For real. Unemployment benefits are very good in MA.
You came to the right place
Been there.
Did you get a severance package? That should cushion the impact a bit.
Did you get health care coverage for at least the foreseeable future? COBRA?
Depending on how many years you were there, hopefully you got both the above.
As others said, take a deep breath, file for unemployment, and start applying for new jobs.
Good Luck!
PS: If you feel like sharing - What was the role that got eliminated? Did you work on the tech side or the biz side?
First, take some deep breaths. It is going to be ok. Talk to your family and friends for support. Get a good dinner tonight, go for a walk, be nice to yourself.
Then tomorrow or the next day, after some sleep, you can reach out to recruiters, other people in your situation, make more posts here… just generally make a plan. Oh and file for unemployment.
I’m so sorry this happened to you, it’s all to common these days. But you can handle this! It’s gonna be okay !
Count your blessings that you are in MA and not NH where your unemployment would max out at $400 a week for a short time.
If you still have access to your FAS account buy some FSA stuff today (can't you still do that)?
sign up unemployment
if they want you to sign something, have a lawyer look at it first, there is NO rush
figure out health insurance
get your resume in order and start working your network on linked in.
go take a walk tonight with someone and get some exercise and work off your strees
go cancel a bunch of reoccurring things to save money.
good luck!
If you don't think a new job will be easy I would minimize expenses first, break leases and bail out
Happened to me last year, so you have my sympathy. File for unemployment quickly, as it can take some time to sort out. Take advantage of any outplacement services they may offer you as part of your severance package. If nothing else, you will get a professionally written resume out of it. Update your LinkedIn (or create one), and network with people in your industry.
Most importantly, take some time to grieve and get yourself feeling better. Don't expect too much of yourself initially, and don't feel like your period of unemployment means you have to "be productive" about anything other than finding a new job. If you can get some regular activity going eventually, it will be good for your body and mind. Best of luck to you.
It’s going to be okay, we’ve all been there
What a blessing, collect for the rest of the summer and get a job in October. Buy a nice beach chair and some hiking boots. Go visit feiends/family you usually don't have the time too.

Oh honey, just because he tells you that everyone does it doesn't mean everyone does..
No idea what to do and you turn to Reddit for support and advice? SMH.
Posting about it on Reddit won't help. The unemployment office is who you need to be contacting. Hop to it, chief!
File for unemployment.
