I will have to go with the bait bottle can't be used for anything other than capturing animals and even then it's useless.
What are your choices

it’s nice to me when i take so long on a mission that it goes from night to day. i refuse to play in the day like 80% of the time
Lol just read your comment we are like exact opposites haha
yo!!! how come day though? i feel like it’s so much harder for enemies to see you at night
Enemy sight distances at day vs night make less of a difference than you think lol. Sure, enemies will generally notice you from a farther distance during the day vs during the night, but the only enemy sight distances that are actually important IMO are the distances when an enemy spots you, and many of those distances are the same between daytime and night. For example, when prone, enemies will spot you at 9 meters during both day and night. Plus, if you go at night enough times, enemies will start wearing NVGs, completely nullifying the advantage going at night gave you.
I prefer day too. Easier to see shit
makes sense. i feel like i stick out so bad though. i also love the gz suit
I play night time all the time definitely less visibility for enemies then in the day easier stealth infiltration but if you want a real challenge or more espionage points then daytime, but also doesn’t mean you’ll always stick out like a sore thumb if you have the proper camo equipped and stay in shadowy spots and low to the ground like crouched or prone. I’ve tried it and yes you notice the visibility difference but when I used the right camo and movement I was surprised to see how close enemies were who didn’t see me still. It’s definitely higher level infiltrating in the daytime and you get extra espionage points for it. It’s like a 1.5 multiplier
But it's much much harder for me to see enemies lol. At the end of the day, the code will see you (pun wasn't intended.)
So basically the enemies see me easier than i see them at night. I also play with the HUD off because I don't like the mission markers in this game.
I kinda like it for skipping night time, never been a fan of that in games. It does look good at night but od rather skip to 4am and experience a sunrise
I use the phantom cigar ALL the time. But not usually during main missions and if I do it’s a quick few seconds to like bring the chopper or supply drop or buddy quicker. I use it more in free roam/side ops and while hidden in the toilet or dumpster. Works to calm soft alerts. Tip: I take out the patrol units or else they re-soft alert the outposts/guardposts
Bait bottle is pretty bad! But other than that I'd say the land mines which where called Claymores in the older games. I always try to use all tools in my aresnal but in MGSV I find them sooo useless. I simply can't get enemies to trigger them. I've seen soldiers walk past them and tanks drive over them but myself? I trigger them easily... so sad! I remember when I wanted to do something very tricky and risky in MGS3 so I layed Claymores at the entrance to protect my back and when I messed up and reinforcement arrived it was really nice to hear the ''boom'' behind me.
Idk if it's a localisation thing. But claymores and landmines are two separate things in V.
Anyway.
claymores are really good on stairs, behind doors , pretty much any choke point. They're really effective on the Africa Missions, because the space is a lot more restrictive and tight. If you don't care about rank or not killing anyone, they're pretty much just an "I Win" button on mission 28. As you can completely booby trap the mansion and the jungle so that every door, archway and passage is impassable
Additionally Claymores can be used for aggressive sniping tactics.
Unequip your rifle’s suppressor and make a few shots. Place a mine where you made the shots. Roll away from your position. And if you did it right, the enemy will walk right into the mine when they try to “flush out the sniper”.
Or you could do a bit of alabama hunting. Use the bait bottle and then place a claymore
this is the funniest shit ive heard all day, take my upvote good sir
Claymores are directional mines that explode in one direction. Landmines aren't directional, they explode in all directions.
I am aware of that
Ok. I may have responded to the wrong comment.
I also don't care. If I wanna 100% the game I simply replay all mission at the end and sprint to the objective and get a S-Rank for time. Pretty much all mission can be played like this.
The ideal way to using the claymore in MGSV is turning off the outposts power generator then leaving a claymore behind, gets a kill every time and a broken power generator
Your comment showed me that i suck at this game.
I personally don’t like to do that only cause once the generator is destroyed when you go back to that outpost they will always be on soft alert even if you cigar speed time because the power is permanently out until everything resets with 3 story missions. And I like no traces ghosting total stealth no one knows I’m there I enjoy being like a ninja and all guards just smoking talking no one aware it’s so calm and serene at night with no alerts. I get what I need then extract no one felt I was there. Total stealth.
That's genius!
Honestly I think mines are great if used correctly. My favourite thing to do, if in an alert phase, is to go inside a building, plant a landmine RIGHT in front of the door, and then hide. Cue a soldier running in after me, followed very quickly by an earth-shattering KABOOM.
Bonus points if there's multiple doors, and you put a mine at each and every one of them.
Where is the earth shattering kaboom? There was supposed to be an earth shattering kaboom!
Haha good ol Marvin the Martian. Nostalgia strikes again.
In my game enemies trigger they're own mines i lost one S+ because of this
Bruh fr! Enemies kill themselves with their own grenades or mortars and I get blamed for it! I'm calling HR
Chicken hat because when I die over and over again it’s usually because I’m in a boss battle and not because I keep getting spotted
The most useless item in MGSV…
In my opinion is Pentazemin. Pentazemin stabilizes your hand tremors when aiming for a brief time. Which would make it ideal for sniping when you’ve been deployed in the field for a long time. Except there’s something else that does that, but lasts longer and removes any blood on you.
