![Woke up to this fever, how's your guys day going?](https://preview.redd.it/7zz5pamret4d1.jpeg?auto=webp&s=011aa533f55cef1c5ab6d4d09e9c4cc060e0bdea)
It smiles if your in the good too
[converts 39.7c to f] Dude, that's the sort of fever that'll lower your IQ, you good?
I was about to ask what this was in freedom units.
103.64f
I went to work with that temp once upon a time. The Tylenol wore off like halfway through. Not a good time. I also went to work with pneumonia once, also not a good time. Just standing was fucking exhausting as hell I could hardly breathe lol.
Take it from me, just go back to bed if you have a fever that high, you can tell your boss where to shove it in the morning.
The fact that we live in a society where this kind of rationale is necessary and normal is so fucking sad. There shouldn’t be any pressure to go to work if anyone is sick at all.
I also went to work with pneumonia. A week of near constant dizzy spells and waking myself and my dad up coughing, and i went to the er. ER said "it's just the cold. Nettipot and you'll be fine." Went to an urgent care two days later, and my oxygen was so low they almost sent me home with some
It still took me working with my dad for him to realize that I wasn't going home early or calling out just because I felt like it. I was stopping every 5ish minutes to put my head between my knees so I wouldn't pass out
It's about 16 rounds out of a AR pencil barrel
Freedom units...I'm fucking dying!
Otherwise known as washing machines per football field!
Shaquille O'Neals per White House.
103.46 F, according to my Google. Feeling like hospital time to meeeeeee.
Fuckin hot tub temperature but inside your head... shit man
he has at least another 1.5*f b4 he needs to worry. now if hes already on a fever reducer like Tylenol & its not going lower thats a different story.
Well that’s optimistic at least! Keep on smiling
pipboy says "radiation too high"
No matter what you’ve heard, or what people will inevitably suggest, do not use the cold shower/bath approach. Ironically, that makes it worse. It shocks your system and makes you shake and shiver to warm up, which actually causes your core temperature to increase.
The highest temperature I ever had was 105.7° in freedom units, or 40.9°C. It was the only time I’ve ever hallucinated. I went to the hospital and was given a lot of fluid, a banana bag, a shot of potassium, and they said my brain was dehydrated, which I never knew was a thing. Nothing to play around with.
That being said, electrolyte drinks and Tylenol/Paracetamol work wonders. I hope you get well soon OP.
huh til what a banana bag is
That's why the suggestion is a tepid bath. Not cold.
Reading this im starting to think that maybe I should have visited the hospital when I had 40,7
At least you woke up.
Woke up dead.
How can you wake up dead?
Cuz you were alive when you went to sleep
So you're telling me you can go to bed dead and wake up alive?
You can't go to bed dead, man. That shit would be redundant.
No it wouldn't. You can go to bed, and not be dead, and die, and not be in the bed.
But you are in the bed. That's how you wake up dead in the first place fool!
Dayum! That’s some quantum shit right there! You should be teaching classes you stay dropping knowledge
I remember having a fever go this high back when I was 19. Just laying around in bed I could feel the heat radiating from the thin sheets I was laying on
What’s this in Freedom Units?
103.46 in freedom units.
Isn’t that pretty close to “you need to go to the hospital” high for a fever? Hope you get better quickly! 🤒
Indeed it is, this is the highest it went do far, keeping an close eye on it, but no brain cooking yet!
Shouldn't you go BEFORE the brain starts cooking. I feel like this is one of those things where if you wait until it happens, it's already too late.
Honestly at this temp in adults, unless it’s rising while they’re watching you, they’d probably just make sure you aren’t dehydrated and tell you to keep a fan on at home.
Does the UK not have private minute-clinics where they see you in like 3 hours for minimal care & a bill? If you go to the ER in the US you wait forever too, so I’ve never got this complaint.
I think 103 is where you’re suggested to contact your doctor. They’ll probably check to see if you have additional symptoms before having you go in.
If you’re at 105 you should be going to the emergency room.
Ice bottle wrapped in a wet towel on the back of your neck.
Just to stunt it.. if that works, then I'd ride it out.
If not, it's time to go.. I hit 104 once and started losing my ability to speak. I knew what I wanted to say, but all that came out was incoherent
Edit: Apparently, a cold shower can cause you to go into shock. To clarify, I didn't mean ice cold, something before warm.
Taking a cold shower while having a fever is a horrible suggestion and a potential dangerous one at that.
You know, without thinking too hard on it, it makes sense that it would.
