What do you guys do for a living because the nice ass houses you guys have, have to mean you make good money
DiscussionI play a millionaire at malelivingspace.

Thanks for my obscure Simpsons quote of the day.
It's not much but it's (dis)honest work.
Have you tried listing the houses you find on Trulia as Air B&Bs? Have the people pay the deposit online , then when they show up at someone's house... not your problem.
Tech. LCOL areas. No kids. Credit cards. Pick your favourite combo.

Tech
No kids
There. I picked.
Ikr.
A good job and free time is fucking awesome.
Agreed.
Same. Tech, no kids, no wife, just hookers and cocaine.
Add: help from parents
Most folks underestimate how expensive kids are, and how much it costs to be a parent these days. Kinda makes me happy that I wasn't getting laid like I wanted to in my 20s.
Just came off a cruise to celebrate a big anniversary (straight couple) and we spent big to get into the suites section of a big luxury cruise line ship. We were amazed at how many married and “married” gay couples there were in our suites dining venue. In talking to them over meals - they obviously had a ton of money because many cruised on long expensive cruises 3, 4, 5 times a year. Not a lesbian couple to be seen anywhere on board. (Interesting recent study on divorce rate amount gay and lesbian married couples - gay couples divorce rate way less than heterosexual-couples; lesbian divorce rate - way higher than heterosexual couples. it has an impact on finances.)
Are you suggesting that lesbians don't go on cruises, because they don't have enough money, because they're spending it all on divorces?
- Tech - well sure. Software dev
- LCOL - not really. Ann Arbor is the most expensive city in the state (according to Forbes)
- No kids- yup!! 2 kitties, I have a robot feeder, a robot litter, a robot vacuum.
- Credit cards - naw. The job pays enough for a single adult living in a condo size house.

I have nice furniture but I got it all for free or for very cheap from auction deals. Sometimes all it takes to look rich is patience and 5 bucks. I recently bought a dining room table that originally cost around $3000 for $1 at an online auction. Once you find the right place you'll realize that a lot of things you never thought you could afford can be had for pennies.
Rich people give away money in the form of possessions for free just because they don't want to look at stuff anymore. Seniors also downsize into retirement homes and auction off the nicest things they've collected within their lifetime. A lot of times people don't have any other options, they just need stuff gone.
So if you want to look rich or enjoy a rich feeling lifestyle with high end possessions then there's some tips for ya. If you want to buy your own house or own only new things then you'll have to work for it.
Any recommended sites?
!!!!! please what sites
Smh...just giving up all that free game...you're killing me brah
My guy I need to know where you look for furniture
Any chance you’ll share the auction site? How bad is shipping? I’ve been scrounging FBM but am running out of options
Don’t leave us hanging like that
I work with vintage furniture, most of the time I have about $200 to spare. But my lifestyle Presents very well.
Same here.
After seeing my car and my apartment I think people would be surprised I have about $16 until payday.
I took the post down eventually but when I posted my place on here, everybody thought I was rich and that’s just not the case. I’ve just been collecting all of this shit for a super long time and I’m pretty old.
Time + taking immaculate care of your stuff yields you some pretty goddamn nice stuff after a while

