[Quevillon] According to a source, Chris Tanev will sign with the Leafs on Monday.
News / UpdateWas posted before we traded for his rights
Ah, makes sense
Canada Day, just like Tavares
Tanev will still likely field other offers on Monday
Probably enjoying the Canadian long weekend like all of us?
If you were going to sign a contract like that I’m sure you would take the time out of your weekend to sign the paperwork. Especially when you have most of the summer as free time
I don’t think they have to be in the same room to have an agreement or “sign.”
That goes along with my point that it being the long weekend really wouldn’t have much effect on the timeline for him signing a contract…
Gotcha…it read that he was enjoying his weekend and couldn’t sign a contract
Now tell me about Matt Roy
Uh, okay:
Matthew Alan Roy[1] (born March 1, 1995) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman. He is currently playing for the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected in the seventh round, 194th overall, by the Kings in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
On March 21, 2021, Roy signed a three-year, $9.45 million contract extension with the Kings.
😂😂 thanks lol
Leafs bro helping leafs bros. Got your back
Y not Alex Carriere
Why would we sign the younger better player when we can pay the same price for an old rapidly declining player with a contract that will age horribly?
perhaps the younger better player wants too much money or wants to go somewhere else? or perhaps we will sign both? we shall see...
I think most Americans would be more reluctant to sign in a Canadian market. I usually designate American born free agents as longshots.
Yeah they’d rather take a contract in Utah or Seattle or Columbus, you know, hockey meccas!!! 🤦♂️🤬
A lot of players would. Most of them just want to get paid and enjoy life. Seattle is a pretty nice city, never been to salt lake though.
Anything to get some more sick flow on this team.
I understand that this is probably Tanev wanting to come to Toronto and not Toronto reaching out to him first. But they weren’t technically allowed to talk to him (before they traded for his rights). I guess it gets weird when there’s so few agents for so many players.
6yrx4.25, front load/signing bonus for the first 4 years, pay most of the $$ then Robidas Islans the last 2 lol
You really think it will be that high? Dam wa hoping 3x7
Tanev at 34 should be licking his chops if he can get 21M. Works for the Leafs cause they have no problem putting him on LTIR when he slows down. Tanev gets his money, Leafs get their cap space.
He would be licking his chops even more if he gets 25.5 million.
I hate this. An old declining dman signed to term is definitely the missing piece for running back this core!
That's the rub, there is no missing piece for running back this core.
The second they decided to do that, they have given up on any chance next year. So really it is kind of irrelevant what they do from here on out
It’s relevant in the fact you’re committing term to an asset that is going to diminish quickly and throwing in the towel for the next 7 years.
It seems they acquired him to give that extra 8th year
Can’t. Wasn’t on the team prior to trade deadline.
couldn't they sign him to an extension after the first year on a "wink-wink" deal?
I guess theoretically they could sign him to a 1 year deal and then resign him next July…but that’s a risk on his part. Pretty sure he’d be happier with the 7 years at 3.5 or whatever it shakes out at.
They can't offer him an 8th year
1 missing reply
Why Monday? I get it for others, but we have his rights now
