23m, lived here about a year, feeling like I need to change some things
AdviceI’m almost 30 and I’m looking at turning a crack house into a crack home my guy…
🤣
we can't all have trust funds.
Can you change you living in it for me living in it?
Seriously though, sweet place love the art. Maybe bring some of that colour into the living space.
Thanks! I appreciate it. Seems like the consensus is to add more color, so that’s what I’ll try to do! Maybe a different couch that is not black?
Dude you’re 23 years old and living better than 99.9% of your male peers.
Your place is fine, there is no point in investing more money into an apartment that you could potentially be out of in another year.
Put money into yourself, or your hobbies or anything outside of your place.
Doesn't look like this guy's problem is money tbh
Idk he has trigonometry for dummies. If you don’t just inherently know trig functions without a reference book idk even know how you’ll adult /s
You never know. They could be barely affording this place with the way rent is these days
23 and that place... I lived with my parents until 28
"Your place is fine, there is no point in investing more money into an apartment that you could potentially be out of in another year."
There's nothing to be lost and a lot to be gained by making the space you live comfortable and awesome.
OP isn't going to remodel, he's going to buy some colorful pillows FFS.
Right
You missed taking a picture of the most important piece in this whole apartment, Where’s the cat?
Due to popular demand, here is a pic of him basking in the sunlight haha :)
That is a very attractive kitty kit. And he fits into the upscale environment. Kudos
And the cat! Gorgeous. Why are you complaining-you’ve got yourself surrounded by peace, love & beauty.
I’ll just be in the minority and say that I think it has enough color. I like the simplicity and cleanliness of the look.
FWIW
For 23 this is a superbly high standard of living, what do you do OP? I was still living in a cave at that point in time
That looks like Seattle (please correct me if I'm wrong), right around Amazon offices iirc. Since its Seattle and a very nice new central apartment and he lives alone, I think its safe to assume he works as a software engineer at a big tech company (Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Meta, etc all are either HQ'ed or have large presences in the Seattle area).
I’m 40F, you don’t need to add any color. Your place looks great, better than most M in 20s-40s
I mean if you want to change a whole couch. But like others have said, a good rug and some other decor could complement the couch nicely, without having to go to that length.
I feel like a more colourful rug is just right, but it feels really sterile. A lovely sterile, but sterile. It looks like the little computer area is where the real person is. Love the bed though!!!
I love the couch. Maybe a faux fur throw in a color to add some texture? Or a furry rug? Perhaps a large plant or tree near the window? Some more "natural" texture with color might do the trick. It's very stark.
What about the rug instead? I think it will make a much bigger difference visually.
leave it as it is. you gonna ruin it.

This is the equivalent of how ugly is my nose girl posts. Our entire western culture of genz is trolling people with your good fortune. I await the asteroid to flush it all away.
This is like those amazing looking people posting asking if they’re ugly.
Flex
Oh fuck off
I’m just waiting for for somebody in this sub to post their apartment with an authentic Basquiat on the wall and the caption “it’s not much, but it’s mine”
😂😂😂
Right? Like maybe 5% of Reddit can relate to this guy.
The “I just left Stanford and went straight into faang” lifestyle.
Kids with rich parents aren't that rare, it's likely more than 5%.
Roll a D20 to relate 🤣
swallows D20
This is better than what I can afford and I'm in the top 10%. Also quite a bit older than 23 lol. This kid had 1%er parents, almost certainly.
I would say less
You mean less than 1 percent?
Way way way less
😂
Thank you.
Lmao
What the frick do you do for work at 23?
Something that involves an f-ton of math
Was gonna suggest he move the bookshelf out of that tiny ass corner to bring more visibility as guests always comment on my library and it’s a great conversation piece/starter. But then I saw his is all math and the 48 laws of power. Just what your date was hoping to connect over 😬
I did a double take at A Court of Thorns and Roses. I'm imaging that one being placed solely with the notion it will make women feel "safer" in this Patrick Batemen-esque penthouse.
Lolll I had this same thought!
But only two copies of Discrete Mathematics? Needs at least three to be BF material.
World’s most tragic bookcase
Undergraduate degree in economics.
def not that.