Seems like lots of folks are actually renting
That's the most common form of housing in large cities, even for people who could afford a home somewhere else. That's how the world works. I don't understand the "renting=not doing well" sentiment.
I don’t think they were implying that renting means you’re not doing well but renting an apartment in a downtown skyscraper is a lot more attainable for most people than owning one
I kinda established a lot of dudes are living in states with low costs of living. We often forget there’s part of this country where you can still get a lot of home for very little.
Not everyone lives in The US.
This comment is a lot deeper than I think you meant it. Nevertheless I agree. Most of us under the age of 50 get to just die, because the Boomers have fucked up the economy and wages so badly so they could profit.
You know, there's a whole younger generation of CEOs who are screwing you every bit as much.
Those CEO’s were installed by their Boomer parents. The super rich are also to blame though, obviously.
Reddit doesn’t like it when you point out the class divide. But theres so many subreddits on generation divide for some reason. Almost all CEO’s are born upper class. If your middle class you have a way higher chance of dropping to lower class than moving up. Theres heavy propaganda to advertise the 0.5% of entrepreneurs and lucky folks from the lower classes who get rich. A society that encourages individuality but only allows conformity creates obedient workers.
“Lucky folks from the lower classes who got rich” is one of the most Reddit things I’ve ever read. A TON of people have moved from impoverished areas to suburban areas in my city. A lot of them are small business owners, working class, tradesmen, computer sci etc.
I’m not saying they’re 1% rich but going from shitty small houses to two story houses or a nice apartment is VERY achievable. This sub is filled with dudes in nice apartments and then there’s goobers who say “uM uH nO wE gEt tO jUsT diE bEfOre wE tUrn 50” like that shit is so depressing and NOT true . If anyone here wants a nice apartment or a nice house you can get it too!
Boomers mess up the economy? Fuck yeah but that doesn’t mean we just sit around and bitch. I rather live today then in the 50s and 60s where racism, sexism, bullying, ptsd from ww2, domestic violence, were seen as normal. It was easier for them to buy a house sure but don’t act like they had easy lives
Not to attack you or anyone personally I’m just sick of the negativity. No one here should live with the attitude of “it’s not worth trying because boomers”. EVERY GENERATION HAS PROBLEMS!
thank you
I wish I could still give you gold.
That's not rich, tbh. That's only going from lower class to middle class, maybe upper middle.
just stop. everyone is a victim, and only them.
you can’t just go around saying we all have problems. it’s important to assign blame. especially on the internet.
Degreed engineer. Oil and gas.
Shitty as hell job, but made some money on investments, flipped a house in america, moved to a poorer country with cheap houses and renovated my house while living in my car.

