This band Nude Beach from Northport is fantastic. Are there any any other recommendations for local artists?
Just looking to jam to some local bands. Don’t care when they were popular.
There's a whole wiki page for that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Musical_groups_from_Long_Island
Why are Stray Cats missing from this wiki?
In that case, I cannot recommend Koyo enough!
Minimum champion :)
Brand New, Glassjaw, Taking Back Sunday
YOUR LIPSTICK HIS COLLAR DONT BOTHER ANGEL
I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT GOES ON 🎼🎼🎼🎼
sad Bayside noises
Literally all I’ve been listening to this week…
It’s been an interesting week.
Came here to write this exact list! (Now frantically searching for my Tell All Your Friends signed CD, the memories)
For the metalheads, here is a list of 427 metal bands from long island.
That list was a trip - saw a couple bands I’ve been in, have worked with, old friends, old enemies, bands I completely forgot about…
fuck yes thank you for posting this!
De La Soul; Long Beach can kind of claim MF Doom
EPMD too
I met De La Soul when I lived in Vail Colorado. Had some drinks & smoked some smoke after they were done playing this relatively small club.
Jeff Rosenstock!!
And all his other bands. ASOB, Bomb The Music Industry.
Yes! I haven't listened to much of his other stuff but I need to.
He's playing a "never ending" tour at the Warsaw in BK! he's up to 5 nights in a row
Moon Tooth
Johnny Booth
Dhara
Goliath
I've been watching Nick from Moon Tooth play guitar since he was a tiny fourteen year old with a Les Paul. He was great even then. His previous band Exemption was solid too, but its great to see the level he's reached in Moon Tooth
Nick and Ray were both in Exemption together! The musical connection they have manifests in some amazingly tight groovy interplay that just makes me so fucking happy when I see it. I remember them seeing them play when we did open mics at the Downtown at the same time. Those boys were tight as hell even back then when they were hardly teenagers.
Straylight run, in particular "sunrise highway"
They're doing a mini-residency at Warsaw in Brooklyn in August. Always a great show.
Check out MJT whenever they play—guys just opened for Alter Bridge on their last tour, and for Slash the year prior
Vision of disorder! If you like hardcore.
I got jumped at a VOD show years ago… good times lol
Nine Days is great band. They had hits with Story of a Girl and If I am. Never realized they were from Long Island until last year.
One of them is (or at least was) a teacher at wantagh high. They used to always compete in the battle of the bands there too.
Both the dude who wrote story of a girl and the girl herself are teachers there. That’s been their claim to fame for like, the last decade and a half. I didn’t even go to wantagh and I knew that.
Check out this Lou Reed guy from Freeport. I think he's going places.
What a walk in the wild side!
Sargasm. Went to school with them.
Saw them open for CKY a few years ago. They're a fun band
Thanks for watching our set. Glad you had a good time. CKY rules!!
They just put out a new EP too.
The Lemon Twigs are from Hicksville and have been generating a lot buzz in the indie scene with their last two albums. But I’m unsure if you mean small bands that have remained on LI exclusively within the underground:
Underground is cool. Thank you.
Latterman - Pop-punk from the early 2000s!
Iron Chic - They're still active and they rule!
Came here to make sure someone said Chic. Can confirm they absolutely rule.
If I hear another word about a better place
🎵 💃 🥁
Woo Latterman! Brings me back…
Envy on the coast
Is Patent Pending still together?
Oh man, Patent Pending… man the memories.
Check out Arcy Drive, also from Northport! Jon Bellion is also great, he’s from Lake Grove.
Awesome recommendation these guys rock!
Hey, my cousin was in that band! (If we're talking about the same one, but I can't imagine there's two bands called Nude Beach from Northport)
Some kinda love is an awesome song! Tell him they rock!
I love finding Long Island artists. It’s super important to rep hometowns in rap. So I already made a Long Island rap music playlist like a year ago! Has a ton of current and some old Long Island rappers, let me know what you guys think!
Thanks!
Stray From The Path, and King Nine!
Scofflaws, Bile, Urine & if we count Brooklyn we have Type O Negative & Biohazard
Wheetus
I JUST found this out lol!