Almost certainly a undergrad business degree. Look at the textbooks.
Granted, we aren’t seeing his entire shelf, so maybe there are finance/accounting textbooks out of view. But an economics major is the most probable given the high level of math and statistics taken. They’ve also considered or are planning on taking the GRE, but likely haven’t started a graduate degree given the lack of graduate level textbooks.
Why def not that?
Quant
Rich parents most likely
Notice the “Rich Dad” book on the shelves near the bottom
Irrefutable proof
Specifically is Rich Dad, Poor Dad a very famous personal finance book
Lmao a stupid book. "Save money and spend less" written in 5000 words.
I think the gist was rich people invest, so either you didn’t read it or 5000 words still didn’t make a dent lol
Na it looks like Seattle so could be a guy in tech.
Hes his parents kid for work
Probably a software engineer
Even first & second year analysts at Goldman Sachs don't live this well, let alone on their own.
He was smart enough to pick rich AF parents.
Judging by the library: corporate finance.
Get the fuck out of here man 😂
I’m 24 and unemployed, posts like this make me wanna off myself lol
This kid bought bitcoin when he was a younger kid.
What does a place like this cost/ what state is this in? Honestly I think this place looks pretty good already. I'd add more house plants. You have a lot of big windows for light
3k per month studio looks like in either Chicago or nc Maybye
It’s Arlington, VA. Specifically the Rosslyn neighborhood just across the bridge from Georgetown D.C. Would guess rent is 2.8K for 1Bd/1Ba or closer to 4K if it’s a two bed.
Oh okay that makes sense I just thought maybe nc but it could be va
I was about say that looks like Rosslyn out the window.
Going to go ahead and guess my man is working at Deloitte while waiting to take his GRE.
Im betting chicago
Was also gonna say Chicago. I don’t recognize any of the buildings but the general vibe is there.
Doesn’t look like Chicago. Looks like there’s a big hill in pic 2. This looks close to south loop, but that pic ends that theory.
Arlington, VA just outside DC
There’s a hill in the background, though
This is definitely not nc. Doesn’t look like Chicago either
Are you sure you know what a studio is?
I was going to say Seattle (Bellevue) to be precise but price range would be around the same
Looks really nice but damn 3k a month. My net salary isn’t even 3k a month.
I rent a house on the west coast of Canada for 3600$ 💀 that’s on the low end for houses here. Most rented houses are split into a top and bottom suites and they charge 3-4k for each half.
must be nice with that OF money.
Its shady af imo but if i could do it, id totally go 100% into it and make millions a year
In NYC this place is $5k if it’s a dollar. Also it’s not a studio
If it were NYC at say 5k minimum, OP would need to make 40x the rent to qualify. Thats 200k salary at 22 lol. After taxes, take home pay is 134k. Rent per year is 60k. Leaving them with 74k (not even counting retirement fund, bills, food, health care, student loans etc).
This is Arlington, VA. Rosslyn specifically, right across from Georgetown via Key Bridge. I know because I live a mile up the street and recognize that building under construction with the yellow chute in pic 4. I used to work in Georgetown and passed it every day.
This is the Rosslyn neighborhood of Arlington, VA. Based on the view, this is the Central Place apartment building
Looks like Seattle to me.
I had a similar apartment and for me when I moved out $2400 after utilities and parking fees in Washington DC.. I moved cuz it was too much. Also I HATED the floor the ceiling windows in my bedroom. Felt uncomfortable changing in there and the blinds were always down. And lastly it was bright 24/7 from the street lights. This place is nice but not my forever home.
My new place is 3 times as big and has all utilities included and a large balcony. It’s much older but the rent is better and it’s a nicer part of town. The new parts of Angie are nice but you’re always dealing with construction. I live in a more hilt up part of town and it nice not being around that.
This is just a flex

He's refusing to answer, that's for sure. Not sure why some folks have a hard time answering what they do for a living. I'll tell anybody that I'm a front office admin at the high school I graduated from (talk about a full circle moment). What’re you gonna do with that information? Nothing. It tells you nothing about me or passes on any personal information lol.