Thank you for that. I never knew cold showers are a bad idea.
Can you explain for my tiny brain? When I google it it just says it’s a bad idea but I don’t understand. Definitely not going to take a cold shower while I have a fever but want to know how to explain it
First - big shock to the system. Next up - it constricts your pores, inhibiting your ability to sweat.
How do you know you were incoherent if you were delirious?
Well, one would think they were attempting to communicate with others, who would be able to let them know that they’re incoherent
Don't know how to explain it, just know that I knew what I wanted to say but it wouldn't come out.
When my little brother was around 14 I think, his fever was at 103.4. We gave him tylenol and told him if it didn't go down, we were going to take him to the ER.
He was so delirious. For his entire life he had never even BEEN to the ER, he has no problem with hospitals/doctors, but he was ADAMENT that we don't go. We told him he'd have to take a (cool) bath then and he had no problem with that. He shivered and cried the whole time saying it was FREEZING (it was Luke warm at worst) but he was NOT going to the ER.
He doesn't remember any of this
For his entire life he had never even BEEN to the ER, he has no problem with hospitals/doctors, but he was ADAMENT that we don't go.
For anyone reading this, please don't let 14 year olds decide whether to go to hospital or not
Of course not haha. We weren't going to let him decide but he was sick and upset and there was another option at that point. He took the cool bath and obviously turned out fine 😅
It’s like when the smoke alarm goes off it’s too late. Foods burnt.
I hope you took some paracetamol (aka Tylenol)
I'm right there with ya today
Depends on how long it lasts. This is a fever, but it's not crazy high. If Tylenol and cold rags don't bring it down after a day or so, then go to the doctor. People flip out over fevers way too much
It depends on the age of the sufferer, if it’s a child then probably go to the ER if it’s steady or rising.
Isn’t this 3 degrees away from like… death?
Going that high is extremely rare. Fevers are just your body trying to push out anything nasty in your system. You should always monitor it, but 103ish is still technically okay as long as you don’t have any other concerning symptoms.
Yeah, but it's very rare your body will ever push it that far. 103 is a high fever but as long as you can knock it down with OTC medication and stay hydrated AND it doesn't stay that high for more than a day you're fine. If you can't control it at home, it starts rising, or it lingers for longer than a day you should see a doctor. If it starts climbing up past 104 it's ER time.
When I was a kid I was reading out loud off the thermometer as it went up while taking my temp. As I got into the high 104.x's my mom told me "Stop, Don't tell me, I don't want to hear it". I know at the time she was saying that because she was stressed about it, but looking back it might have been worth getting me checked lol.
Bro fr 😭 dude’s brain is cooking rn
I had a 104 once when I was a kid and my mom still didn't take me to the hospital
105 is ask for advice time. Then they will usually check for the more severe symptoms (can you at least keep water down or no, breathing, consciousness, severe pains etc.). If you can get it down a little with over the counter medicine and rest comfortable-ish, it is still safe to stay home. If not, its probably time to come in and get stuff checked out.
Thank you! The conversion to FUs helps a lot.
I was about to say..dude you’re an icicle. Tanks for the conversion!
104 is hospital. Much higher is death. So really keep an eye on it. Take a tepid bath, use OTC fever reducers. If it won't go down you need to go in.
104 is definitely NOT hospital. People really need to stop spreading this stuff. If you have a 104 fever for a few days straight, yeah should probably go see a doctor, but just having a 104 degree fever isn't instant hospitalization
I don’t know, the highest temp I’ve ever had was 102.9 F and I could hardly move. Felt like death.
I’d be seeking medical attention at 104 degrees for sure
I've been at 104 and felt pretty bad but also pretty far from death.
What the fuck is this the fever Olympics?
That's because 105-107 is seizure and brain death territory. 104 is not far behind.
It's not instant hospitalization. I never said you'd be admitted. It's definitely go to the hospital or urgent care immediately. It's not misinformation that's literally what medical professionals will say because 106-107 is seizure territory.
My daughter gets scary insanely high fevers...she clocked in at 108F one time. Took her to the ER and all they said was keep giving her ibuprofen and keep ice packs nearby
Was it an Army hospital? Sounds like an Army hospital. Pretty much every treatment plan is take Motrin and drink water.
My grandmother was in labor for a LONG time at an Army hospital.. they kept her in a back room and just ignored her.. she'd scoot the bed to the door and call for a nurse, they'd come and push the bed back and walk out again.
Damnit Doris, we'll come to you when it's time to have that baby!
