My GP prescribed Cafergot for my migraines. It works well, but sometimes it makes my heart race, makes me feel nervous and overly excited, and keeps me from sleeping. Has anyone else experienced these side effects? Did you get rebound migraines with regular use? Should I take it every time I have a migraine or only when it's really bad?
Cafergot for Migraines: Side Effects and Usage Advice?
Ugg its worst it’s just caffeine and ergotamine. Personally caffeine just makes my migraines 1000x worse. Really old fashioned thinking, not progressive medicine at all. I would tell your dr. your caffeine sensitive. Get off it asap. Try Imitrex as your next step. I mean there’s many different things to try but Imitrex has generic so it’s generally covered by most insurance now. It’s a good starting off medicine before you have to get into name brand. $$. If you have nausea with your migraines let the dr know and they can prescribe some type of anti nausea medicine. I prefer phenegren it’s kind of old school, but it helps be sleep too. Good luck drs can be a pain is the butt. The more knowledge you have and the more confident you are they hopefully will give you want/need.
Can using Imitrex regularly cause rebound migraines? Do you take it only when you need it, like a painkiller? Also, are you on any preventive medications?
Imitrex is an abortive so it is only used when you have a migraine. It is not a preventative. Thus you only take it when you have a migraine. If you are using it too much, you can in theory get rebound headaches. If you are needing to use it that often, you should be on a preventative.
I hope you can get on it! Triptans work like magic for me when I take them (but I do have to be selective about when I take them bc I'm chronic). Imitrex has a generic version so it should in theory not be too too expensive!