It’s because they’re probably getting a lot of “outside” funding for their situation.
ngl I have quite a few friends working in tech/consulting that make enough to reasonably live in a place like this right out of college. Most don’t because they’re saving a ton of money to retire early, but still.
If you follow the “no more than 30% of your income should go to rent” rule, a ~$2.8k/month place like this would be reasonable for anyone with a six figure salary.
Could be. When I saw that he was 23, I said wait a minute....and you're living in a place like THAT?! AT 23?! Hell, I was still in college at damn 23.
Hell I'm 24 and still in college, and will be for a couple of years untill I do my masters. Ramen packets and living in harry potters broom closet till then for me 😞
I’m gonna guess he’s a quant making a crap ton based on the mix of math, finance, and econ books
Not much on the finance side on that shelf. Would bet a conventional economics undergrad.
Looks like he works in finance judging from the books
The better question is what his parents do
The TV stand needs to be changed for sure
I love it
I would add some rugs, a runner maybe on each side of the kitchen island. Just to bring the noise level down from walking and stuff. Could also be used to introduce some more different colors into the space.
I was going to say change the rung under the couch with a bright multi colored one.
I really like this place but something about it makes it feel like a hotel if you know what I mean? Maybe add some color? A carpet or more wall art.
Whatever you do, don’t get rid of the calculus books
Honestly, you are doing great. You have a really nice base to work from. Maybe change your tv stand to something lower and that fits the space better. Eventually change out the couch. But there is nothing at all bad, it’s really nice and you could keep it as is for quite a long time. Congratulations on adulting so well at such a young age.
You are 23 and have a pet. What more could you ask for ❤️
Nice place….. love the view
The only feedback I can give you is to get a shower curtain that goes to the floor.
looks awesome—if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
he ain’t broke 😂
Fiddly fig between the couch and window, where the light is.
Yes, or another big plant/small tree. Ficus or monstera deliciosa would also work well. FB marketplace often has good deals for established plants— I found a 8 ft tall ficus alii for $130.
Or if you’re not a green thumb, no shame in getting a fake plant.
Oh, I like this. Guess I’ll be in the market for a fiddle fig!
I am jealous man
Lamps, what do you do?
How do U afford such a place at 23?
I have saved this post. When I am in my 60s and have money saved, I will get an apartment like this.

We’re in different income brackets. I don’t think I can help
Bro is flexing on us.
Beautiful place I think maybe adding some more plants or hanging plants by the windows would look really nice
You can change the TV stand
I’d put a mat under the office chair so the wheels don’t ruin your flooring.
I wish I could have these big ass windows in my apartment. I love daylight especially really sunny days, but I also love the cloudy and rainy days also. They’re perfect for me 😂
Main thing: you don’t need to change anything to your space. I’m going to make suggestions cause I’m into interiors/details, and my brain decided to hyperfixate on this post.
In the kitchen, I’d replace the small mat with a longer one that aligns with the kitchen zone - like from the lip in the floor along to the border of fridge and small white cabinet. Or the length of/aligned with the island. I’d also look at ways to bring another natural fibre element in that space.. linen, soft wood, cane. Could be as simple as a neutral linen tea towel on the oven handle. Personally I’m not super into much dark furniture, especially in the kitchen, so I’d look at replacing the stools with a rattan/cane/mid- or light-tone wood seat. I have stools with woven rattan seat (black metal legs) with very low backs, so they slips under the bench completely.
The large plant pot is really nice, but is a bit lost next to the wood drawers. Could it move somewhere else? Next to the lounge with the side table at the other end? Or would it fit behind your desk chair, in front of the power point? And then having a plant on the drawers. I really like the dark painting (?) over those drawers, but it has a intimate feel to it? I would put that over your bed, and switch for bright painting in your bedroom now. I think the darker painting would go really well in your bedroom too, with your colours/textures.
In the living space, if you change the lounge I’d get an L shape lounge. Aligned like you have it, with the extension along the window. I really like your tv stand (a lot!) but because of the alcove there’s visual clutter.. Could you replace the drawers outside your bedroom with the tv stand? It might shine a bit more there. Or shuffle it further toward the corner/kitchen, and then it won’t cross over the small alcove. I’d also play around with the big rug. I’d pull it out further into the room, closer to the desk leg.