When I had my first kid, you didn't get a single OB for the process, just whoever was in shift at the time.
The whole medical team changed shifts during my Son's birth... not during the labor process, literally during the birth. Fortunately we had a our second kid at a base that didn't have an actual hospital, so we did it in a civilian hospital with the same OB through the while pregnancy process so the way to delivery.
Yeah my son had a rapidly rising fever that was up to 104+ when we hit the ER and they said the same thing…. As long as he’s not struggling with anything else just treat it with otc stuff and ride it out
Not really yet. Around 105 is definitely get it checked and start asking if you need to come in. They will usually still recommend you ride it out depending on a couple factors (e.g. how comfortable are you, how long has it been high, does over the counter medicine lower it, can you stay hydrated, lots of pain?, breathing normally?).
Edit: The 105.8 I first put there, should be 105. I go with Celsius and I wanted to say 40.5
Hotter than a black bear colder than a bald eagle.
LOL what a great term! Just yesterday I had a high fever myself and had to translate for an american friend. I'll use it from now on!
°C = global unit °F = hillbilly unit
Fact
Genuine question from a non American, and please don't take it as an attack because it's something that crosses my mind every time I see a comment like this.
Do you say this as a joke or do you genuinely want to know what it is in Fahrenheit? If so why not just google it?
Or is it a genuine belief that American systems of measurement are better and you're reminding us of that?
It’s a joke…that’s it.
I think it all tracks back to the war in Iraq. When France wouldn’t go with the program the Senate made a show of silliness. Even renaming French fries to freedom fries in their cafe or whatever. This kicked off years of freedom jokes in American pop culture. It’s just a remnant of a worn out joke from the past.
Gday, I woke up with COVID so we’re in this together!
I have covid too, it's my 4th time with it! Hope you get better man
Jesus, I forgot people still got COVID. Feels like something from a distant past. Get well soon my dude and be careful with the Long Covid (my dad had it, it's no joke).
I got covid for the first time last month, the virus has not gone anywhere.
Feels like something from a distant past.
In most countries there has been more covid in the last 12 months than during 2020 or 2021.
We're currently entering what looks like it will be one of the biggest waves of the pandemic. Covid hasn't gone anywhere.
A person we knew, their relative needed a double lung transplant due to covid... I don't think they were going to make it.
I hope you feel better soon! I've had Covid 2-3 times myself and it's not fun. Luckily, my symptoms were decently mild, but losing my taste/smell for a full week in 2020 was the worst.
Is that why your avatar is wearing a mask? Just curious
Nah, I get sick really easily, so I wear a mask irl in public spaces.
Ok I really don’t want to come across as trying to diagnose you here but have you tried talking to your doctor about immunodeficiency especially if your gotten Covid 4 times and waking up with a fever this high. Again not trying to diagnose you just want to raise awareness it’s not that well known and can be pretty nasty in super rare cases
They definitely know about it if they wear a mask all of the time
All I got from what they said was they know they get sick easily so they wear a mask, but some people just leave it at that and don’t think it’s anything serious or think to make an appointment with a doctor about it
Yeah thats about the upper limits of not having to go to a doctor lol
Tbh I would probably go to urgent care with that sorta temperature
I feel like sitting in a waiting room is only going to make me feel worse and maybe spread whatever I've got. It should come down with paracetamol. If it doesn't or continues rising or there are other worrying symptoms (e.g. rashes, sore neck, continuous vomiting) then I'd call the urgent care line.
If you’re a healthy adult, 40 C is typically the moment you need to be concerned and even then, urgent care isn’t always necessary. If it’s constantly rising and you have other obvious symptoms, sure, but there’s also only so much you can do.
Body temperatures and fevers differ from person to person as well; I’ve had a fever over 40 C four or five times and it’s never been life threatening. One of them was pneumonia as a kid, but the other times were just a particularly high fevers.
Well my fucking 20 year old cat just died around half an hour ago in front of us
Dude so sorry to hear that. My sons cat, whom we all loved, died in his arms about 6 weeks ago. It's a shame they can't live as long as us. My condolences.
Thank you. I'm sorry to have heard what happened to your cat as well
So ... we're going to completely ignore OP and make it about your problems? Sorry about your cats, but c'mon
OP wrote “how’s your guys day going?” in the title of their post
I'm really sorry pal
I’m so used to Fahrenheitthat I thought it said your temp was 397°F. My first thought was “so you’ve burst into flame and are beyond boiling. Well you’re screwed.” 😂
And then you wonder if the dudes got hypothermia at 39.7F and is just an icicle
Mildly inflamating
Drink plenty of fluids, take some medicine, eat some light food, and rest. Feel better soon.