Tech, no kids, no wife
I’m an American living in Berlin , Germany. I’ve been here for over 10 years. When I first moved here, you could get a 45-55 square meter apartment for around 600-800 euros. The contracts for the apartment are indefinite, meaning the rent is somewhat stabilized. This allows people to have huge places.
Here's a cheat code. Do apartment maintenance (or apartment manager) because most times it comes with an apartment. My girlfriend and I are moving into a three bedroom house in the next 2-4 weeks in a brand fucking new building that I've been claiming since it was a dirt lot.
Healthcare, lab.
Tech, no kids.
Retired Vet, and I'm a composites inspector for a Space/Defense company. Wife is a lawyer. DINK household in the PNW with a combined 230-250k income. We've worked our asses off and it's starting to pay off in our favor this last year.
I'm also going back to school to try to get into a tech career.
Insurance adjuster and my wife works for a dental appliance company. My cars paid for, I have only a couple grand in debt, no student loans or anything and we prioritize our home. 15 years renting shitty/mediocre at best apartment after apartment took its toll on us and we are determined to make our first home exactly what we want it
I finally had the money to buy a place in my 40s about 5 years ago. But I had decades worth of furniture, artwork, and decor to add to it.
Most of the furniture and decor I got at thrift shops, garage sales, or built myself. I just never had a stable place to put it all. So I would lose a piece or two every time I moved. Now I have a stable place and can curate what I keep and replace.
Don't be fooled by people with nice houses or cars. Most are in debt up to their ears
Waste. Management
Tech and not being in US :)
I’m an engineer and my wife is too, no kids. My house isn’t impressive, but it is for me being 26 I guess. Pretty sure we’re the youngest couple in our neighborhood. Also don’t live like the people in this thread saying “I present very well but I have $200 in my bank account.” Live within your means, prioritize paying off debt and establishing an emergency fund (at minimum 2 months of pay) before you or your house looking good. The peace of mind of not being financially stressed will be worth not looking as good. Also, these days you can look pretty damn good on a budget with thrift stores and what not, it just takes some work.
I think a lot of us are older and divorced or out of relationships and we are the decorators now. Personally I have found that I love putting things together and love all the ideas I get here.
"My wife is a part time kindergarten teacher and I sell potatoes from my garage. We have a budget of 3.2 million."
Bought a shitty home (cheap). Did some work on it, sold for massive profit (8 years later), bought a new house with the sale of the old one.
Did you go to college? I went from a junior college to a 4 year in a major city, and realize a lot these kids are very comfortable when I saw their IG posts over the holidays. If you don't work in college and spend time networking/interning you'll get a good job at 23.
Mechanical Engineer, worked/work in high paying fields.
Single Live in Prague Work in Tech
Big influx of not nice houses lately
Mostly people with no kids. I paid 1800 a month for full daycare when my kids were little.
Feel for you. Mines only 1100 and I still hate it
Their parents are the ones with the money lol
“I own a small software development company. I employ 2 developers and make about $250k a year working 20-30 hours a week. I didn’t graduate from college and taught myself how to code over COVID. I recommend others consider this route as well as opposed to a traditional 9-5 job.”
You make $250K a year?
Engineer. Worked in the trades for years so I am pretty adept in a variety of shit to make a home aesthetically pleasing. I got a lot of ideas from the high-end buildings I worked at and made it my own.
Millwright. It's a good living.
Did you get your MBA right away or after a few years of working?
you hiring new grads?
Tech + investments + equity partnerships in companies I advise.
33M making 200k+/yr with no debt or kids, and since I work from home a lot I spend money on where I spend time and like to be.
Edit: side note, I also work remote so I was able to buy a house in a state with a lower cost of living. Montana is beautiful and the people in the city I’m in are amazing. Highly recommend looking around and getting involved in local communities
What do you do in tech if you don’t mind me asking?
Navy Nuclear Science -> CS degree -> Mobile to hardware integrations -> Software sales & director of tech
U should invest in some art and buy one of my oil paintings
I’m an educator. I help struggling readers and coach teachers.
CNC operator. Making 25k€ ish/year, basically average pay here.
Inherited the house at 19 when my mom died so...yeah.
Any combo of higher income and lower expenses (no kids etc), and generational wealth is starting to become a major/common factor. Probably half the people I know would tell you "I just bought my first house" without mentioning "...but my parents gave me $100k for a down payment", or mentioning that they didn't have to pay for school or their car or any combination of other things that someone who doesn't come from a little money has to work out before even thinking of buying a house.
I'm an executive chef in a pretty big city I've just always been a cook I make around 75k
The marble king sells coke, for sure
I steal credit cards and buy a bunch of iPads and leave them as decoration
tech, gay, social butterfly, not rich but working on it
I do marble flooring installations
You make at least $5.
When you put gas in the car and wait for the click
you don't have to look at prices on Menus. you have a maid. there's left over money when the next paycheck comes in.
Hmm... Lots of very wealthy people penny pinch at restaurants and don't have maids.
Having money left over when the next paycheck comes is just called budgeting and living within your means.
How old are you?
I tick all the boxes except no maid. Is it good enough?
Classic things poor people think rich people do lol.
I’m homeless bro 😂. I just give advice cause I’m a gay man with good decorating skills.
I'm especially curious about these young (like mid 20s and under) who get their own place. Tiny 1bdr apartments around me are like $1900 and you have to may 3x that to get approved so who's making ~$65k that young to live in basically a studio?
Bruh most grads will start in the 40s range but in tech and corporate finance you can get hired at 100k+ out of school. The difference in wage is staggering but there is a small percentage who can afford it.
Energy. HCOL. 2 kids. Started saving early.
Tbh I wish this sub was more normal because I bought a house a few months ago that was a bit of a fixer upper and I’d like to post some pics cause I’ve been doing work on it and a few of the areas look kinda cool. I have a cool office room and the kitchen isn’t exactly glamorous but it felt good after I finished putting the cabinets up.
But i also don’t feel like reading a thousand comments of people just talking shit about the couch that I already know sucks, and I’m saving up to replace lol.
And I don’t want to post on r/malesurvivingspace either because I actually do have furniture and floor coverings and walls that aren’t concrete.
Hey man, I hear you. I had a shitty hand me down couch for over a decade and finally got a new one. I’m in my late 30s. My kitchen needs a lot of work, but I’ve been able to update my bedroom, living room, and office to something nice. It’ll come with time!
I just lurk, haven’t even uploaded my space because I’m in a relationship and together over 100k salary in Canada which to be honest is barely enough. We rent a small 1 bedroom apartment and it’s not very impressive. Clean however.
Service advisor at a dealership. 120k, wife also works, no kids, bought a house 6 years ago so we have a $1400 mortgage payment. It's easy to live rich with 150k+ combined, no kids, and an affordable place to live. If we had kids we would be paycheck to paycheck lol
My parents paid for the down payment
I pay the monthly mortgage (rent basically)
I never asked for this living situation, they insisted
Just because people are paying mortgage on a house doesn't mean they can afford it.
I work in IT
Most are probably just renting, and they’re most likely in a low cost of living area.
organized crime in the case of the marble guy at least
breaking and entering rich people’s homes for photo shoots
I skim Trulia and download pictures from the listings, then pass them off on my own.
Doesn’t pay that great, but it’s rewarding…