My 12 year old is in love with the song Teenage Dirtbag and was listening to it on YouTube the other week and first I was like whoa I forgot about this, hello high school LOL and then I’m watching the video and the lead singer (I think) had a shirt on that said Commack and I’m like well look at that they must be from Long Island. I mean, I can’t imagine someone from the middle of nowhere Midwest wearing a Commack shirt lol! So I look it up and sure enough they are from Northport.
Teenage Dirtbag is actually about the singers experience with stigma during the satanic panic, specifically following the Ricky Kasso murder in Northport. You’d get weird looks for wearing metal band T shirts.
Sunflower Bean
I didnt know theyre from LI
Warped weeble wobbles, Inside, Silent Majority, On the Might of Princes, Kill Your Idols, V.O.D, Insurgent
HEAVYHEX - new(ish) Long Island band signed to Bridge Nine Records. We interviewed them recently for the podcast. Awesome guys, great new debut LP ‘True To You’

Good old Beerys. Good old Phil
Lemon Twigs, Mr Twin Sister, Lou Reed was from Freeport so there’s that.
Oolong
My homie has since moved to New Jersey for work but grew up on LI. Check out his band Guesstimate
Long Island Rail Road and Arcy Drive
Peep >.>
The Bogmen, The Good Rats, The Alessi Brothers
Envy on the Coast!! 🥰
Zocial from levittown i believe.
Gene Casey and the Loansharks and Cassie House are my favorite local bands I try to catch when they’re playing nearby. Though usually I can’t make it
Lil peep is from Long Beach, rest his soul
Dog Park Dissidents
Queer anarcho-punk, frontman is an old friend of mine originally from LI.
I’ll be honest that I haven’t listened to their full catalogue still but “Class Struggle” and “Queer as in Fuck You” are both really solid jams.
This is a great band name
Chow Lee is from Hempstead
I am the avalanche and crime in stereo!
Overthrow
He’s not a Long Islander but James McMurtry has a cool song called Long Island Sound
Groove Temple is from LI and they're great
Billy Joel, Stray Cats, Bogmen, Wheatus.
If you're lookin' for a good mix check out Dinosaurs in Vietnam compilations on bandcamp.
Here are some Spotify links to active and inactive bands:
Wow I took so much time to link several bands, but only three are showing up. I guess there are link limits I am unaware of...
Not one mention of Eddie Money in this thread smh
Check out Pete Mancini and the hillside airmen
Twisted Sister , Good Rats , Blue Oyster Cult, Zebra ( I Know they are From New Orleans , But they came Here & Never Left & Honed their Craft on LI.) , Joe Satriani , The Ramones, Pat Benetar, Public Enemy , DeLa Soul , EPMD, The list Goes on & on
The artists from here pretty awful tbh
The Falco Brothers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY1aevcQKpg
Oso Oso from Long Beach
So, no Debbie Gibson then?
Purely Green is awesome. There instagram is purelygreenband if you wanna see where/when they perform next. I've been to a couple of their shows now and has always been a good time. These musicians definitely need more recognition for their work.
Brand New & Taking Back Sunday
As Tall as Lions
Blue Öyster Cult
MACHINE GIRL
Vision of Disorder
Neglect - best hardcore band from Long Island
Playing Dead
I don't think any of them are from LI.
If we’re talking about the same Playing Dead with lead vocals by Sam and bass player Dave, they are very much from Long Island. Source: I grew up with them.
Have a link to website or anything?
I was talking about Playing Dead from the New England area.
Edna’s Goldfish
There's this older guy named Willy or Billy something. Plays piano. I heard he's giving up local gigs and heading down south though. Someone told me he put out a couple records back in the day though. 😂
Thank you!
The loud horn- a Long Island masterpiece performed by the rosyln mom and her instrument the chevy suburban.
Up and coming kid named Billy something. Won’t shut up about a piano but his stuff isn’t so bad. From the oyster Bay Area.
i've really been enjoying this singer/songwriter from levittown. billy joel is the name. some really good songs.
Macseal ✨
I’m assuming you want contemporary artists? Because the list gets quite long depending on how far back you want to go.