Well, sorry to hear about your fever. My day's been pretty chill, just hanging out and enjoying the day.
Get well soon! Pretty much boring day with nothing to do and suffering from terrible pain in the neck which is making it more difficult to be productive!
Reads in American The only way I know this is bad is because of the frowny face.
It's about 103F in freedom units.
Oh yeah not good.
Americans are losing their fucking minds in the comments.
It's funny, "go to the hospital" in between take Tylenol or Acetaminophen, which are the same thing.
:(
Better than yours you sick bum
Like it, no sympathy just answering the question asked without fluff 🤣🤣
It has a little sad face on it oh my god 😂😂😂
I woke up exactly 13 days ago to a fever very close to this (Around 101ish, can see it mentioned in post history)
The fever was the best of it. For the first 5 days, I had a headache in almost 5 different directions giving a piercing pain that never once stopped (both temples, forehead, left and right back temples). There was SEVERAL other major issues, but I was so fixated on the pain.
5 days where I couldn't even sleep because it never went away for a second, I told my housemate that I was terrified that the pain for so long straight for no break would cause longterm damage.
Midway through the 5th day, I finally went to the hospital via a phone appointment (here you make an appointment and take a video and health card info), yes it took that long. They diagnosed a very bad respiratory disease that caused an intense fever and pains and instantly put me on antibiotics.
I took those antibiotics, and the "headaches" and several other symptoms went away. The fever, did not. It had however, severely died down. Now I had a massive pain in my end and dizziness, I tried to get help for it but I was told "dizziness wasn't pain", but I still don't know how to explain it. It felt similar to motion sickness, but "so dizzy it hurt a lot", apparently nobody understood what that was.
This was 24/7. It is now day 9, I'm sleep deprived as hell as my brain has now underwent nonstop pain for 9 days straight. I took 3 tylenol, 2 advil, 2 gravol, 1 bendadril, and antibiotics every 6 hours while awake and sleeping medication at night. I'm actually going insane from this btw, my brain feels like it's at it's limit and i can't do it anymore, i coped by pretending i could hallucinate and trying really hard to distract myself, trying to force hallucinations of things that made me happy.
I went to the hospital now on day 10, and waited 9 hours. The pain was unbearable, I found some nice chairs I could lay on and lay there for all 9 hours, with a throbbing pain. The doctor takes blood, several normal tests (heart, pressure, etc), and takes my temperature and tell me I have no fever. Honestly, they're right, for some reason today felt like the first day without a fever. They then gave me 3 pills and an IV.
2 hours later, I felt fine, relief from pain for the first time in my entire life. Those meds were normal Tylenol. The doctors thought I was pretty weird because they just gave me everything I was taking many times a day for all 10 days, but it randomly all went away. I'm now finally on day 13 and taking my final antibiotic in 1 hour, having felt 95% fine ever since that day. I still don't know what the hell actually happened, but that was the absolute worse fever of my entire life by far, never having pain for more then 3 days lasting TEN
Unironically, I still shake when I think about what I just went through, and I'm sure lots of others have gone through similar/worse and I'm not here to pretend otherwise, for me it was a traumatic experience that felt like it would never end
Pretty good. Didn't do shit all day tbh. Had some pizza, went to my local Aldi to get some beer, got tipsy. Gonna have me a cigarette, have a walk, eat some microwave hotdogs and turn in for the night. Overall a decent day!
Good luck with your fever. Try not to die and good luck!
From what I’ve been reading in the media about climate change, a few degrees doesn’t make any difference, I wouldn’t worry about it. /s
Omg..not a fever!
In freedom units it's
I just pulled an 11 hour shift in 100+°F weather, just to get back to my apartment and find out all of our A/C units are down with no definite fix date
Just go to a 24 hour Starbucks or something.free refills on all coffee and tea
I wish Starbucks would let me sleep there lol. Definitely a good idea for during the day. It's just insane that I get home at 10 at night and my thermostat reads 90°. Like is insulation not a thing in this apartment complex or what? Lol
(Not a doctor) take some paracetamol to bring the fever down to a less dangerous level!!