It’s called a shower…
It was extremely useful in MGS 1 but in V it is worth fuck all
I don't even remember being in the game. Meanwhile in MGS1 you can't beat sniper wolf without it.
On my first playthrough I didn't find the pentazemin and brute forced that bossfight
Same. We are the elite for suffering through that
WTF are you on about, showers don't remove aim sway. Literally just tested it myself right now.
So, no, Pentazamin is not useless lol. Can't believe this is the (currently) the most upvoted comment, too.
Sorry for late reply.
What I mean when I say when showering removes aim sway. I mean it removes the exaggerated aim sway that comes from when Snake’s Psyche meter (that’s invisible in this game) drops to a low value (when you get spotted repeatedly and/or take critical damage more than once). Showering restores Snake’s Psyche to full and this eliminates the exaggerated aim sway.
I will confess that I don’t play FOB mode (I don’t enjoy infiltrating the same sterile map over and over again).
So FOB users who want to snipe from an absurd distance away can certainly make use of it. For the majority of players it’s just not that useful since MGSV’s aim sway isn’t as bad as it was in prior entries to the series.
Maybe it's just a skill issue on my end, but I think it's still really useful because even the slightest bit of aim sway can make the difference between a headshot and a complete miss, regardless of which weapon you're using. I showered pretty frequently, so I honestly didn't even know the sway could get worse, but I still used Pentazamin pretty often just so my aim could be absolutely pinpoint accurate.
“Maybe it’s just a skill issue on my end”
Nah, you’re pretty good!
Just go prone for sniping and aiming is easy
Going prone also doesn't remove aim sway LMAO. I don't think your stance changes how much aim sway you get, but I haven't tested this. I did, however, test the shower one while prone, so I know for sure that both do not remove aim sway.
The only reliable way to remove aim sway, afaik, is to use Pentazamin.
Prone lessens aim sway. Doesn’t remove it completely
What? Pentazemin is one of the best items in the game, especially for FOBs
Best item is Noctocyanin. Can see and mark enemies through walls and it’s vital. And I’ve done 1000+ FOB successful infiltrations and never once used Pentazemin. It’s useful but not as vital as Noctocyanin
Yea showers don’t steady your hand it’s just for reflex. Your gun will still sway side to side. Pentazemin eventhough I never use it still has a use. Now FOM Decoy that is total uselessness
The helicopter flare grenade. Originally in the GZ demo, it would land where you threw the flare.
Handcuffs on quiet
😳
It’s funny she can disappear, take down a whole squad on her own, dodge bullets, but can’t escape handcuffs lol
But she does tho
When? At the end she had her handcuffs cut. You mean in the beginning in the chopper?
I consider the Fulton Rocket Launcher (FB MR R-L FLTN) and the Bait Bottle by far the most useless items in the game.
Fulton launcher is the tits for FOB defense. Immediate KO and extract
Fulton extraction launcher works on vehicles?
bait bottle 100%
The fast travel system. Never use it.
Oh I use that all the time. It’s great. Fast and free. Instead of traveling thousands of meters or calling in the chopper then restarting the mission again dropping back in
Acceleramin.
Whole heartedly disagree. I’ve eliminated the Skulls on several missions by acceleramin + Brennan headshots. Got them all before they even moved
Isn’t it one of the most powerful items in the game though? Like S rank restricting?
Nah, it doesn't prevent S-rank, but if you do use it, you will lose the No Reflex bonus, which, obviously lol.
Nahhh disagree. Bait bottle works if you want to get those animals to get 100% game completion. Wanna know what’s useless? The FOM Decoy. Absolutely worthless. Never worked. At least the bait bottle works.
Almost anything in inventory that isn't a gun, cardboard box, or Fulton
Rocket launchers that only stun
The most useless item is venom snake
the sexiest item 😛
It silently breaks electronics, it can be used to hold up enemies, it stuns the Man on Fire, it can extinguish campfires and other open flames, a headshot can daze enemies long enough for a CQC takedown, it can kill enemies if you get downed telephone wires involved, and you can make your DDs look like they pissed themselves.
I've used mods to deploy with JUST a water pistol for repeatable side ops and missions, and it is a lot more useful than you'd first think.
I'm just really bummed that the water pistol has the "muzzle flash" effect of the other non-suppressed weapons in the game. At night, the penalty to the camo index is so high that you will be spotted a mile away if in the line of sight of an enemy when firing the water pistol.
It breaks electronic equipment silently. It think that’s useful.
Also it annoys The Man on Fire
250+ hours and I just now realized it silently breaks electronics!!
The post asked about the most useless, not the most useful
I recently replayed MGSV and there was only a single mission where I used the cigar, and even then it broke the mission because the AI bugged afterwards.