In the study area, I’d put frosted glass film over the lower window. Just in that section, for lower-half privacy when seated.. it’s a shame the bookshelf area isn’t big enough for the desk to be a bit more zoned in there. I’d put a plant on top of the bookshelf, like a pothos.
If you own the space, I’d look at putting built-in shelves in the narrow alcove behind the tv. And floor to ceiling sheer white curtains. You can get rails attached to the ceiling, in the same colour as the ceiling so they don’t visually clutter it up. It would be nice for privacy without cutting out much light, and quite a soft addition. Your blinds look nice but like they might block more light. And light fixtures, if you own I’d look at changing them, but not until you find something you really like.
Add some more art on the wall. Looks like all the art was from 1 trip to Michaels.
Add something that relates to your personality. This looks like a staged home
Welp, since nobody else will be the proud hater, I’ll just come out and say it…no way a 23 YO lives here. Alone. Not impossible at all, just hard to believe. Without getting too personal, where is this and what do you do for a living?
bro lives in a gta apartment
Where's the cat? Pay forward the cat tax.
My only feedback is that it’s illegal to imply you have a pet and not include it in the pictures!
Nice flex bro.
Daddy’s little boy
Anyone else see the "awaiting mod approval"? I don't see any pics
Lol, it must be nice being born rich
I’m glad I’m not the only male who comes across clean and tidy.
Lamps with warm bulbs, more colors, two more plants
Looks great to me!
23?! Good for you, dude
Seems perfect to me 🤷♂️
I would swap out that frosted glass slider for a barn or French lattice patterning.
It is ick.
Also that black leather couch, wooshka out the balcony and replace with 2-3 IMG Nordics in preferred colour
Boston seaport?
PPPPLANTS
God I wish I had this when I was 23.
It looks brilliant, mate.
I love this.
I think it is fine I love it.
I don’t see anything wrong
What’s your career and rent cost for this?
Bro you have excellent style!! And a great taste in music. Rufus bangs
Who are the artists?
The only thing I see that needs to be changed. Is the TV stand.
Do you never have friends over? I ask because I only see one little chair at the kitchen island. I'd get 2 barstools for there so people could eat or drink comfortably.
Edit: ok upon closer inspection I see another chair on the other side. And you are 23 and have a wine decanter? Are you sure you're not 43?
Pet bowl is empty. I can see the bottom (my cat told me to tell you)
If he's bored living in a place like this at 23 this dude will be hunting people for sport by 50
Nice place but you ain't fooling me this is just a flex
What is this some kind of flex, or you just want to manipulate a bunch of folks into complimenting your home.
Don't change a damn thing. Maybe some art or rugs but that's totally up to you and no one else.
You know what, that kitchen needs demoed.
A court of thorns and roses is the wildcard here
This is absolutely stunning man. Wow.
Rich kid problems
Damn. When I was 23, I was still looking for a job after college....geez. But, everything looks great as it is; simple and minimalistic.
As a New Yorker I am endlessly baffled by people living in these luxury apartments at 23 😂. Nice place.
Looks nice, maybe needs a gf / bf ; )
Cacti, a fuckton of cacti
looks like a mark zuckerberg painting in ur living room
I see you fancy Aesop Resurrection hand soap. You’ve got good taste. If you want to change up the scent and elevate the bathroom a bit, try Diptyque for like $32 more. Glass bottle, more luxe 👌
I feel like your tryna stunt
There is that one “dopamine” book. A break from all the seriousness.
Isnt it annoying that everyone can see you all the time without curtains?
Why does the shower have two curtains
I love that you have a copy of A court of thorns and roses just casually sitting in between all your finance and calculus books! Definitely read the second book if you haven’t already! It changes everything you thought to be true about the first book!
If you can spend $46.64 on a hand soap you don’t need to ask reddit for advice
Why these dudes in nice condos always have the same bland taste lol
Are you a top
Bro called me poor in every language 😪
Cringe flex post.
When i was 23 I was jealous of Harry Potter's broom closet
