urge to build the bookcase I bought last month. Who knows? Not me.
Ahh damn I might have to have an internal conversation about my yardwork from this weekend. Something may have just clicked for me.
I got to my early 30s before I came to the realisation that everyone else wasn't living day to day life on hard mode.
It might be worth googling the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale. It's the screening tool doctors in the UK use to decide whether to refer you for an assessment.