That's really high... Maybe go see a doctor? :(
American here, no worries, still 60+ degrees to go! /s
Be very careful beyond 40°, it is very likely to convulse, stay very hydrated and apply fresh water to your forehead. It depends on the reason for your fever, you need to follow appropriate medical recommendations. Even though I am a health professional, I could not ethically tell you what you should take, but what I told you could help you.
calculates in Fahrenheit (103.46)
JESUS CHRIST
I'm American and concerned ur a refrigerator
Well I'm shaking like I've been in one, in freedom units its about 103f
My American ass was like “fever? Bro you need a heating pad” 😭
Fever? You're almost FROZEN!!!!
Feels like it, been shivering to the point I would class it as a workout.
Sweating balls
Feel better soon!
Get well soon! I’ve had something like this before and it wasn’t fun.
Woke up to a thermometer in your tush?
I had a flat tire, then had to drive 45 min for a work event. I got there and it was canceled. They paid for my time driving, plus some extra, so it's not all bad.
I also got to go home early too, so it's been a pretty good day!
I hope you feel better soon!
Fuck, reminds me of my covid fever. Shit was ridiculously high!
That frown is personal
I suffered the same temperature before, took a photo of the thermometer. I used it twice now to call in sick for my past 2 jobs. Very useful
Hope you're doing well now though
Man is halfway through finishing his cosplay as a star or something 💀
That seems like doctor time to me…?
Enjoy the fever dreams.
Also pretty bad, haven't slept in about 30 hours and the neighbours are launching a loud pajama party, at 2 in the morning. Hope you get well soon.
Got off work early, but I still had to work at all
Oof
shit thats the new COVID haha
Feel your pain bud. Woke up 102F. Rest up drink lots of fluids! ❤️🩹
Why did I read it at 397 and not 39.7 lmao, I was like.. lava man??
I had a 104°f temp while working in a 110°f factory. Turns out I had walking pneumonia too. When I got to the hospital my temp was normal and I was just coughing lung liquid up
I have a stomach virus and have been nauseous all day. Haven’t thrown up since like Monday or Tuesday yet though! (Fuck this week)
Been running at 101 off and on for a week and half now. Cold, clammy sweats. Nasty cough. Getting up green stuff. Freaking exhausted. Can’t walk from the front door to the back yard and back without having to stop and hack some. Pulse ox had been around 92 consistently.
Either got sick from being caught in tropical downpours , and then being in very cold a/c. Or from someone being sick at WDW. Masked in the airports and on planes. Combo? Perhaps. No one else in the family is sick. I’m only concerned because I had several pulmonary embolism’s from Covid back in 2020. Sucks since I’m not able to even get to my weights. Never mind running
Wow I wouldn't put that thing in the bed with me 😕, how'd you end up sleeping on that?
I have the same thermometer and my daughter would say you have a “sad head.”
Just over ours ! Hang in there . 😅
Its funny how u just had to post this when ur so sick
*swears in Kelvins”
That’s a spicy meatball
How many football fields does this convert to (I’m American)
I did not wake up with a fever but I did nearly shit the bed… lol
Getting over either 1. norovirus or 2. food poisoning.
Hope you feel better soon.
At first i didnt see the decimal point and was curious as to how you werent dead
That sounds miserable. Hope you got some Tylenol or Motrin and live in a place that a visit to a doctor won’t bankrupt you.
I had my blood drawn today. That’s basically it.
Sorry about your day. Covid sucks.
i haven’t slept in 3 days
39.7 damn that is nice and cool.... I would love to be out in that.... Ohh.. wait.... celsius?!? Damn you people!
☹️
Woke up to that to.
Im in the same boat! Running nose too?
103.6. Yucky. Feel Better.
I’m in a country that refuses to use the metric system. You get the better deal.
Damn (its 103F btw) that sucks ass.
Fever any lower? Feeling any better?
The :( is taking me out
My guy's day is going fine. Mines also great, if you're interested.
Time to bring on the Advil or Tylenol or whatever you can take to help get rid of it.
39.7 In freedom units. Im dead. Yay no work today
I am not sober, and it took me too long to realize this is in Celsius 😩
What temp is that?
Cool down, why are you so worked up? You are giving yourself a fever. Anyway I hope you are better now haha.
I'm American. I don't know how bad this is. It's bad, huh
How much is that in freedom units?
As an American I know I'm supposed to be 98.6 degrees. What temperature is good for Europeans?
Aww man im sorry friend, that blows, i hope cool damp rag and some light soup after rest with liquid iv, and some Tylenol does you a bit better, i hope you get better soon, and keep an eye on that temp hope you got it down.
I really like this sad face, it’s like « huuuh not good buddy »
